Very much needed.

First happy thing to report.

Unison have won their case making it illegal to charge employees for employment litigation. Introduced by the Tories in 2013.

The judges quite rightly said it was wrong to make it difficult/impossible for anyone to resort to law.

Those who paid will be reimbursed.

most 2million+ on the waiting list at the moment. 25k Houses scheduled to be built over next 5years. The maths don’t add up do they?-always supposing it happens.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 05-Oct-17 10:16:00

I am glad you can see it whitewave (you do wonder when you think these things) but I think you are right. If she continues a mixed economy will become more acceptable again but the hard right of the party have got so much control because of Brexit and may not let go. The would drag us back towards the neo-liberalism which has grown since Thatcher.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 05-Oct-17 10:21:59

Five thousand houses a year is certainly not enough. They need to let the councils build again - but it is a breakthrough.

I don't see them accepting that we need more investment in infrastructure, in education, in housing and in the regions in order to grow the economy because they would just be parroting what the LP are saying. However right they recognise that to be they will not say so.

lemongrove said "Boris Johnson is a liability though, and always has been, but probably a good idea to keep an eye on him within the Cabinet."

Keeping a selfish, devious oaf in a government position is a good idea? Why?

mostlyharmless Thu 05-Oct-17 10:51:22

Keep your enemies closer! Theresa May and Boris.

lemongrove Thu 05-Oct-17 11:11:15

Am glad that somebody ‘gets it’ mostlyharmless ?

whitewave Thu 05-Oct-17 11:24:07

mostly I would agree that in no real times this is a good strategy, but this isn’t normal times-far from it.

But to be honest I Think as far as May is concerned it is immaterial. Nothing she does now will be of any significance.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 05-Oct-17 11:33:48

FarNorth that man is representing you, me and everyone else to the rest of the world - and he is an oaf. I do not want to be represented by someone whose opinion of themselves seems to be well above anyone else's opinion of them and who goes abroad for Great Britain and insults people.

The 'keep you friends close, etc.,' is true in some instances but not all. It can just be an easy, trite saying just as 'Forgive your enemies, but never forget their names.' can be - particularly if they change their names grin.

The friend and enemies, close and closer quote is often attributed to Sun Tzu but he said a great deal more than this. For example:

"... but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself."

We can only hope. What Sun Tzu does not do is stop at keeping your enemy closer. If the enemy remains an enemy he talks about how to crush him so the oaf has been kept closer but more now needs to be done before he completely wrecks the opinions held abroad by other countries.

mostlyharmless Thu 05-Oct-17 11:36:54

"Keep your enemies closer" is also sometimes attributed to Machiavelli!

mostlyharmless Thu 05-Oct-17 11:44:39

Boris remains 3/1 for the next Conservative leader.
Then David Davis at 15/2 (hasn't he said he is retiring soon?) then Amber Rudd 8/1
Rees-Mogg and Hammond at 10/1.
Well that's according to Paddy Power.
I've not much confidence in any of those as Prime Minister.
Oh..... Jeremy Corbyn

Anniebach Thu 05-Oct-17 12:03:38

I see so much the same with May and Gordon Brown

whitewave Thu 05-Oct-17 12:13:56

Daily politics - lots of chat about the car crash, but hardly anything about the content.

She is definately toast.

Morgana Thu 05-Oct-17 13:13:29

Do we really think that May was hinting at a mixed economy viewpoint? Wasn't she just making empty promises?

mostlyharmless Thu 05-Oct-17 14:48:54

Rumours that a delegation of 30 MPs will ask her to resign according to the Telegraph and the Evening Standard.

Ana Thu 05-Oct-17 14:52:50

When?

FarNorth Thu 05-Oct-17 15:01:07

Well said GG.

That is an uninspiring bunch of possible contenders for PM. Boris would be last on my list of preferences.

Anniebach Thu 05-Oct-17 15:06:05

The Evening Standard? Editor the sacked George Osbourne

mostlyharmless Thu 05-Oct-17 15:38:59

When Ana? They say in the next few days.
But perhaps they will be placated. (By the odd ten billion for favoured causes perhaps?)

nigglynellie Thu 05-Oct-17 15:40:43

Reminds me of John Major. The right wing made his life complete hell on earth whatever he did, and are clearly raring for a repeat performance! The one thing Margaret Thatcher seemed to have had initially that alludes Theresa May was luck. Everything than can go wrong does, and without a change of luck sadly she's on a hiding to nowhere. One thing for sure she's got more courage in her little finger than all her colleagues put together; They treat her shamefully and are shameful in the way they are clearly trying to bring her down. History obviously repeating itself! oh and being a woman probably adds to her handicap (as it did for MT) even in this day and age!

durhamjen Thu 05-Oct-17 16:18:36

I presume those who are standing up for May also stood up for Miliband when he was eating that sandwich.
Thought not.

nigglynellie Thu 05-Oct-17 16:48:45

If that's a pop at me dj then you are wrong! Although I had no time for his policies and thought he was as the wrong brother, I did feel sorry for him when he did seem so gaffe prone and the press and others so unkind about things he couldn't help that were actually irrelevant. I have never taken pleasure in other peoples unfortunate misfortunes whoever they are and never will.

durhamjen Thu 05-Oct-17 17:25:36

Does it mention you, niggly?

This is interesting. Brexiteers think they have managed to get trade deals sorted over food exports and imports. They are wrong.
Even that friend of May's with the special relationship begs to differ.

nigglynellie Thu 05-Oct-17 17:52:29

I said 'if' dj, I didn't say 'was', there is a difference! Also, for the record, I don't call people childish hurtful names either just to get a cheap snigger, whoever those people happen to be or whatever political party they happen to support/belong to/lead.

whitewave Thu 05-Oct-17 18:55:49

Wonder if Hammond will be able to find another money tree as the latest one has almost certainly been cut down by what will be the OBRs report of growth being much slower than expected.
Doesn’t bode well for the budget.

durhamjen Thu 05-Oct-17 19:01:43

Are you having a pop at me, niggly?
Not that I care.
