Chief Executive has resigned - SJ told him to go he says. Good. Now let's see the leader do the honourable thing.

whitewave I think we have to be careful about blaming the shortage of staff at all levels on 'austerity'. These cuts in public services have been deliberately designed by the governments since the global crisis. The idea of austerity is just a way of conning people. Look how quickly it can be manipulated to keep governments in power.

Chewbacca Sun 02-Jul-17 09:10:21

Well you've made it perfectly obvious to whom you are referring GGMK2. Such an unnecessary, mean and spiteful post. Why not just ignore "that person", instead of broadcasting that you will and, by default, inviting others so to support you. Now thats derailment of a thread.

durhamjen Sun 02-Jul-17 09:13:18

I agree, GracesGran.

Chewbacca Sun 02-Jul-17 09:14:23

Point proven

durhamjen Sun 02-Jul-17 09:19:17

I agree with her about not blaming austerity for everything. How is that point proven?

Iam64 Sun 02-Jul-17 09:23:03

Chewbacca - I'm with you. Being at opposite ends of a political view doesn't necessarily lead to personal attacks.

Chewbacca Sun 02-Jul-17 09:34:36

There have been some brilliant, incisive points made on this thread, some I have agreed with, some not, but I cannot agree with excluding anyone the right to have their voice heard.

Anniebach Sun 02-Jul-17 09:43:24

Cbewbacca, GG speaks for a group, recently she said in a post to me 'we' not 'I' , doubt it's the Royal we'

Ana Sun 02-Jul-17 09:47:48

It's the equivalent of the 'ignore' round robin PM.

Anniebach Sun 02-Jul-17 09:50:50

All part of the same Ana

Kensington and Chelsea have started thinking now. They realise that they need residents on side.
Now they just have to ask them about the scope of the inquiry.

A tenant from the tower claims the police are covering up the number of fatalities

Jalima1108 Sun 02-Jul-17 10:08:42

I doubt very much that they are covering up, more a case of they still don't know and are trying to work it out which is a long and painstaking process.

However, I can understand the anxiety of the tenants.

whitewave Sun 02-Jul-17 10:19:08

I think that it so easy to make a case for conspiracy because of the way the tenants have been treated both before and since the fire, and the way the council, government and police have behaved.

It seems to be that in this country what we do have is an instinct to be opaque, rather than transparent. That doesn't mean necessarily that there has been a cover up, but it does mean that as a result opaqueness ensures distrust.

Anniebach Sun 02-Jul-17 10:21:54

No reason for a cover up, the council have flack not not releasing the numbers, the police do this and as no one knows how many were in the tower block that night, some bodies are a cinder , some flats were sub let, possibility of ilegal immigrants, yet a number of dead is demanded

Chewbacca Sun 02-Jul-17 10:23:41

I too don't think that the police, or anyone else, is covering up the number of fatalities. Like Jalima , I think it will be a long time before the process is completed and it has to be done thoroughly. There was a catastrophic explosion and fire, very close to where I live, 3 years ago. 4 people died in that fire and they have never been able to find any trace of 1 victim. They only officially closed the file and issued a death certificate for him last year. The tragedy of GT involved many, many more people and may therefore take even longer. Not a cover up, just thorough investigation.

Anniebach Sun 02-Jul-17 10:26:38

Any disaster or death of a public figure and there conspiracy theories .

If the fridge/freezer was the cause of the fire, it could have happened in any of the tower blocks which has thst cladding, Camden,Islington and many more

durhamjen Sun 02-Jul-17 10:31:54

People are still frightened to admit to having been there, even people who have been hurt in the fire.

Chewbacca Sun 02-Jul-17 10:43:01

To be fair durham, everyone who was in GT has been assured repeatedly that their legal status, or lack of it, has nothing to fear by coming forward and being accounted for. They have been assured that their will be no repercussions or investigations into their reasons for being in GT, or the UK; their well being and safety is the only interest.

Anniebach Sun 02-Jul-17 10:44:54

So how can a number be given? The media are whipping up conspiracy theories

durhamjen Sun 02-Jul-17 10:47:18

To be fair, just read the article, Chewbacca.
It says while accessing services. It doesn't say anything about afterwards.
That's what people are worried about.
That's why the doctors have asked Hunt and May for reassurances about, and have received no response.
May is not known for her philanthropic stance towards migrants.
That article is only two days old.

Anniebach Sun 02-Jul-17 10:47:54

Abbott was on the radio this morning saying there should be assurance given, she didn't know it had been given

There will be some who will never come forward or speak out

Anniebach Sun 02-Jul-17 10:50:34

If ilegal immigrants should they be given assurance there will be no follow up at a later date ?

durhamjen Sun 02-Jul-17 10:57:43

How kind of you, Annie, to point that out.
That's why they are not going to give themselves up, no matter how hurt they are. That's why a clandestine GP service is needed.
That's why we will never know the true numbers.

Socialist principles shining through again.
