grammargran This is giving me a will to live. We're part of history, folks. Future generations will learn about all this.It's a defining time in British history, just as the Great Reform Act was.

Whenever I learn anything historical, I always ask myself how the ordinary people felt and what they thought. Well, we're ahead of the game. We know what people think and how they feel and, if we have our eyes open, we can see the reasons and how history is manipulated.

Mentioned on the Daily Politics that Osborne hasn't quite got the hang of journalism yet as he missed his own deadline.

He should have had insider knowledge to report about his resignation. It could have been a real coup.

Theresa May said said the thing that unites "Corbyn, Farron and Sturgeon" is "they want to unite together to divide our country and we will not let them do it".

Errmmm! Strange logic! If the rest want to unite, doesn't that mean that the Conservatives are the outsiders?

Osbourne will stand down

Tim Farron challenged Theresa May to debate on TV. Unlike Corbyn, the Liberal Democrats have never shied away from debating.

If she is so keen to silence all dissenting voices, avoiding debate may not be the best way to do it.

At one GE here we had a local hustings. The hall was packed with supporters of all parties and other voters. There was a slight delay in starting then the candidates - LibDem, Labour, UKIP and another arrived on the platform - but no Conservative candidate. Everyone was puzzled about her absense and at the end someone asked the chairman why she wasn't there to be told she was too busy "knocking on doors". The Tory supporters were visibly embarrassed. At that time the seat was a Con/LibDem marginal. Our Liberal Democrat candidate, who was by far the best speaker, won with an increased majority.

It's OK daphnedill, it's just PMQs making me feel like that! Theresa does fight dirty though, reminding each Labour MP when they come up with a loaded question, exactly what derogatory opinion they have expressed publicly about their leader. She's got some good researchers.

The same thing happened in my constituency before the last GE. Unfortunately, the Cons still won.

Good point daphndedill about the Conservatives being the outsiders. There's a sweet irony in her statement there!

But the Labour leader's theme was that the Tories stand for broken promises, she said.

She said on one side Mrs May will do everything she can to make the election about Mr Corbyn's leadership - while Mr Corbyn will make the campaign about the Conservatives' record.

Pity Corbyn has to depend on notes, reading them takes away fire , too rehearsed

I wonder what would happen if May lost her seat as she was a remainer in a remain seat but is now pursuing a hard Brexit?

Just cant be doing with it all anymore

Lot of people like you corncob especially as we were promised no snap election.

This is another referendum. The trouble is that she cannot make the assumption that if she gets the vote that she can have a free hand re Brexit, because the majority of people almost certainly won't vote Tory. Indeed although they have been in government for the past long awful 7 years the vote was only luke warm.

The first 5 years, apart from squashing the poor and underprivileged and helping the wealthy younwould be hard pushed to point out to the successes. This last year we've been told ad nauseum that Brexit means Brexit and Grammer schools being threatened but nothing else.

When I first heard that an important announcement was imminent I wondered what it could be - now I know. Oh no, not another bloody election!
Blimey, I've had enough of them. At least it's only about six weeks though I am sure it will just feeeeeeeeeel longer.

Oh dear. Osborne is only stepping down for now, but still going to concentrate on the Northern Powerhouse.
Why? Something to do with his split personality, I think.

Her old man was writing this weekend - probably paving a little path for her! He made the interesting point that taking a little dissenter off the back benches and promoting him beyond his mental capacity was madness. He has a point.
