Me too Maizie. The USSR went to far to the left. North Korea is too far to the left. Sweden, Norway and Finland are not and neither is Canada and Corbyn is not suggesting anything as 'left' as these social-democratic countries have decided is a good and happy way to run their countries.

I've lived in Canada and it was 'too far left' for me.

My property tax (Council tax) was $8,000 a year.
School toilets were used by drug addicts. (Classified as a public building as paid for from taxation)
Aggressive begging - literally grabbing my daughter who was then 8 and demanding money.

I could write a massive list. Great for a holiday though!

Also no idea about the significance of the amount of the property tax - no one tax tells you about the overall taxation system in a country and whether that makes it left or right

Perhaps you could explain what you mean by Canada is not too far left and how Corbyn is less left than that. A bit of clarity on 'good and happy' might help too.

It's many, many years since I visited Canada (late 1980s) but when I went all I seemed to meet were Brits who had fled there to avoid living in the dreadful Lefty place that the UK had become.

Eloethan I thought your long post on the EU a good one, and the first I have seen having reservations about it ( from somebody who voted to Remain.)
The reservations you mentioned added to my own feelings of wanting to leave the EU.
Probably 95% of the posters on this thread are Remainers, but most seem to have accepted the message that we are leaving and from reading the posts, have accepted that Corbyn is just as committed to leaving as May.

Since governments change every few years, it would depend on when Primrose lived in Canada as to the prevailing shade of politics.

As for the idea that living in a country means you know it well and that you are best placed to tell us about it? I think the reliability and validity of her views on Canade would depend on a great deal more than when she lived in Canada.

If I want a knowledgeable perspective on a country ( sorry Gransnetters) I do not look on here for it.
If a poster on here has lived in a country and makes a few comments on the time they lived there, I do not 'take them to task' on it because I do not like what they are saying.
We can give our opinions on here, but even if we quote chapter and verse and name sources as if we were taking an Oxford degree, we could still differ from another person that has lived in the same country.
I suspect that if the same poster had said she found Canada to be right wing then she may have had nods of agreement, or no comments or insults aimed at her at
all.Just a thought.

I'm quite happy to, and capable of, explaining any comment I make - and I have done it several times. But no one else seems to be interested in themselves doing that. I'm unclear why it's one special rule for me. I'm not special. I'm not different.

Political debate isn't trying to pick holes in a sentence in my books, calling opinions stupid or ignorant. We all have different life experiences that have shaped us.

Who made you the judge of the reliability and validity of my opinions? Rigby I thought we're all equal. Are we?
