In the news this morning - one in three Jews are considering leaving the U.k because of racism.

83% believe the Labour Party are not doing enough to support them

trisher Wed 23-Aug-17 10:30:16

Where do you get your information from Annie most of it from the papers and news. If you don't see it you don't know it is happening. But I didn't expect you to even consider a reasoned argument.

Anniebach Wed 23-Aug-17 10:56:35

It wasn't reasoned Trisha, as the heckling of the MP can be seen on the internet - seen not read about - you refer to it as an alleged happening . I have seen far right thugs being taken on by crowds, didn't see then wearing tee shirts stamped Labour Party or far left yet you state as fact these people were labour and far left supporters, you know no tories, Libs involved ?

trisher Wed 23-Aug-17 12:01:47

Lots of Unite, RMT, NUT, Stop the War, Durham Miners and even a red hammer and sickle on view, but not one Tory flag. So perhaps they were there, but it was the left wingers leading and organising against racism as they always have.

nigglynellie Wed 23-Aug-17 12:19:06

But not antisemitism!

Anniebach Wed 23-Aug-17 12:30:18

I thought the same niggly, what the link has to do with lack of support for Jews is a mystery , unless trisha classes all Jews in the U.K as immigrants

Rosyapple189 Wed 23-Aug-17 12:43:19

Trisher, thank you for looking at the link. As far as the WHO is concerned, they have consistently adopted an anti Israel stand. Here are a few links to show the actual situation:http://www.timesofisrael.com/with-gaza-ailing-pa-accused-of-slashing-medical-aid-by-nearly-90/ and
mfa.gov.il/MFA/ForeignPolicy/Peace/Humanitarian/Pages/Israeli-aid-to-the-Palestinians-COGAT-update-February-2016.aspx
As you'll see, the amount of medications sent in by Israel has been cut this year because Abbas, Chairman of the PLO, which had been paying for medical supplies to Gaza, has drastically cut the amount, same for electricity (which the PLO owes Israel huge amount for anyway -the PLO has the money btw). Abbas now says it's up to Hamas to pay for these items and they must, after some 10 years in power (they won't get out), take responsibility for running Gaza and pay themselves. Hamas won't, their leaders prefer to keep vast amounts of what the world gives them. Their leaders have incredible mansions and even more incredible Swiss bank accounts, just as Arafat did.
Re your point about the numbers of Gazans treated in Israeli hospitals being inflated by counting in those accompanying patients, even if true, it's incredible that Israel takes any at all, they aren't obliged to now Gaza is independent of Israel. As Chairman Abbas would say, it's time Hamas took responsibility for his people. As said before, they have been given more than enough money to fund the needs of their society, (including building hospitals).

nigglynellie Wed 23-Aug-17 13:01:57

Rosyapple, some of us know this perfectly well, others just won't acknowledge it! I wonder if there will be an election in Gaza anytime soon? Hammas have been in power for so long now without going to the people, they begin to look like a permanent fixture! At least no one accuse Israel of not holding elections!

trisher Wed 23-Aug-17 14:41:59

So the UN and the WHO are both presenting biased and unfounded opinions? Well sorry but if someone is kicking me, another person notices and the kicker denies it I do hope people will listen to the observer and not the person who is doing the kicking. Although I understand that the kicker wouldn't want to admit it.
For those who can't accept that the march was against ALL racism including Islamophobia, and anti-semitism listen to Labour MP Chi Onwurah
as she condemns both. www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/newcastle-unites-thousands-turn-out-8740851
(Some people have to have things spelled out for them)

Anniebach Wed 23-Aug-17 14:45:35

It was spelled out Trisha, the banner said immigrants

trisher Wed 23-Aug-17 14:49:56

One banner in hundreds Annie but I fully accept that you don't think left wing activism against racism and and anti-semitism is something you would want to hear about. Watch the video there's some right wing stuff near the end you might find really repugnant and then perhaps you can acknowledge how important these anti-fascist left wing protests are for all people of different races, religions and nationalities.

Anniebach Wed 23-Aug-17 16:09:55

Trisher, your knowledge leaves me in awe, you know what posters think, you know what posters do and have done , you are the forums very own clairvoyant

nigglynellie Wed 23-Aug-17 16:30:00

annie!!!!! grin

Anniebach Wed 23-Aug-17 17:06:36

But I couldn't see anything about .Jews.

Jalima1108 Wed 23-Aug-17 17:08:32

I'm confused
Who is her please?
As in who is getting mixed up?

Rosyapple189 Thu 24-Aug-17 00:45:07

Got it right in the first sentence, Trisher.
Pity about the rest.

Is this not worrying, too?

Serkeen Thu 24-Aug-17 12:43:56

Racism what a horrible word.

It is just another word for hate.

We should be accepting each other and embracing and enjoying our differences and even learning from each other.

Why aren't we....Because there are good people and bad people and sometimes the bad people get to air their opinions

Anniebach Thu 24-Aug-17 13:48:13

I never thought of tipping tables over as physical violence

trisher Thu 24-Aug-17 22:35:41

Don't need to be clairvoyant to recognise when someone is talking a load of bolllocks Annie

Rosyapple189 had you just accepted that all is not fine in Gaza and that something must be done I would have treated your posts with much more respect. But condemning 2 reputable international organisations and refusing to admit Israel has any responsibility means I see only bias and prejudice. In fact "Methinks the lady doth protest too much"

Eloethan Fri 25-Aug-17 00:13:47

Rosyapple I suppose if you have lived in a country for 19 years without protest then it is fairly predictable that you would wholeheartedly agree with the way it is governed.

But there are Jewish people living in Israel and in other parts of the world who don't find Israel's policies acceptable and who do protest about what is happening. Is it being suggested that they are anti-semitic or somewhow brainwashed? They may be in the minority but sometimes minorities are right, especially when they are relatively powerless minorities.

It has been implied that Israel is an under dog and is constantly under attack. Yet in the UK, for instance, the Friends of Israel groups in the House of Commons are very well supported by both the Labour and the Conservative parties who exert much effort in trying to discredit people who criticise Israel's policies.

durhamjen Sun 27-Aug-17 13:19:46

What about press racism?

"Racism in the UK press is massively contributing to the climate of hostility that migrants, refugees and Muslims are facing. We’ve already spoken out about racism in the press, pressuring the Daily Mail directly, as well as asking companies to pull advertising contracts. But something is clearly going very wrong when newspapers can demonise entire cross sections of society without worrying about any consequences.

IPSO, as the media regulator, has been shirking its responsibility to hold the press to account on racism. It’s no surprise, since Trevor Kavanagh, who wrote the piece about "The Muslim Problem" sits on the board! Clearly, he must step down so that IPSO can implement an effective, unbiased inquiry.

Call on the press watchdog to start an inquiry into press racism and dismiss the Sun journalist from the board."

Globaljusticenow are asking about this.

lemongrove Sun 27-Aug-17 13:26:06

Rosyapple189 moderate Labour voters will not be heard either in the Party or on forums because all you will hear is anti-semitic rhetoric from the far left, and there is plenty on this thread alone.Fortunately others are not so blinkered.

whitewave Sun 27-Aug-17 13:48:10

Blimey lemon are you calling some posters anti-Semitic?

If so I fervently hope that you are successful in getting the posts deleted!!

whitewave Sun 27-Aug-17 14:04:19

I think perhaps this needs more informed debate in order that sense can be made of the accusation by posters of certain members of the Labour Party and indeed gransnet are anti-Semite in their rhetoric and actions.
