Very much needed.

First happy thing to report.

Unison have won their case making it illegal to charge employees for employment litigation. Introduced by the Tories in 2013.

The judges quite rightly said it was wrong to make it difficult/impossible for anyone to resort to law.

Those who paid will be reimbursed.

jen; I think he still has a job because he keeps a low profile. The S.O. and I often turn to each other and say 'hmm, haven't seen/heard of Jeremy Hunt for days/weeks/months'.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 12-Oct-17 11:57:32

He has been talking this morning and stating the obvious. I cannot believe a government that has been in power for so long can get away with this. He has discovered that people now have complex needs and there is burnout among GPs.

The Guardian said it was the G7. So who do I believe, you or the Guardian, close call.

petra Thu 12-Oct-17 16:59:29

Forgot to add. Big big difference between the two.

Morgana Thu 12-Oct-17 20:32:24

Surely Hunt is still in position because he is busy privatising the N.H.S. and no doubt many of the Tories own the companies being awarded the contracts and raking in the money. Or am I just being cynical?

We also fund the health service less than many other EU countries.

whitewave Fri 13-Oct-17 08:20:24

Oh sorry Petra, that should have read the worse performing country in the EU. Not sure where you got the G7 are you sure you read it correctly? Easy to make a mistake isn’t it?

Listening to the radio. Austerity has taken our prisons back to the Victorian era. We are rapidly becoming one of the less civilised countries.

petra Fri 13-Oct-17 11:15:28

whitewave
Perhaps if our prisons really reminiscent of the Victorian era they wouldn't be so full.

durhamjen Fri 13-Oct-17 16:22:49

"Squalid, overcrowded and unsanitary."
Sounds pretty similar. Of course in Victorian times we used to transport prisoners when they go too crowded.

JessM Fri 13-Oct-17 16:33:55

Yes the interview with the ex prisoner this morning said it all. Let them rot.
Anyone else noticed the government are trying to release a few announcements that make them a little less gruesome. Energy price cap for example. And a really feeble one about energy efficiency of housing. And a £25 bursary for GPs who are willing to train in areas where they can't get GPs. May has obviously told he cabinet to come up with a few bits of window dressing to make it look as if they care about ordinary people, the environment etc. Wonder what we'll get next week?
Here are some suggestions:
Environment: more beavers to be introduced in the West Country to discourage flooding
Health: An in-depth review of the effects of cutting the bursary for trainee nurses.
Education: a broad consultation on the impact of the new curriculum on working class white kids
Justice: bedtime cocoa for all prisoners
Work and Pensions: an impact study on the effects of Universal Credit on employment rates in deprived areas.

Phillip Hammond has now referred to the EU as 'the enemy' and has had to issue an apology.

MaizieD Fri 13-Oct-17 18:09:05

Hammond

I don't know how he manages to keep a straight face.
What a liar....

durhamjen Fri 13-Oct-17 22:05:54

Hunt said today that the "government was absolutely committed to increased funding in the NHS."

Another liar.

Briefing for November 2017 Budget: Incomes not keeping up with prices Suggestions from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation

whitewave Sat 14-Oct-17 08:06:34

Cockroaches, rats, and filthy cells. Insufficient clothing with prisoners without underwear and day wear. Spend enormous amounts of time locked up without any or minimal remedial care.
Sounds very Victorian to me petra

JessM Sat 14-Oct-17 09:03:51

When the government use the term "increased funding" they mean they have given more money to schools or NHS - but not enough to cover their rising costs. Simple example: teachers get an increment every year, so if the increased funding to a school is less than the increased salary bill, then the school is worse off and has to make cuts. And most of their money is spent on staff, so staff cuts...

Discuss with relation to the mess the Tories are making of our economy now.
Why is there not a penalty for any politician who tells lies?

durhamjen Sat 14-Oct-17 15:58:18

Still three years to go, GracesGran.

durhamjen Sat 14-Oct-17 16:22:57

This is brilliant.

www.disabilitynewsservice.com/dpac-shortlisted-for-human-rights-award-after-parliament-direct-action/

DPAC could get a human rights award for demonstrating against the government in the House of Commons.
You couldn't make it up. Unless it's been on The Thick of It already.

durhamjen Sun 15-Oct-17 09:47:59

NHS changes, again. Maybe the government thinks this is a good way to reduce the population.

durhamjen Sun 15-Oct-17 15:59:39

This is brilliant. The comment is "Today I met the man who encouraged me to join Labour and campaign in the general election."

JessM Sun 15-Oct-17 19:59:13

Yes that gave me a LOL DJ
