I occasionally drop in on the political threads. Just a quick look. Today I noted that there was a query of sorts saying that some of us regular uses never comment or join in the debate. I just wondered why? I know why I don't. Apart from the fact that I'm having a particularly difficult time dealing with family illness the reasons are.
1 the threads are far too long so I have difficulty keeping up
2 the posters seem so clever and politically acute that I don't feel I have enough knowledge.
3 I haven't got the time to check my facts so am reluctant to just express my feelings
4 the posters can be very robust if they don't agree with each other.
5 perhaps I'm a bit wimpish and can't take the backlash if I disagree with a post.
Maybe I'm a bit delicate. How do others feel?

Someone criticising the leader of their own party? Surely not .

But thinking of it , whoever you are referring to is being honest

GracesGranMK2 Sun 05-Feb-17 19:11:35

Well they are putting their own point of view. Honesty really doesn't come into it.

petra Sun 05-Feb-17 19:16:11

I think we can all work out to whom Gracesgran is referring to grin Is she bovvered, I don't think so, it's the truth.

Anniebach Sun 05-Feb-17 19:34:06

the decent and honest thing to do is to name the poster, some don't do honesty though, they do snide

Jalima Sun 05-Feb-17 19:34:40

Honesty is the best policy

better tell the politicians that one!

Anniebach Sun 05-Feb-17 19:38:31

Well some politicians, like the one who sat on the floor of a train and claimed there were no seats , next day change of story, there were not enough seats for a group to sit together

GracesGranMK2 Sun 05-Feb-17 19:52:40

It was a little gentle leg-pulling (there was a wink) that got taken far, far too seriously. Sadly that sort of sums up what happens on political threads.

petra Sun 05-Feb-17 19:53:52

And 'some' politicians run away from reporters claiming they're being bullied grin
What's not to criticise.

anniegold195 Sun 05-Feb-17 19:55:52

I agree with all your reasons. I cant help getting upset if somebody criticises me. I'm not a softy but maybe a whimp (wink)

Ana Sun 05-Feb-17 19:56:03

'Gentle leg-pulling' is certainly not what goes on on some of the political threads!

rosesarered Sun 05-Feb-17 19:58:51

More like violent leg pulling ( if not dismemberment)! grin

Anniebach Sun 05-Feb-17 20:01:22

I get it, silly me, digs the claws in then say - it was a joke , mmmmmmm , also seems to be problems with courage

Anniebach Sun 05-Feb-17 20:03:00

Your hassling me, where's the glass door for me to hide behind grin

GracesGranMK2 Sun 05-Feb-17 20:52:30

I have no idea what you are trying to say Annie; it makes no sense I'm afraid. I appreciate though, that we should not tease those who don't want to be teased.

Rinouchka Sun 05-Feb-17 20:53:21

On the Trump Presidency thread, I have just had an example of another poster making a sweeping judgement to belittle or demean another, namely me this time.

Some posters allow rhetoric to take over. Whilst I admire passion to a cause, I find sweeping stances objectionable, especially when unmerited.

Sorry but thought I should state this here!!

Rigby46 Sun 05-Feb-17 21:00:39

She means me - why not say so? We are having a debate about the meaning of 'wait and seeism' I don't know why you had to run away to another thread to have another winge- We have different interpretations of that as a strategy and given that DT is a clear and present danger to the world, it's not surprising is it that passions run high. We are hardly debating the merits of recipes for cheesecake. I do not understand at all what there is to wait and see about DT and what he'll do next - he's a monster, democratically elected or not.

Anniebach Sun 05-Feb-17 21:15:07

Gracesgran, you have had your few seconds of hiding your clawing behind the pretence of humour, didn't work.,now excuse me but there posts by intelligent and fair minded posters I want to read and perhaps discuss.

Rinouchka Sun 05-Feb-17 21:17:39

I am not having a whinge, just surprised that you should not bother to take the total of what a poster says and resort to sweeping rhetoric .

I agree with your stance, but not with your manner.
You will find that I have never posted about cheesecake...another cheap putdown.

Anya Sun 05-Feb-17 22:46:04

Not a put-down at all Rinouchka - I think it's clear that Rigby was drawing a very valid comparison between something trivial where a 'wait & see' policy is acceptable and something so serious that it is potentially Extremely Dangerous.

.

Jalima Sun 05-Feb-17 22:50:39

Your hassling me, where's the glass door for me to hide behind
I get it grin
You have to have a minder, though, with a bit wodge of papers

is it wodge?
not wadge pronounced wodge?

Anniebach Sun 05-Feb-17 23:10:56

smile. Seems thst was only my,opinion even thought it was shown on countless tv programmes

Jalima Sun 05-Feb-17 23:15:30

I'm surrounded by wodges of papers here, most of it rubbish that needs sorting, I could be your minder. We have a glass door somewhere too.

GracesGranMK2 Sun 05-Feb-17 23:17:50

What are you talking about Annie?

Jalima Sun 05-Feb-17 23:18:47

wink
it was a snip from a comedy programme I think GG

Ankers Mon 06-Feb-17 06:20:17

I think rosesarered should be commended for trying to make the news and politics board a much more civil place to post and be, for all.
