Paul Nuttell is according to the poles is 10% ahead in the Stoke bi-election, so I thought I would look at some of his beliefs. I was astounded at how similar they are to Trumps.

1. Privatisation of the NHS - this has been taken from his website because he needs the votes. Privatisation of the NHS doesn't attract votes.

2. Wants a referendum to vote on restricting woman's rights. He is anti-abortion, and believes that there should be a ban on adverts for family planning and abortion.

3. Burka ban. In all public buildings.

4. Against banning discrimination against gays.

5. So he believes in placing restrictions on Muslim belief/culture, but is against any restriction to Christian beliefs.

6. Thinks sexist comment are OK, and against placing restrictions on these type of comments.

No wonder he was so thrilled when Trump won the election.

I haven't a clue which nationals are the most popular in Stoke, but the local newspaper, The Stoke Sentinel, is owned by Trinity Mirror, which also owns the Liverpool Echo. The Echo has been vocal about Hillsborough from the start and hasn't taken kindly to Paul Nuttall.

Do you think Nuttall has burnt his Liverpool pass? Can't imagine him going to Anfield any more.

The Stoke Sentinel, is owned by Trinity Mirror, which also owns the Liverpool Echo.

Trinity Mirror owns our local paper too and to be frank you can sense the political persuasion it conveys as The Miiror is pro Labour.

I guess politics is never far from the door whatever we read.

durhamjen Sun 19-Feb-17 14:08:27

Corbyn was in Stoke yesterday, giving a speech in Hanley, then going round door to door. Exactly as he did in the lead-up to Brexit.

Jalima Sun 19-Feb-17 14:35:04

Express and Star is an independent.

daphnedill Sun 19-Feb-17 15:12:47

You're right POGS. It isn't far away.

The other thing about these local papers is that they have good sports coverage. People in Stoke won't have missed the coverage of Hillsborough, so what Nuttall did was equivalent to walking round the Vatican City with a banner stating that the Pope isn't a Catholic.

daphnedill Sun 19-Feb-17 15:14:56

Hanley is a Labour stronghold, so he might have been better to concentrate his efforts in the more marginal areas.

And he's got competition from the even further far right. A 78 year old woman who is an independent candidate and has been arrested for the content of her publicity material.

JessM Sun 19-Feb-17 15:49:34

oops no, out of date. Gill no longer the leader in the part of Wales outside the doors of the Sennedd.

POGS Sun 19-Feb-17 16:08:38

You have to smile sometimes don't you.

Barbera Fielding was liked by some as she was The 'Magna Carter' candidate some would have voted for.

Good job it was said in jest, at least I think it was. confused

MawBroon Sun 19-Feb-17 16:13:00

Time to repeat the Tony Hancock joke?
Was it your predictive text which invented Magna Carter or were you being ironic?

POGS Sun 19-Feb-17 16:29:04

MawBroon

Are you talking to me????

I don't understand your post.

MawBroon Sun 19-Feb-17 18:41:48

Yes I was POGS I wondered whether you were being ironic when you referred to Magna Carter or whether prefictive text had "edited" it.
That was all confused

MawBroon Sun 19-Feb-17 18:46:01

And this is Tony Hancock in action. grin

rosesarered Sun 19-Feb-17 19:21:59

Wasn't Magna Carta the woman who won the Eurovision song contest the other year ( the Estonian one,) grin

POGS Sun 19-Feb-17 19:34:06

MawBroon

I still don't understand what you are trying to say to me re 'Magna Carter'

You are the one who first mentioned Barbera Fielding and her being the Magna Carter candidate on this thread.

I must be missing something?

MawBroon Sun 19-Feb-17 19:53:07

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magna_Carta

I can't believe you are missing the fact that you keep referring to Magna Carter hmm
I certainly didn't bring it up as such, it is Magna Carta which the silly woman wants to abolish.

Got it now?

MawBroon Sun 19-Feb-17 20:25:28

hmmhmm ???

POGS Sun 19-Feb-17 20:46:38

MawBroon

Nope, I do not follow you.

I know Barbera Fielding wants to abolish the Magna Carter!

I put a link up on Wednesday 15th to a debate held on BBC Sunday Politics for the West Midlands for anybody genuinely interested in the by-election.

Barbera Fielding is given a 30second slot where she she says :-

"I want to abolish the Magna Carter and bring back the monarchy".

I am not sure what you want to prove to be honest and please don't say to me 'again'. "FFS lighten up". I simply don't understand you at all.

POGS Sun 19-Feb-17 20:48:59

MawBroon Wed 15-Feb-17 09:01:19

"Independent candidate Barbara Fielding-Morriss (standing under the name Barbara Fielding)[21] is the registered leader of the party "Abolish Magna Carta, Reinstate Monarchy"[22] and is recorded as a vexatious litigant.[23]"

trisher Wed 15-Feb-17 10:04:46

"Oh I fancy The Monster Raving Looney (in memory of Screaming Lord Such), maybe with the "Abolish Magna Carta"party in second place"

MawBroon Wed 15-Feb-17 10:10:00

"Trisher grin there is perhaps a certain appeal in a "vexatious litigant"??"

Jalima Wed 15-Feb-17 11:20:06

" I'm all for the MRLP or Magna Carta woman myself but fortunately for Stoke I won't be voting."..

MawBroon Wed 15-Feb-17 11:29:26

"Yeah, jalima and trisher

Who needs Magna Carta anyway?

What did she ever do for us?"

As I said in my post it was said in jest ?

MawBroon Sun 19-Feb-17 21:04:55

"She's got it! I think she's got it!" grin

Oh good, you've realised that it is Magna Carta and not "Magna Carter " at last!
Phew!!
(At least I think you have. You can see the difference between Magna Carta (Latin) and "Carter" can't you?)

Ana Sun 19-Feb-17 21:06:34

Please leave it.

Can we get back to Paul Nutter Nuttall?

MawBroon Sun 19-Feb-17 21:08:27

He is irresistible isn't he?
Do we have a picture of his Moon landing?

durhamjen Sun 19-Feb-17 21:09:33

You do know that there are only three clauses left of the Magna Carta, and only one applies to the general public?
The other two are London and the Church.
