The Trump presidency

The last Trump thread has run out of space. I suspect we need a new one. As he steams through his first week issuing royal edicts on a range of things and asserting that he will build a wall, how will politicians in Washington react to his fascist agenda along with his apparently immature and decidedly dodgy personality?

We could stay in EU stop all this and work on improving our position there.
And exactly how do you suggest she could bring that about otiva?
or have you forgotten that there was a referendum and the result of that?

confused

People in Europe think UK is crazy, the £ is worth less than before the referendum, Lloyds of London, there since 1700's are leaving ! Sinking ship!
Well, quite a lot of them think we've done the right thing (I was surprised at that)
Not the EU powers-that-be, of course, it has came as a shock.

Sinking ship - wait and see as it isn't happening yet - and then it is usually the rats who rush to go otiva

Does HM always invite POTUS? How unpleasant for her.
That is why she is such a trooper and stalwart Elrel

And she usually has a very apposite greeting - such as when Martin McGuinness asked her how she was in an obsequious way and her reply: 'Well, I'm still alive'

I look forward to hearing what she has to say to Trump.

Do some posters not understand diplomacy? I am astonished.

handmade.. I think there is enough hatred in the world without electing it as leader of one of the world's most influential countries.

Jalima Sat 28-Jan-17 13:05:43

not referring to you Elrel!

MaizieD Sat 28-Jan-17 13:07:43

and then it is usually the rats who rush to go otiva

And it's the ones who can't get off who drown, Jalima

I can understand May taking early chance to see Trump, this country needs any friends it can get now, but did she have to be so syncophantic in her speech to the Republicans congratulating them on a "stunning victory" ? Definitely stunning for those who care about climate change, refugees, and Mexicans to name just a few.

Jalima Sat 28-Jan-17 13:23:15

Once the rats have fled we can plug the hole - there are many ways of plugging holes in ships.

durhamjen Sat 28-Jan-17 13:25:01

LJP1, wikileaks has asked anyone worried about their climate change work being deleted to send it to them for safety.

MaizieD Sat 28-Jan-17 13:25:54

You've been reading too much Patrick O'Brian, Jalima wink

Jalima Sat 28-Jan-17 13:28:08

Ah, never heard of him, but DH was an engineer officer .....
I know all about 'the golden rivet' wink

Roses I laughed at your comment on the superiority of US meat. I used to know an American who complained that the steak was so tough in other countries. And worked with Americans who could not grasp that steak was a luxury in the UK.
Then I looked up how they produce large quantities of cheap, flabby meat. They use "feed-lots" that prevent the cattle from moving much (which tends to lead to soft muscle) and then feed them with a high calorie diet along with various growth promoting chemicals, hormones and antibiotics. This makes them swell up like a body builder who is taking steroids.
They could not have such vast meat-producing units here because we don't have prairies and they would contaminate our rivers and coastal waters.

I think Theresa used the word 'stunning' quite well. It implied it was a shock and not necessarily a pleasant one. She could so easily have said wonderful or marvellous or any of a number of similar words. We laughed when we first heard her say that in her speech.
Poor woman. Now that Turkish despot! I bet she's furious with Cameron for landing her in this situation.

confused!

People might take you more seriously if you learnt how to spell the surname of the man who has been US president for eight years.
Boris could be president of the US, but Trump could not be PM here.

whitewave Sat 28-Jan-17 14:10:24

He must have thrilled a certain element on GN with his latest - Banning all refugees.

What a charmer.

whitewave Sat 28-Jan-17 14:13:11

Very selective in the list - clearly political expediency has overridden the threat of terrorism. Idiot!

Eloethan Sat 28-Jan-17 14:14:30

Using a word like "vermin" to describe people seems pretty hate-filled to me and perhaps might resonate with those similarly described who found themselves in concentration camps.

As for 9/11, the people responsible for that were almost all Saudi Arabians, and Trump is letting them in.

whitewave Sat 28-Jan-17 14:16:31

Exactly eloe

Rigby46 Sat 28-Jan-17 14:18:55

And 9/11 happened on Bush's watch not Obsma's

suzied Sat 28-Jan-17 14:20:31

9/11 wasn't on Obama's watch

Rigby46 Sat 28-Jan-17 14:20:58

hsnd yo are clearly not a woman otherwise you wouldn't put DT and the words 'human rights' in the same sentence

Rigby46 Sat 28-Jan-17 14:22:02

Jane I think you're right about the use of the word 'stunning'

Elegran Sat 28-Jan-17 14:22:15

And they flew in on hijacked planes, no-one let them in.
