May is to make an important announcement at 11.15

durhamjen Tue 18-Apr-17 11:42:20

What do you think will happen about the Tory election fraud of 2015?
The police are still looking into it.
Hopefully May's Tory advisers will be more careful this time, and do everything by the book.

I think it will be watch and wait Jen. Talk about 'events dear boy, events' This could galvanise all flavours or politics or even an anti-conservative, anti-hard Brexit group working together.

JC just said he welcomes the Prime Minister's decision.

So will it be another referendum under an assumed tiele? If so I wonder if the young will turn out and vote this time?

whitewave Tue 18-Apr-17 11:43:26

Title!

POGS Tue 18-Apr-17 11:43:56

Deflection!

durhamjen Tue 18-Apr-17 11:44:31

My grandson will be very disappointed. He was hoping to be able to vote in the next election.

daphnedill Tue 18-Apr-17 11:44:56

No, it won't dj. The Conservatives have an absolute majority in this constituency. Only the LibDems could beat them and they're in disarray. We might get a new MP though. The local party tried to kick ours out before the last election. He's 80 and, frankly, doesn't do a lot. The trouble is I know who the replacement candidate would be and he's worse!

durhamjen Tue 18-Apr-17 11:46:14

Deflection? Theresa May deflecting from the police fraud enquiry?
You could be right.
Off to hang my washing out now the excitement's over.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 18-Apr-17 11:46:15

Interesting point about the young ww.

daphnedill Tue 18-Apr-17 11:46:56

I'll make sure mine are registered Ww. Both have moved since the referendum. I'm fairly sure DD is, but not sure about DS.

Abonet Tue 18-Apr-17 11:48:45

I think she should have carried on without calling an election.
But she will know stuff that we dont know.

I am not sure if she is calling it to try and shut some people up, but it wont work in my opinion.
The social landscape seems to have changed in that people carry on complaining regardless of any vote.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 18-Apr-17 11:54:52

It will be interesting to see how many Labour MPs will vote against this tomorrow. The Labour Party will now show itself either as a spent force when it comes to representing the left or come together to save themselves. That, in itself, should be interesting.

We may find there are groupings we haven't yet anticipated asking for our votes.

POGS Tue 18-Apr-17 12:01:13

Durhamjen

Very funny.

Maybe you will do as you advocated on Monday and vote for 'New Europeans' in the local elections but on Tuesday vote Labour in the General Election..

I think the Lib Dems could do well by the way.

daphnedill Tue 18-Apr-17 12:01:34

Both say they're registered. DS lives in a Remain/LibDem constituency. DD is moving to a Remain constituency next weekend, which had a LibDem MP until 2015 and says she'll make sure she gets registered. Both are going to vote LibDem (even daughter) and have promised me they'll get all their friends to vote LibDem...wink

Apparently 70% of Labour voters voted Remain, so they're going to have to make a tough decision. At least Arron Banks won't have time to get his Patriotic Alliance together to fight all the "bad MPs".

Abonet Tue 18-Apr-17 12:02:36

7 weeks isnt much time for politians to make new groups I wouldnt have thought.

suzied Tue 18-Apr-17 12:04:18

Will they bring the big red bus out again, may have to repainted the slogans.

Ella123 Tue 18-Apr-17 12:04:42

Sorry to butt in but i have a v + box from virgin and it has broken they are giving me a tivo box ate they any good thanks for answers

Abonet Tue 18-Apr-17 12:05:32

Lib Dems doing well still isnt likely to amount to much. Even in their more recent hey day they didnt really break through a ceiling so to speak.

daphnedill Tue 18-Apr-17 12:05:53

Gg Corbyn welcomes it, because he has his hard hat. wink

durhamjen Tue 18-Apr-17 12:07:05

Exactly, daphne. Labour are going to have a tough decision.
It depends on whether they want to stay in the EU or not.
Britain does not have to leave the EU. There can be turning back.
May is going for a hard Brexit, and only 37% of the voting population voted for that.
Why is May going for a hard Brexit?
Not many people want that as far as I can see. I don't know why she wants it.

She's such a liar. Everything she is saying is a lie. I think she really does want out.

daphnedill Tue 18-Apr-17 12:07:37

When are the boundary changes coming into effect?

Abonet Tue 18-Apr-17 12:11:05

Want out of her job?

I dont know why May is going for hard Brexit either. Maybe she isnt really, so when it is a softer one, most people will do a sigh of relief?

durhamjen Tue 18-Apr-17 12:12:38

Not yet, I hope.
My MP said she was leaving at the next election, so we have to choose a new candidate now.
If the boundaries change, there will be one MP for the whole of the dales, including part of Northumberland! Ridiculous, geographically.

suzied Tue 18-Apr-17 12:16:10

She thinks offering a hard Brexit will neutralise UKIP. ( will N Farage stand?)It's becoming clear that it's unlikely she will achieve any massive decline in immigration without an equally massive decline in living standards, so when she dishes up an expensive dogs breakfast / Brexit, she can say she had the mandate.

Devorgilla Tue 18-Apr-17 12:17:21

DD this election will be fought on the old boundaries.
