The Trump presidency

The last Trump thread has run out of space. I suspect we need a new one. As he steams through his first week issuing royal edicts on a range of things and asserting that he will build a wall, how will politicians in Washington react to his fascist agenda along with his apparently immature and decidedly dodgy personality?

Ana Sat 28-Jan-17 14:24:08

I agree with you, too, Jane10 - the world was certainly stunned by Trump's election as US President!

whitewave Sat 28-Jan-17 14:29:40

Speechless would better describe it

Ana Sat 28-Jan-17 14:35:18

Well, May could hardly say that, could she...?

Diddy1 Sat 28-Jan-17 14:36:46

She must be treading on egg shells, cant go against this dictator too much or goodness knows what might happen, the things he has done in the week since his inauguration are diabolical. I feel heartfelt sorry for our Queen, when DT descends on her for the State visit, he certainly made sure he would be invited, and quick he was too!

I'd call off sick if I was Her Maj and let eldest son do the honours.

Rigby46 Sat 28-Jan-17 14:39:58

Elegran - absolutely not. Thy hijacked the planes in the USA and hadn't at least one of them learned to fly in the States?

I'm more worried about The Priminester going to Turkey than her meeting with President Trump

varian Sat 28-Jan-17 15:13:39

Quite, Sylvi I have already posted this article on the TM thread.

Wasn't one of the reasons some people voted Brexit because of the fear of Turkey joining the EU and the UK being forced to have all those extra EU citizens coming in?
They appear to be bypassing the EU.

Welshwife Sat 28-Jan-17 15:24:34

If he follows suite with what the other countries talking trade deals have asked for it will be free access for his people into the UK - if not free access plenty of visas for them!

Genuinely interested to know if anyone feels that Jeremy Corbyn would be better qualified/experienced to handle talks with either Trump or Erdogan? I personally feel that May is doing the best she can with a pretty poor hand of cards but I'd be interested in the views of others.

I cannot believe how left-wing and intolerant this GN forum is. If you were aware of how the majority thinks you would have not been surprised by the Leave vote (and the sooner the better in my opinion). Trump's election was obvious considering the Clintons" reputation - Hillary appeared untrustworthy and Bill DID what Donald only talked about. Marine Le Pen will be the next "surprise" winner. World order is changing.

etheltbags1 Sat 28-Jan-17 16:30:28

I'm not really into politics but the last few weeks have made good viewing, sky news has been on constantly in my house, nothing much on the other channels. Its better than watching a soap.

whitewave Sat 28-Jan-17 16:32:17

I think the whole year is going to make interesting viewing ethel

etheltbags1 Sat 28-Jan-17 16:33:23

I dont care about her politics, Thereresa is a strong leader and we need that today more than ever nowadays

Interesting piece from what appears to be a Canadian site:

White evangelicals have fallen in a love with a thrice-married adulterer and blasphemer

Donald Trump has just enacted some of the most draconian and oppressive visa, immigration, and refugee policies in US history. As well as being an affront to American values, it is also offensive to the Biblical values that many Republicans claim to take as their inspiration: the Bible, in both the Old and New Testaments, is drenched in calls for the foreigner and stranger to be welcomed. Yet at the very moment these orders were on the president’s desk, tens of thousands of Christians at Washington’s March for Life were cheering at every mention of the Trump government. His popularity among right-wing evangelicals and Catholics is reportedly higher than ever.

It’s difficult to recall now, but not so long ago Donald Trump was regarded by the Christian right as an enemy of the Almighty. And nobody knows who belongs on the Almighty’s naughty list as thoroughly as the Christian right. Trump supported abortion rights and same-sex marriage. He had been married three times, used profane language and seemed to have no problems whatsoever with the moral decay of God’s chosen United States of America

Sorry, ethelbags1. Strong leaders are no better than weak ones if they are leading in the wrong direction.

whitewave Sat 28-Jan-17 17:19:26

Good post maizie

Welshwife Sat 28-Jan-17 17:23:05

Many 'Christian' groups in USA think Trump was sent by God to sort everything out - they seem to think he is the chosen one! --- we have a family member who believes all this and posts links on Facebook - I do not comment !!

Jalima Sat 28-Jan-17 17:24:43

stunning
very clever use of the word grin

And they flew in on hijacked planes, no-one let them in.
I thought they lived and trained in the USA?

Jalima Sat 28-Jan-17 17:28:37

I see Rigby already posted that, sorry.

carol49cat you noticed

Speechless would better describe it
but Gransnetters were not speechless wink

I am sure HM will know how to deal with Mr T, he will be like quivering jelly in her hands.

whitewave Sat 28-Jan-17 17:28:40

The second coming grin

Does anyone know how he signs something and immediately it is implemented. Do the Senate not have to vote on anything. It does not seem like Democracy to me.
