Chief Executive has resigned - SJ told him to go he says. Good. Now let's see the leader do the honourable thing.

Anniebach Sun 02-Jul-17 12:22:44

If you gave an answer Jen not replied with your usual bitching

I did not say they should be left to die, I did not say they should be sent back to ehere they came from , got it this time

One thing is definite , I unlike you have not used the deaths to score political points .

I lived through a disaster , I know the grief, anger , accusations and false accusations which develop . I now the hypocrisy of some who get all their knowledge from the media. .

And fifty years in there is still one unknown man buried in Aberfan Cemetry who died in the disaster , and I can assure you if a Welsh mining village community didn't know who he was I can understand a tower block of people, different nationalities not knowing all who were in those apartments

Strange how nobody notices Annie's personal attacks on me.

Avoiding the table tennis on here by wearing my colander on my head.

An article about the situation in Scotland:

That's sad, Granny23. One man killed in the Scottish fire in 1999 was what it took to change the regulations in Scotland.

There were more deaths in England, and the regulations were not changed.
I feel quite disgusted.

Some flats in Newcastle have been tested, but the residents don't believe the results of the tests.
The paper has started a list of places which have ben or are being tested, and gives the results, just to reassure the public.

Granny23, I am hopeless at table tennis. With only being able to see out of one eye, the ball is always in a different place to where I think it is!

Your assuming that every illegal migrant in GF was in the uk for the best intentions.
What if one, just one, was wanted by our security services as someone who was planning a terrorist threat to our country.
I see nothing wrong with wanting to know who is in our country.

durhamjen Sun 02-Jul-17 13:17:23

Nothing to do with the London fire, but that's an excellent website, Granny23.
Have you watched Murphy's video about tax loopholes?

That must be of concern to the security bods Petra

Another reason why some may not come forward - if claiming housing benefits a tenant is asked who lives in the premises, it often happens that a wage earner is not mentioned, I am not saying this is the case but it is is a possibility

Fire brigade.

I think you are being a bit hard on housing benefit claimants anniebach I worked for in an HB office for some years and in my experience most claimants were honest. I do not believe that they OFTEN neglected to mention a wage earner at all.
There is so much suspicion regarding benefit claimants, when it is generally acknowledged that the level of fraud in the system is greatly exaggerated.

'In Lammy’s view, councils like Kensington and Chelsea simply don’t know how to do civic any more. “They believe they are there for the upper middle class folk of Notting Hill, who rely on their bin collections, and want their roads fixed, and don’t want high-rise blocks looking like eyesores so they get them cladded. That’s about it for them in terms of public services.”

He describes the borough council as the epitome of “light-touch” regulation, which puts every service out to competitive tender or outsources it, a tendency that has infected all local government since the 1980s. The result of this philosophy, he believes, was that when the crisis happened it was not only that the council failed to act, it was more that the habit of intervention was not in their make-up. “Ironically, if they had asked a private company like Capita to come in and take charge they would have had more skills than the local authority,” Lammy says. “But they didn’t, because presumably even they could see it wouldn’t have looked right.” '

GracesGran mentioned David Lammy on Sophie Ridge.

So the ideal judge ( for David Lammy) would be mixed race, gender fluid, with one leg, was once a millionaire who had lost all their money, and, doesn't support any political party. Then he/she would be empathetic to all humanity.
That's a big ask.

Chewbacca Sun 02-Jul-17 16:12:00

And I suspect he/she would still be found lacking petra.

mcem Sun 02-Jul-17 16:12:37

And that is a ridiculous comment!

durhamjen Sun 02-Jul-17 16:40:13

Expected nothing else, mcem.

I think David Lammy would know better than most of us what the ideal judge would be, having been a barrister himself.

durhamjen Sun 02-Jul-17 16:44:16

I was reading this morning about a man who lost his unborn child. His wife was put in an induced coma, and the baby born dead. If they hadn't done that, his wife could have lost her life as well, and they had two other children.

I expect this family would prefer a judge more like David Lammy than the one appointed.

Chewbacca Sun 02-Jul-17 16:58:57

I was reading this morning about how ordinary members of the public are paying for both victims of the GT fire, and the emergency personnel who helped them, to have a fully paid for holiday. They've already had 100 responses from holiday home owners. emergency-services_uk_594a2391e4b0177d0b8a634c?utm_hp_ref=uk-good-news

That's lovely, positive and good news, isn't it?

petra Sun 02-Jul-17 17:14:02

mcm
Did you read the link. David Lammy inferred that the judge was: too white, too rich and too middle class.

mcem Sun 02-Jul-17 17:20:47

I most certainly did read the link and see that he has reservations - so do I given that the judge has connections with Kensington council.
Nowhere in the article did I read anything resembling your nasty ott comments.

mcem Sun 02-Jul-17 17:26:17

Apologies. The judge acquired his dubious reputation over a total lack of sympathy in a Westminster housing case. Should I (and David Lammy) shrug off reservations then ?
