Voting quandry

I'm a life-long Labour voter but cannot bear to suppprt Corbyn in the forthcoming election. The party will remain a shambles until it is under proper leadership and he seems to have totally lost the plot. I will not vote Conservative for many reasons and I feel betrayed by Theresa May's u-turn on Brexit, u-turn on not calling an election...there is no trust.

I will not abstain - the vote is a privilege. But for the first time I am seriously at a loss. There is no credible opposition. Locally there are no viable candidates that I feel I can endorse in order to make a point. I need to put my X in the box and it's the first time ever I've thought they are all as bad as each other.

If you have a good strong opposition and Leader then they give as good as they get at PMQ's.It has never been something that Corbyn has been happy with, the cut and thrust of PMQ's, he likes a debating style where he holds the floor without interruption or a meeting.Another reason for Labour to get a new Leader as soon as possible! When anyone else has stood in for him at PMQ's they have always improved things.

daphnedill Thu 27-Apr-17 08:29:59

I suppose it depends on one's perspective.

I didn't watch PMQs, but the reviews I've read said that May was evasive, attacked Corbyn personally in an attempt to humilate him and just about every Conservative managed to mention "strong and stable" (they've obviously been to CCHQ for an update of their hard drives).

Lynton Crosby's doing a good job.

Did any of you watch Prime Ministers Questions yesterday, Theresa May wiped the floor with Corbyn no comparison between the two and Tim Farron and his sidekick Sarah Olney looked crestfallen after she had finished with him.

Is that behaviour really what you admire and believe we need from those representing us ninny?

whitewave Thu 27-Apr-17 08:17:24

She's not worried as long as her mantra trust and strength and chaos is heard. They treat the electoric like thick idiots.

yggdrasil Thu 27-Apr-17 08:07:48

I wouldn't say she 'wiped the floor' with anyone. She just repeated she was the only strong one and Labour would cause chaos. Not exactly a reasoned argument! And certainly no attempt to answer any questions. All she said was the Conservatives had spent all the money required on the NHS etc, which is so clearly a lie. But you aren't allowed to use that word in Parliament

I long for "Spitting Images".

daphnedill Thu 27-Apr-17 06:51:24

I have a dystopian vision of the country, but not sure I can put it into words. I don't think it's going to be very pleasant.

Anya Thu 27-Apr-17 06:42:28

Wonder how the country will look 'after she had finished' with it in 5 years time?

Anya Thu 27-Apr-17 06:41:17

She's been told to pepper her speeches with the word 'strong' so that it will be absorbed subliminally. It was used by her 38 times according to the BBC news during QT.

Anya Thu 27-Apr-17 06:38:57

She's certainly got that sneer mastered. Not a good look.

Why take any notice of any gutter press, right wing or left wing?

Champagne is lovely ( when you can get it.) ?

whitewave Wed 26-Apr-17 20:04:02

Puff to the gutter press - they only exist for a certain type of reader.

whitewave Wed 26-Apr-17 20:02:57

I am a social democrat * varian* so can live with any party that is willing to live by those ideals.

varian Wed 26-Apr-17 20:01:02

whitewave you are not the only voter who has a strong belief in fairness and equal opportunities and yet is prepared to admit to being middle class. People like us are denigrated by the right wing gutter press as being "champagne socialists".

I am not a socialist. I am a Liberal Democrat but I think we share many of the same values. Although it is only a rare treat, I do quite like a glass of champagne (we had some for our golden wedding party) and I'm not going to apologise for that

whitewave Wed 26-Apr-17 18:31:08

smile

Fitzy54 Wed 26-Apr-17 18:27:40

WW I wouldn't argue with anything you say, other than the implication that a left of centre party is the most likely to provide those things. It depends on a lot of things other than a list of expensive promises. The obvious example would be Venezuela, a govt. which Corbyn praised greatly. I'm not saying he would repeat that praise now but a red in tooth and claw socialist govt. can truly result in disaster. My concern is that, while Corbyn is no Madura, he is too close in policies for my liking. But as you say, let's wait for the detail.

Ana Wed 26-Apr-17 18:18:18

I agree that we should be waiting for the costed manifestos for Labour AND all the other parties.

whitewave Wed 26-Apr-17 18:12:29

fitz I think before any judgement is made we need to look at the costed manifesto with regard to Labour.

As far as the next Tory government, I've just come off the phone from my son who has been out of the country and we were discussing the possible Tory landslide. We are a family, who on paper are natural Tory supporters, we are what would be described as firmly Middle class , all earning considerably more than the average salary.,and we were discussing the reason that we will always vote for a left of centre political party. It boils down we decided to ethics. We prefer to live a society that is civilised by recognising that there will always be those who are underprivileged or in low paid work who should be entitled to the same education, health free at the point of use and opportunity as everyone else. A society where everyone has a stake by paying the correct amount of tax. And where privilege neither buys you a job nor a better education. Fairness should be the key motto. Nothing this government nor any Tory government does provides those qualities.

Fitzy54 Wed 26-Apr-17 16:35:37

WW after a day at work I ca respond to yours to me from earlier. I'm sure you will be glad to move on from this other stuff! My concern as always is that Labour will truly ruinous financially and after that all good intentions will be truly meaningless, and goodness knows what sort of govt. will follow that. Nor do I really agree with your thoughts on a new Tory govt.

whitewave Wed 26-Apr-17 15:40:19

Shall I wear sack cloth and ashes whilst crawling for forgiveness?

Anniebach Wed 26-Apr-17 15:38:28

Not what I want you to say, I wish it had been what you wanted to say Whitewave,

whitewave Wed 26-Apr-17 15:35:52

i thought you had decided it was water under the bridge ana

whitewave Wed 26-Apr-17 15:30:58

OK she wasn't banned!!! If that is what you want me say. This is the silliest conversation.
