Very much needed.

First happy thing to report.

Unison have won their case making it illegal to charge employees for employment litigation. Introduced by the Tories in 2013.

The judges quite rightly said it was wrong to make it difficult/impossible for anyone to resort to law.

Those who paid will be reimbursed.

No!!! Of course not. It was never shown on anything other than Parliament.

GracesGranMK2 Sun 01-Oct-17 16:03:38

I think there must be some in that conference who wish Ruth Davidson was their leader. The contrast with May is so extreme.

whitewave Sun 01-Oct-17 16:07:45

She has been mentioned as a prospect

whitewave Sun 01-Oct-17 16:14:25

Just switching channels Catalan looks bad

durhamjen Sun 01-Oct-17 17:31:29

The people's assembly were marching there today. They have a week long festival, which is probably much more exciting than the Tory Conference.

Ruth Davidson needs to be an MP in Westminster before she can become Tory leader.

mcem Sun 01-Oct-17 18:30:44

And has said that she had no intention of leaving Edinburgh.
I'd guess that any 'safe' Tory constituency would jump at the chance of having her.
I think, as the party falls apart, she may have to step in and sort them out.

May still insists that her cabinet is united.

www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-10-01/may-insists-u-k-cabinet-united-as-johnson-rocks-boat-on-brexit

Can the Tories actually get rid of her at the conference?

whitewave Sun 01-Oct-17 19:06:31

30-50 thousand on Brexit march in Manchester

FarNorth Sun 01-Oct-17 20:38:10

Ruth Davidson can look good, shouting from the sidelines. She'd be as hopeless as any other Tory, as leader, but maybe a bit better than Boris.

FarNorth Sun 01-Oct-17 20:39:44

I think, as the party falls apart, she may have to step in and sort them out.
If she's the one they're relying on, they might as well give up.
(And I think they should give up.)

whitewave Sun 01-Oct-17 20:52:23

She only seemed better at the Tory conference, because those speakers before her were absolutely dreadful, but really she didn't say anything worthwhile.

GracesGranMK2 Sun 01-Oct-17 21:22:18

I thought some of the areas that she identified as an issue were interesting. I am not sure they are capable of getting out of the neo-liberal economic trap for long enough to solve them however and, even if they did they would still be overwhelmed by the self inflicted problems of Brexit. May made that impossible from the beginning by thinking only the majority mattered and not, while accepting the direction of the vote, considering the other half of the country.

durhamjen Sun 01-Oct-17 22:25:15

Eric Pickles has said that the party should be prepared for snap elections.
I wonder who he has been talking to.

I prefer this story.

Or even this one.

She's going to be busy - or do you think she will get someone else to do it for her while she hides and pretends it's nothing to do with her?

The hal was half empty.

Primrose65 Sun 01-Oct-17 22:38:48

What do you mean by the neo-liberal economic trap?

durhamjen Sun 01-Oct-17 22:38:58

The hall, even.

GracesGranMK2 Sun 01-Oct-17 22:43:07

Primrose, I give you the benefit of assuming you are not stupid - do some research.

Primrose65 Sun 01-Oct-17 22:47:18

I have - I cannot find anyone who uses the term unless they are referring to Chile. Is that what you meant?

durhamjen Sun 01-Oct-17 22:50:26

Don't think much of your search engine.
You could look at tax research or open democracy.

Primrose65 Sun 01-Oct-17 22:56:27

Only asking for clarity so I can follow the discussion.
I know what neoliberalism is.
I don't know what is meant by neo-liberal economic trap in the context of the post.

Instead of telling me I can search or research, just post a couple of links. I'm sure I'm not the only person who would appreciate a deeper understanding.
