Chief Executive has resigned - SJ told him to go he says. Good. Now let's see the leader do the honourable thing.

Anniebach Sun 02-Jul-17 11:03:07

Jen - ? This is a question mark, it is used when asking a question in writing, a question is a question not a statement of fact. You are too eager to snipe , get over excited

GracesGranMK2 Sun 02-Jul-17 11:03:19

David Lammy was on Sophie Ridge. He said one of the reasons it is difficult to estimate the numbers is they don't yet have an accurate list of survivors yet.

durhamjen Sun 02-Jul-17 11:05:34

And we know the reason for that, as well, GracesGran. Some of them are too scared to come forwards.
Because people are questioning whether they should have been there in the first place, and whether they should have an amnesty if they were.

durhamjen Sun 02-Jul-17 11:06:50

Is that on Sky, GracesGran?
Can you afford it on a pension?

Jalima1108 Sun 02-Jul-17 11:13:11

^The person who gets the money takes it out of your bank. They could have stopped it. Surely you know that, Elegran.
It is an automated system and perhaps in all the trauma of what happened that was an oversight.
However, the BACS payment would not necessarily be annotated as being from a Grenfell Tower resident, it would be a payment from a person to the Housing Department of the council and it could take time to ascertain which residents were living in that and in other vacated council properties.

durhamjen Sun 02-Jul-17 11:16:20

'The best comment on the ongoing Grenfell Tower cladding scandal came from one of the survivors a few days ago.

This person was quoted as saying, perhaps they would get more attention if they lived in Northern Ireland.

It is a remark that has the ring of truth to it. After all, Theresa May had no trouble finding £1 billion with which to bribe the DUP into supporting her – creating a public backlash against her ‘bung Parliament’ as a consequence.

But it took her five days to find £5 million for the victims of Grenfell.

And the minority government’s response to the situation continues to be woeful.'

Chewbacca Sun 02-Jul-17 11:17:28

But what more can they do? The survivors of the fire have been given assurance that there will be no repercussions as to the legality of them being in the UK and that they have nothing to fear from the police by coming forward.

I find it quite appalling that Doctors of the World feel the need to set up a clinic in this country. They are usually concerned with refugees and other poverty stricken areas.

Anniebach Sun 02-Jul-17 11:26:35

If ilegal immigrants does it take a genius to work out they should not have been there Jen? question mark

durhamjen Sun 02-Jul-17 11:27:18

No they haven't, Chewbacca.
They have said, "WHILE ACCESSING SERVICES".

Nothing about what happens afterwards.
That's why there is a 38 degrees petition about the NHS not sharing information with other services on the doctorsoftheworld link.

durhamjen Sun 02-Jul-17 11:28:56

Right, so we just leave them to die, do we, Annie?
Send them back where they came from?

All heart again, Annie.

Anniebach Sun 02-Jul-17 11:33:33

You still haven't got the hang of a question mark Jen, too much excitement when you think you have a chance to bitch it seems

Chewbacca Sun 02-Jul-17 11:34:12

But that's not what Anniebach said at all durham ! She asked the question! She followed her sentence with a question mark! It was a question, not a statement, do you not see that?

Jalima1108 Sun 02-Jul-17 11:50:42

If I was an illegal immigrant I think I would be nervous of authorities too. After all, they may have escaped from murderous regimes where torture and unexplained deaths may be the norm. Although they may be told they are safe here there would still be that hesitancy of making their presence felt just in case they were sent back, despite assurances to the contrary.
They have probably, through their experiences in their own countries, lost any trust in authority.

Yes, anniebach is 'all heart' and compassionate as far as I have been able to tell from what she posts on here.

durhamjen Sun 02-Jul-17 11:57:46

Except for illegal immigrants, Jalima. Annie doesn't appear to be showing compassion for them on here.

Is there any reason why a question should not be answered with a question?
People do it all the time, so stop being so pedantic, Annie and Chewbacca. It's not clever.
If you haven't taken in the answer, that's your problem, not mine.

durhamjen Sun 02-Jul-17 12:00:11

Also, Jalima, if you read the doctors link, they say that one reason these people will not go to the centre is because there are police standing outside.

The assurances only extend to getting help at the moment. Nothing about whether their information is shared afterwards.

Chewbacca Sun 02-Jul-17 12:12:50

I'm pedantic? Really? I have seen nothing at all that indicates that Anniebach doesn't have sympathy with every victim of the GT fire, absolutely none at all. As has every poster over the last 11 pages of this thread.

durhamjen Sun 02-Jul-17 12:14:46

On ITV news.
"Is rent still being taken out of dead people's accounts?"

Jalima1108 Sun 02-Jul-17 12:14:58

I find it quite appalling that Doctors of the World feel the need to set up a clinic in this country. They are usually concerned with refugees and other poverty stricken areas.

Perhaps this paragraph from the link answers that question:

Doctors of the World’s UK clinics regularly see seriously unwell people who fear going to a doctor because of their immigration status. Home Office immigration teams can access NHS patients’ records in order to obtain private details, such as home addresses, and track down undocumented migrants.

They are nervous because they feel they may be deported but then again, they may not be.
If anyone is in another country illegally that fear will always be there wherever it is.

Jalima1108 Sun 02-Jul-17 12:16:44

"Is rent still being taken out of dead people's accounts?"
Possibly, until the authorities are informed of a death and the BACS system adjusted that could happen.
For the same reason that pensions, benefits are still paid automatically until the authorities are informed.

Iam64 Sun 02-Jul-17 12:18:49

"All heart again anniebach". How anyone can seriously suggest Annie has no heart I simply don't know.
A number of us have suggested personal attacks are preventing many others from contributing to the political discussions.
Is it possible for strong feelings to be expressed, question asked without personal attacks?

durhamjen Sun 02-Jul-17 12:21:29

From Private Eye.

Chewbacca Sun 02-Jul-17 12:21:32

I cannot see any government deporting anyone who has been a victim of this tragedy. The public outcry and media furore would go into meltdown very quickly. Can we not just concentrate on getting every one rehoused and resettled? There is no point in trying to premeditate what might happen. It just as likely might not.

Jalima1108 Sun 02-Jul-17 12:21:46

Iam64 I agree.
It is very off-putting and contributes nothing to the discussions.

Chewbacca Sun 02-Jul-17 12:22:42

Apparently not Iam64, but the question has been asked many, many times.
