The Conservative Party was set up to conserve - to conserve the traditions and practices of a powerful and privileged group of people and to protect their wealth.

The Labour Party was set up to represent working people who had very little say as to what pay they received or how many hours they worked - because they had very little in the way of property or assets to sustain them if they chose not to co-operate.

The lines between the parties have sometimes become blurred. The left has often yielded to the demands of the powerful, but at least the Labour Party has attempted to raise the standard of living of ordinary people, whereas the Conservative Party has continued to oppose almost all measures that have introduced a measure of fairness within the work place and society in general.

YesI did & I still believe that, I also believe that each party genuinely believes what they are saying & I also believe that parties have to adapt their policies to fit the background & circumstances of each election.

I do not think as you do in a single minded way , there are many many things wrong unfair & unequal in this world sadly no one party , ruler , hierarchy Etc who can alter it greatly . The choice is voting for which ever party you believe will approach the problems with the best solutions. I do not think Jeremy Corbyn can deliver everything on his very attractive wish list, if it was that easy it would have already been done, Labour had 3 consecutive elections in power what did they achieve?

Someone on another forum I go on who seems very clued up has said Labour are going to lose the whole of the Midlands. I really don't know which way this is going; nothing really makes much sense to me at the moment. The very people that need a Labour government seem to be the ones that are turning to the Conservatives [via UKIP].Social historians, in years to come, are going to have a field day when they study this period of time.

Nothing single minded about the way I think. In fact socialists are not single minded at all, as you would know if you'd ever really supported socialism, instead of pretending to.

I think there's less interest in achieving a fairer society. It's more individualistic - the post war consensus was finally buried by Thatcherism. I was listening to a phone in once that to me encapsulated the shift. A woman rang and said that it wasn't fair that public sector workers received decent pensions when she didn't. What she wanted was for others to have their pensions taken away, not to improve things for people like her who weren't as well served - the 'race to the bottom' position and the pitting of one group agsinst another whilst the really rich and powerful run all the way to their ( offshore) bank

You don't get that I have looked at all the issues, and decided who will provide the best solutions as I see them for the country as a whole.
So how is that any different to the way you think, norose?

I have spent all day looking at three charts giving all the different positions from all manifestos from all parties, and decided who to vote for tomorrow.

I was talking about just that yesterday with two Danish teenagers, who were telling me that people there will pay higher taxes because they know that if they need help they will get it without having to beg for it.
That's what I want for our society, a society where nobody has to beg or go to foodbanks.
