Well? ?

Anniebach Mon 20-Mar-17 19:55:18

Yes I know POGS, I said the very same in an earlier post. I listen to the select home affairs committee questioning thr chap from Google, Evette did a good job and then wrote a follow up letter which is why i said well done Evette. And yes it is my view so I will repeat it, well done Evette

I watched Daily Politics with Caroline Flint 'debating' with Momentum spokesperson Rachel Godfrey Wood the Tom Watson / Lansman / Unite scenario.

It was the same old, same old conversation that has been held since Momentum started. Talk about ' déjà vu '.

Anniebach Mon 20-Mar-17 21:09:38

Because the same old questions are asked to be fair, and it was bound to crop up today with Tom Watson doing the rounds.

rosesarered Mon 20-Mar-17 21:19:55

There wasn't much debate about it, mind you, as Flint could have run rings round the spokesperson on any subject ( was that the best that Momentum had to offer?)

Anniebach Mon 20-Mar-17 21:59:31

Sorry I missed it . I do wonder why some momentum staff are so amateur, their events organiser was recording at a Momrmtum training day, she said she didn't know what the definition of anti semetism was.

Anniebach Tue 21-Mar-17 08:17:48

Corbyn, not the brightest of politicians has lost the plot. His support group leader was recorded plotting to take over the party , war breaks out and crafty Corby does a - let us all work together , vomit time

petra Tue 21-Mar-17 08:35:30

It appears he had an 'away day' in London grin He'd probably get a nose bleed if he went outside the M25.

Anniebach Tue 21-Mar-17 08:38:04

That man is not a full packet of crisps, devious little worm

daphnedill Tue 21-Mar-17 09:15:49

To be fair, the definition of anti-Semiticism is quite hotly disputed. I believe the government issued an official definition a few months ago.

daphnedill Tue 21-Mar-17 09:19:20

Do you mean Jackie Walker annie?

daphnedill Tue 21-Mar-17 09:34:13

George Galloway has just announced that he's going to stand as a candidate in Gorton. He's a self-publicist, but he could split the Labour vote. It's the ninth safest Labour seat in the country.

Anniebach Tue 21-Mar-17 09:41:57

What a surprise, is he standing independent, Respect or Momemtum ? Poor Corbyn will hsve a problem campaigning against one if his closest friends

daphnedill Tue 21-Mar-17 09:47:57

Independent.

Anniebach Tue 21-Mar-17 09:50:07

Thank you Daphne, wonder what the plan is

daphnedill Tue 21-Mar-17 10:17:37

Plan? Do you think there is one?hmm

POGS Tue 21-Mar-17 10:22:37

The rumours were true then.

He might give Labour a run for their money but the Labour vote will hold.

I wonder how his close friendship of Corbyn will pan out.?

Given their shared history and principles will Labour set the attack dogs out or might they hold back.?

Will you see the Parliamentary Labour Party against Momentum divide occur. By that I mean the PLP MP's take on Galloway where as the Corbyn/Momentum faction prefer to give Galloway an easy ride. Why?. Because Galloway would be a good MP to back Corbyn in Parliament and Corbyn/Momentum just might think him of more use to their Party than a Labour MP.

I know that sounds strange but Corbyn/Momentum are not interested in being in government they appear more interested in protesting , something they excel at.

daphnedill Tue 21-Mar-17 10:23:16

This is Galloway's announcement:

“I want to continue [Gerald Kaufman’s] work on international issues – which are particularly important in Gorton – especially the issues of Palestine and Kashmir but also the broader questions, the dangerous confrontation between the west and the Muslim world which threatens all of us…

I opposed Tony Blair with all my heart and soul and paid for it with my expulsion from the party in 2003 – after 36 years membership. This week is the 14th anniversary of the Iraq War against which I was one of the leaders of the greatest mass movements ever seen in this country. I make this plain here – if I am re-elected to Parliament I will seek to put Mr. Blair on trial for war crimes, crimes against humanity and lying to the British Parliament and people…

Whether it’s my speeches in Parliament or on the streets, my films, my TV shows, my radio shows, my work on social media where I have over a million followers, when I’m fighting for Gorton everyone will know about it. Everyone will have to listen. I have been six times elected to Parliament and I don’t think even my worst enemy would deny my impact there…

It’s true I’m not local but then neither was Sir Matt Busby. Neither was Sir Alex Ferguson nor Pep Guardiola nor Jose Mourinho. Like them I want to work for you, for Gorton, for Manchester.

I am like Sir Matt a Scot of Irish background. There are plenty of us around Manchester. My 40 year relationship with Pakistan and Bangladesh my 40 years with the Arabs mean I can speak the language. I can talk the talk but I also walk the walk.

If I were to win here it would be the Mother of All by-election victories for “The hard working people of Gorton” who would never be forgotten again.”

What a wally! Somebody should tell him that the locals are just as likely to support Man City. grin

rosesarered Tue 21-Mar-17 10:28:22

Thinks a lot of himself hey?

Anniebach Tue 21-Mar-17 10:28:24

Corbyn-Momentum will not fight George, they will want him in the house, getting the militants back in has been Corbyns ambition since they were expelled . The trots are on the way

daphnedill Tue 21-Mar-17 10:30:36

POGS How do you know the Labour vote will hold? DD's on the ground and they're worried. Labour hasn't even selected a candidate yet and the LDs have already started canvassing. Historically, the LDs have done well and the drop in 2015 was mainly because of the student fees fiasco, but there's a new cohort of students now. About a third of the constituency are students and another third Asian Muslims. It voted 62% Remain.

Labour had a huge majority in 2015 (about 28,000), but so did Zac Goldsmith. I think the LDs will give Labour a serious run for their money, even if they don't win.

There's already infighting in the Gorton CLP and a lot of people have had their noses put out of joint. I don't think Labour will give Galloway an easy ride.

Anniebach Tue 21-Mar-17 10:33:31

He sees himself as Sir Mat, change from a pussy cat .

So he is going to fight on an anti Blair ticket, think I will throw my tv out, sick of Nicola S on the news every day, and now we will have George Trots mouthing off.

daphnedill Tue 21-Mar-17 10:33:37

I'll ask DD for the latest reaction. Nobody's told her not to fight AFAIK. Galloway won't win. It's more likely that the LD will sneak in through the back door.

Anniebach Tue 21-Mar-17 10:35:15

Daphne, labour may not give him an easy ride but Corbyn-Momentum will.

daphnedill Tue 21-Mar-17 10:38:28

But...at least half the locals support Man City, not Man U. They're more likely to throw stones at a Matt Busby wannabe than vote for him.

Latest betting odds:

Lab 1/6 (longer than yesterday)
LD 5/1 (shorter)
Galloway 16/1 (shorter)

How exciting!

daphnedill Tue 21-Mar-17 10:41:54

I don't know what you mean, annie. Momentum's membership has fallen. It's likely that a Corbyn supporter (can't remember his name) will be selected. I'll ask DD, but I don't think Momentum and Labour are working separately. The local CLP was suspended some months ago as a result of the infighting. If Labour loses, it will be a Corbyn protege's loss.
