May is to make an important announcement at 11.15

Beammeupscottie Wed 19-Apr-17 14:48:44

Why would I not vote?

Anniebach Wed 19-Apr-17 14:56:24

Yes Beam, he was right. Cooper has experience, is a fighter, and has class, sadly the leader has none of these

Beammeupscottie Wed 19-Apr-17 15:00:47

At least he hasn't turned the baseball cap back to front yet; that would be really tacky.

durhamjen Wed 19-Apr-17 15:05:19

Theresa May - "Every vote for the Conservatives will make me stronger ".
Did it make anyone else think of the Incredible Hulk?

GracesGranMK2 Wed 19-Apr-17 15:18:23

Why would anyone want to vote for a so called 'good leader' who is going to put in action policies they don't believe in. Surely leaders come in many shapes and sizes (politically) and do not have to be headmistressish, lady of the manor, squireish, or Downton look alike in this day and age; the issue is the policies surely.

Anniebach Wed 19-Apr-17 15:19:10

Don't Beam, it could happen grin

durhamjen Wed 19-Apr-17 15:22:10

Agreed, Gracesgran.

Scotland now saying they have a mandate for a second referendum. May saying now is not the time has gone by the board now.

Anniebach Wed 19-Apr-17 15:27:09

Labour MP's will be re selected , good decision, bad luck for the corbynites who wanted de selection

Sadly Iaian Wright is standing down, a loss for the party

GracesGranMK2 Wed 19-Apr-17 15:32:37

If May doesn't do well she will be gone, just as the other parties leader's if they don't Jen. I could see another referendum in Scotland but hope they would wait to see if what is on offer is what they want.

whitewave Wed 19-Apr-17 15:38:23

Osborne has quit because he wants to use his post as editor to fire broadsides st May. He could hardly do that as a member of her government.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 19-Apr-17 15:43:35

I am no Osborne fan but staying on when they had such a small majority was all he could do. I imagine this will have him feeling very cheerful and, as you say ww, if the Conservatives get back in he can attack those who made his and DC's life difficult.

Ana Wed 19-Apr-17 15:44:08

Quite, Beammeup - I don't think it's the likes of us who need instructing to exercise our vote, BRedhead59 hmm

rosesarered Wed 19-Apr-17 15:47:30

I would have thought that any of us on the politics threads if not all of GN will be voting. The older the more likely to vote.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 19-Apr-17 15:50:31

Click, click, click. There go those needles again.

Jalima1108 Wed 19-Apr-17 15:52:41

Oh! Is the guillotine about to fall on someone? shock
k1 p1 k1 p1

GracesGranMK2 Wed 19-Apr-17 15:57:02

I thought BRedhead59 was the chosen one. All that umbrage being taken grin

GracesGranMK2 Wed 19-Apr-17 15:59:37

Am I right in thinking that when the various manifestos are produced they will be checked out for how they would work economically by various independent bodies?

rosesarered Wed 19-Apr-17 16:01:51

Haha! Jalima grin
More stirring GGM2

Ana Wed 19-Apr-17 16:02:37

I keep telling you I can't knit, GracesGranMark2 - sigh...

durhamjen Wed 19-Apr-17 16:17:57

Paul Mason's ideas. Good ideas in my opinion, but it won't happen.

" 1/ If Theresa May calls an election today, a progressive alliance can beat the Tory hard Brexit plan. Here’s how…

2/ We set up an independent website to show how tactical voting can beat the Tories and grassroots cross party alliance promotes this

3/ Labour has to guarantee Scotland a) right to remain in Single Market b) second referendum

4/ Labour should offer today Caroline Lucas to be in shadow cabinet, form Green/Red alliance, stand down 1x further candidate for Greens

5/ Libdems need to decide: with the progressive forces of Britain or in a perpetual flip flop with the Tories. You have 15 minutes.

If a progressive alliance won they could push through a PR bill in a matter of days and then hold fresh elections under a STV (or whatever) voting system. My guess is that this will be blocked by boneheads (on left and right) in the Labour party, which is a shame, because given that the Tories are likely to be polling only at about 40% in the election, a progressive alliance could win. It’s as simple as that. "

If May gets a bigger number of MPs, she will then change the boundaries as soon as possible.

Anniebach Wed 19-Apr-17 16:19:05

What on earth has knitting to do with a general election ?

grannypiper Wed 19-Apr-17 16:25:54

Daphnedill A lot of Scottish voters will break the habit of a lifetime and vote Tory just to send a message to Sturgeon that we are fed up with her rabble rousing ( and her face painted on the side of her helicopter)

Anniebach Wed 19-Apr-17 16:32:11

Has she realy got her face painted on a helicopter grannyP?

GracesGranMK2 Wed 19-Apr-17 16:32:28

It sounds like a good idea Jen but people who like to argue their own point would have to agree.

Blinko Wed 19-Apr-17 16:34:19

19 pages in 2 days. Lord knows how many -yards of hot air- will be clocked up in the next seven weeks. Heaven help those of us with some kind of a life that doesn't revolve around the Westminster village....
