Cliff Edge anyone?

This term gets bandied about in relation to Brexit without any of the consequences attached to it.

I have just done some research/ reading and thought it was time we all had the opportunity to discuss what exactly a "cliff edge Brexit" means and whether it can be taken seriously as a "no deal is better than a bad deal" deal.

So talks have failed and our government decides to go it alone.

It is day one of Britains great adventure

We have no trade deals with the EU or the rest of the world.
The economy goes into recession
We now have in front of us several years of negotiating trade deals both with our potentially biggest customer -Europe and the rest of the World.
Countries like Argentina and others that bear a grudge will block any dealings with the WTO.
Getting exports to Europe will become an absolute nightmare, as even if we have successfully arranged our borders for a post Brexit scenario, Europe has only just begun to get their border controls in place for the flow of goods to and from the UK.
The SE becomes a huge lorry park as good stand waiting to be processed. There is a potential for shortages to occur- particularly in relation to food, as there is only one port in Europe that is set up to deal with this commodity, and that is not yet functioning.
Issues like "country of origin" causes complete chaos for business and everything becomes a bureaucratic nightmare.
Flights are delayed/cancelled until the UK can do its own deals with regard to flight rights.
And of course as we have read only recently, nuclear material will dry up, threatening cancer and other treatment.

Just been said that the government does not have the numbers in Parliament to leave Euratom, so they are going to have to work out how to stay in and what problems leaving the ECJ will mean.
Interesting.
Can we stay in Euratom and leave the ECJ? Nobody knows.
So therefore we have to work out which is most important.

Something really interesting come up from the forum that should not be named.

So this is the conundrum

Has May shot herself deliberately in the foot or has she (much more likely) failed to think through the implication

The May/Davis Brexit vision requires about 8 major bills to be passed before March19.

They have to pass both HoL and HoC
But

The bill must be rejected by the HoL in 2 successive parliamentary sessions before the PM can invoke the Parliament Act to force through the HoC.

this parliament is a two year session

So in the event of a what the HoL deem to be a calamitous Brexit, will the HoL block the bill beyond the A50 cut off?

IMO I think they must see that as their duty to save the UK

That is good dj

Frustration isn't the word more like banging head against brick wall.

I have visions now of every single Brexiter with their ass in the air and head buried in blocks of concrete. The garbage coming out of their rear ends needs dealing with correctly I.e. Straight down the toilet.

I watched the latter part of the programme about the fight for the Tory leadership that was repeated last night. What amazed me was the MP's who were interviewed in the none dramatized bits almost as if it was a spin off from Big Brother, laughing and joking about the backbiting and stabbing in the back that was going on, Boris Johnson was doing everything purely to become PM [I'm assuming, having missed the start of it that he was also a brexiteer for the very same reason]. These people are running our country sad. It was like watching 'The Thick of It' but with real, current day politicians.I may watch the whole programme on catchup; I had intended not to, being heartily sick of all the shenanigans of recent months. I don't think the British public [what with the gutter press etc]know what is truth and what is fiction these days sad.

Was that called something like Boris and May tegan only I have it on catch up and haven't yet caught up!!

Tegan2 Tue 11-Jul-17 11:27:47

I don't know; I'm going to check it out in a bit [am stuck at home waiting for a delivery which probably won't arrive till late afternoon!]. Gove came across as a complete *****!It did seem to show Johnson as some sort of superstar which I found a bit worrying.I used to love programmes that laughed at current affairs [Spitting Image etc] but I'm now finding them a bit disturbing.

Let me know please? As it sounds good

whitewave Tue 11-Jul-17 12:23:21

Euratom - so Maybot says it will be replicated exactly in the U.K.

Really - so why leave it!?

What a horrible thing to say, whitewave. You're really sinking to new levels now...

whitewave Tue 11-Jul-17 17:52:09

Nope it is true and as a cancer sufferer in recovery I feel perfectly entitled to say exactly what I did.

rosesarered Tue 11-Jul-17 17:53:38

I agree, a rotten thing to say, and I really think that the decision to leave the EU has made your posts very, very strange ww, one would say hysterical at times.

Ana Tue 11-Jul-17 17:55:07

all you wimpy cancer sufferers - yeah, like they all voted to leave.

I'm a cancer survivor too and would never disparage fellow-sufferers like that. You're unbelievable in your hatred of Brexiters.

whitewave Tue 11-Jul-17 17:56:55

Oh dear nothing more interesting to say than that rose

I had no idea that you are reading this thread, as there has been so many opportunities to comment with more intelligence on the various posts.

whitewave Tue 11-Jul-17 17:58:56

You are correct in one aspect I hate Brexit, it is the most damaging thing we could ever do to our country.

Even Davis is acknowledging that no other European country will do what we have done. It is a disaster.

whitewave Tue 11-Jul-17 17:59:36

Still it brought the pair of you out in the opengrin

whitewave Tue 11-Jul-17 18:02:01

What is appalling is to accept that by leaving Brexit we may endanger cancer sufferers life that is what is so utterly gross. And it could be me or any one of us in the future.

Ana Tue 11-Jul-17 18:08:34

I can't believe you were actually on holiday - no one would have noticed as you seem to be on here all day, every day whitewave. Some of us have lives...

whitewave Tue 11-Jul-17 18:19:56

What are you talking about ana?

Ana Tue 11-Jul-17 18:21:53

I think it's pretty obvious, you can't be that obtuse.

Ana Tue 11-Jul-17 18:22:21

Can you?

whitewave Tue 11-Jul-17 18:22:44

I am I'm afraid, perhaps you would be so kind as to enlighten me?

Ana Tue 11-Jul-17 18:26:11

Sigh...

Still it brought the pair of you out in the open

As though roses and I had been lurking around this thread all day and only now decided to post.

Unlike some people when they're on holiday - you'd never know they were gone.

Rigby46 Tue 11-Jul-17 18:28:30

What people do on holiday re GN is up to them and doesn't require snide comments from you ana ( not that that will stop you of course)
