Former leadership rival Owen Smith appointed to Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary in Jeremy Corbyn’s reshuffle

Announcing the changes to his Shadow Cabinet, Mr Corbyn said: “I am delighted to announce four appointments to fill shadow cabinet vacancies. I look forward to working with the strengthened shadow cabinet as we prepare a government in waiting to carry out our manifesto for the many not the few.

Me too Maizie. The USSR went to far to the left. North Korea is too far to the left. Sweden, Norway and Finland are not and neither is Canada and Corbyn is not suggesting anything as 'left' as these social-democratic countries have decided is a good and happy way to run their countries.

You're right Maizie. People have been brainwashed and then hung those brains out to dry.

There is a video in the Daily Express ( filmed in 1996) of Corbyn blasting the eu.
I would love Barnier to see it. I wonder when he had his conversion as did Paul on the road to Damascus.

Rigby46 Fri 14-Jul-17 19:31:55

There's much more recent videos of TM praising the EU and giving lots of reasons why we shouldn't leave

Primrose65 Fri 14-Jul-17 22:38:50

I've lived in Canada and it was 'too far left' for me.

My property tax (Council tax) was $8,000 a year.
School toilets were used by drug addicts. (Classified as a public building as paid for from taxation)
Aggressive begging - literally grabbing my daughter who was then 8 and demanding money.

I could write a massive list. Great for a holiday though!

Rigby46 Fri 14-Jul-17 23:21:41

How is aggressive begging left wing?confused

GracesGranMK2 Fri 14-Jul-17 23:55:33

Or public loos Rigby. It is really amazing what people will do to persuade themselves their views are right.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 14-Jul-17 23:56:13

Right as in correct of course, but in this case as in political stance fairly obviously.

Rigby46 Sat 15-Jul-17 00:18:28

Also no idea about the significance of the amount of the property tax - no one tax tells you about the overall taxation system in a country and whether that makes it left or right

Primrose65 Sat 15-Jul-17 07:55:56

and neither is Canada and Corbyn is not suggesting anything as 'left' as these social-democratic countries have decided is a good and happy way to run their countries

Perhaps you could explain what you mean by Canada is not too far left and how Corbyn is less left than that. A bit of clarity on 'good and happy' might help too.

Then I can express my opinions within the context you anticipate.

whitewave Sat 15-Jul-17 08:03:47

Canada is all sorts of things but left wing it ain't

GracesGranMK2 Sat 15-Jul-17 08:51:13

No Primrose. I am sure your whatiferey will become legendary but I have decided, purely on a personal basis, to ignore it.

GracesGranMK2 Sat 15-Jul-17 08:52:05

Actually it's more like gfery or whatever that word was.

MaizieD Sat 15-Jul-17 09:13:30

It's many, many years since I visited Canada (late 1980s) but when I went all I seemed to meet were Brits who had fled there to avoid living in the dreadful Lefty place that the UK had become.

What were you there for, Primrose?

rosesarered Sat 15-Jul-17 09:23:25

Simply hurling insults at Primrose ( although your preferred method GGM2)
Instead of asking her a question or debating the subject, is just childish.
Since Primrose knows Canada well I would think she is the best one on here to tell us about it.
Eloethan I thought your long post on the EU a good one, and the first I have seen having reservations about it ( from somebody who voted to Remain.)
The reservations you mentioned added to my own feelings of wanting to leave the EU.
Probably 95% of the posters on this thread are Remainers, but most seem to have accepted the message that we are leaving and from reading the posts, have accepted that Corbyn is just as committed to leaving as May.

rosesarered Sat 15-Jul-17 09:28:24

Since governments change every few years, it would depend on when Primrose lived in Canada as to the prevailing shade of politics.

Rigby46 Sat 15-Jul-17 09:31:05

Hurling insults at Primrose ? Over dramatic - much. I did ask her a question about what was left wing about aggressive begging and got no response. As for the idea that living in a country means you know it well and that you are best placed to tell us about it? How absolutely ridiculous - look st all the stupid, ignorant comments about the UK all over social media from people who live here.

Rigby46 Sat 15-Jul-17 09:33:04

I think the reliability and validity of her views on Canade would depend on a great deal more than when she lived in Canada.

rosesarered Sat 15-Jul-17 09:33:48

I wasn't talking about your posts Rigby but the unwarranted posts from GGM2

rosesarered Sat 15-Jul-17 09:36:21

All that anybody can do is to give their own perspectives on a country they have lived in Rigby...... including you and me.

Rigby46 Sat 15-Jul-17 09:39:27

Yes and that's all it is - a very very limited perspective - I'm learning nothing about Canada from her posts - I still want to know how aggressive begging is left wing.

whitewave Sat 15-Jul-17 09:41:35

No rose what you mean is that is all you can do if you are content with sound bites and opinion.

But to be able to give a knowledgable perspective you need to do more than that

MaizieD Sat 15-Jul-17 09:44:30

Oh, the forum police are back...

rosesarered Sat 15-Jul-17 09:50:58

If I want a knowledgeable perspective on a country ( sorry Gransnetters) I do not look on here for it.
If a poster on here has lived in a country and makes a few comments on the time they lived there, I do not 'take them to task' on it because I do not like what they are saying.
We can give our opinions on here, but even if we quote chapter and verse and name sources as if we were taking an Oxford degree, we could still differ from another person that has lived in the same country.
I suspect that if the same poster had said she found Canada to be right wing then she may have had nods of agreement, or no comments or insults aimed at her at
all.Just a thought.

Rigby46 Sat 15-Jul-17 09:53:34

Oh don't be so ridiculous

Primrose65 Sat 15-Jul-17 10:07:28

I'm quite happy to, and capable of, explaining any comment I make - and I have done it several times. But no one else seems to be interested in themselves doing that. I'm unclear why it's one special rule for me. I'm not special. I'm not different.

Political debate isn't trying to pick holes in a sentence in my books, calling opinions stupid or ignorant. We all have different life experiences that have shaped us.

Who made you the judge of the reliability and validity of my opinions? Rigby I thought we're all equal. Are we?
