The last Trump thread has run out of space. I suspect we need a new one. As he steams through his first week issuing royal edicts on a range of things and asserting that he will build a wall, how will politicians in Washington react to his fascist agenda along with his apparently immature and decidedly dodgy personality?

Anya Sun 29-Jan-17 09:35:24

WW apparently he doesn't want to meet Prince Charles because Charles will tell him exactly what he thinks about his attitude to the environment. At least there's someone who won't too afraid to speak out.

Chewbacca Sun 29-Jan-17 09:38:58

whitewave where did you see the news reports a permanent ban on Muslims born in a Muslim country please? Not seen that.

Chewbacca Sun 29-Jan-17 09:43:47

whitewave "On Friday, Trump signed the executive order, temporarily barring the citizens from seven countries with predominantly Muslim populations - Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen and Syria - from entering the US. " Source: www.rt.com/usa/375428-trump-aclu-muslim-ban-stay/

In the Observer and the Tory MP -name not on hand at the moment-on Andrew Marr.

He was born in Baghdad -as was his wife. Banned. He said he now knows what discrimination feels like.

whitewave Sun 29-Jan-17 09:45:35

He also by the way has British citizenship. Makes no difference.

Politics of division writ large.

All those who advised us to wait and see when so many of us were showing alarm at Trump announcements, have now hopefully understood why we were so worried. This is only week 1.

Wait and see is the politics of appeasement.

Anniebach Sun 29-Jan-17 09:50:47

He wants the horse drawn carriage down the Mall, he doesn't want to meet Charles , he wants to meet William and Harry, best William leaves Kate at home after Trump tweets about her sunbathing topless.

Best thry all stay away and Queenie has George and Charlotte to greet the idiot ,

Chewbacca Sun 29-Jan-17 09:51:44

But RT; NBC; USA Today; Fox News and CNN are all reporting that it's a 3 month temporary ban, I cannot find any reference to any country being permanently banned from USA by Trump or anyone else. confused

JessM Sun 29-Jan-17 09:52:13

Better get knitting our hats for the Trump visit then sisters!
Presume Mo Farah, Uk citizen and multiple Olympic champion would not be welcome to compete or train in the US. Daily Mail running a story.

His residence on Wiki is listed as Portland, Oregon where his trainer is based.

whitewave Sun 29-Jan-17 09:54:21

Yes I will definitely troop up to a London with my banner if his visit goes ahead.

Mine will concern climate change -what will yours be about?

whitewave Sun 29-Jan-17 09:56:57

Temporary or permanent for some, does it matter? The principle is the same.

Let's assume all countries of whatever faith placed a ban temporary or not on people of other faiths. Now see the ridiculousness of it.

It is discrimination pure and simple.

Politics of division.

whitewave Sun 29-Jan-17 10:02:54

The British MP has twin boys at university in America. He can't visit them.

Rigby46 Sun 29-Jan-17 10:12:41

Only temporary? Firstly you do realise don't you that those not being deported are looking at being detained for three months? In the US prison system surrounded by people many of whom will believe they are terrorists? But hey it's only 3 months detention for completely innocent people.

Elegran Sun 29-Jan-17 10:12:44

A US judge has issued a temporary halt to the deportation of visa holders or refugees stranded at airports following President Trump's executive order.

Anniebach Sun 29-Jan-17 10:13:05

The man needs a long spell in a psychiatric unit , regardless of the fsct! He won a stunning election victory .

May has changed her mind on the banning of people from the USA , now she disagrees .

Chewbacca Sun 29-Jan-17 10:16:12

whitewave "Temporary or permanent for some, does it matter? The principle is the same. " Eh? Did I just read that right? Of course it matters! Temporary, in this case, is 3 months. Temporary when Obama did it was 6 months. Permanent is, like, FOREVER! Bit of a difference, don't you think? I detest Trump; he terrifies me, but flinging half truths/lies as being fact does no one any favours. He IS causing division. He IS setting culture and creed against each other but let's keep to the facts shall we? Exaggerating the issue is EXACTLY What Trump is doing and we all know how we feel about that. hmm

Elegran Sun 29-Jan-17 10:20:13

It affects people whose route includes passing through New York too,
like this Glasgow vet flying to Costa Rica via New York..

Chewbacca Sun 29-Jan-17 10:20:42

rigby I have no argument with you there. 3 months, 2 months, 1 week, it's outrageous no matter how long it is. But if you'd read my post properly, you'd have seen that the point I was making was that Obama did the very same thing, 6 years ago, but for twice as long. There is/was nothing in my post to suggest that I was supporting Trump, simply that history has very quickly repeated itself.

Firecracker123 Sun 29-Jan-17 10:31:34

Chewbacca haven't you realised there's double standards on here. It's OK to condemn Trump but the saintly Obama you're got to be kidding.

durhamjen Sun 29-Jan-17 10:39:24

So you think what Trump has done is okay, do you, Firecracker?

Granny23 Sun 29-Jan-17 10:43:48

Your link not working Elegran Here is a copy aand paste job from my facebook today.

A UNIVERSITY of Glasgow vet has been blocked from coming back to Scotland after being caught up in President Donald Trump's ban on refugees entering the US.

It is understood Hamaseh Tayari, who majors in veterinary anaesthesia the university, was due to fly back to Glasgow on Saturday but was denied entry onto a flight because it went via New York and she would need a transit visa, which was revoked.

Tayari, who grew up in Italy, is a UK resident, and holds an Iranian passport said: “This has really shocked me. We just discovered [what Trump did] at the airport when we went to check in. I want people to know that this is not just happening to refugees."

She had been on holiday in Costa Rica with her boyfriend last week and both are now trying to find an alternative route back.

It is understood they have been looking at taking a flight to Madrid on January 30, but it will cost them £2,000 and then they would have to find their way back to Glasgow.

“We had been saving for months for this holiday and it will cost me a month’s salary just to get home,” said Ms Tayari, who has been studying towards her European Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia at the University of Glasgow's Small Animal Hospital “I am destroyed. I did not know that I could cry for so long. It feels like the beginning of the end. How this is possible? I am really afraid about what is going on.”

Women for Independence are considering raising money to help the couple get back to Scotland. - Have in fact now raised £3,500 in an hour.

rosesarered Sun 29-Jan-17 10:45:59

Chewbacca your post 10.16.12. Spot on!
We can do without half truths/ not telling the whole story/ exaggeration.

Chewbacca Sun 29-Jan-17 10:46:43

No one, as far as have seen, has said that what Trump has done is OK, durham. What has been pointed out is that this isn't the first time that such draconian action has been taken. Obama spoke, many times, of banning countries, predominantly Muslim countries, from entering the US. And he did that in 2011 and it barely made news headlines, never mind world wide castigation. If a discussion is to be had, it should be balanced and quoting facts, not conjecture. That's all.

durhamjen Sun 29-Jan-17 10:51:55

Did you also see the man in tears on the news as his brother was due in and not allowed to come to the US. He hadn't seen his brother for over twenty years.

Trump is an appalling man, and we do not need to do business with him.
Does anybody have anything to say about the fact that countries with which he has business deals are not affected?

Chewbacca Sun 29-Jan-17 11:03:20

Trump is a loose cannon and I'm not in the least bit surprised that his temporary ban won't impinge on countries that he has business links with. He's passing this temporary ban off as "protecting the American people" whilst ignoring that Saudi Arabia is also responsible for terrorist acts (but he has trade deals with SA). The man is arse.
