EXCLUSIVE: New CCTV footage reveals Jeremy Corbyn told truth about 'Traingate'

I think someone owes Corbyn an apology. It won't happen of course but at least this may balance the story the owners of the news wanted us to hear.

Ana Sat 26-Aug-17 13:30:15

I don't tink anyone has to pay if they're upgraded to first class for whatever reason. It'll be paid indirecty by other farepayers, of course.

durhamjen Sat 26-Aug-17 13:32:36

"Some TOCs have claimed to have invested significant
sums in the railway and it is relevant to debunk these here. For example in 2011 Virgin media office issued a ‘fact’ sheet saying: ‘Investment in trains by Virgin Trains was £1.2bn for Pendolinos and £1.06bn for Voyagers’60. But none of these trains were purchased with money
invested by Virgin and none of them are owned by Virgin (indeed the Voyager trains are now operated by Arriva). The Pendolino trains used by Virgin on West Coast Main Line are owned by the ROSCO Angel Trains and their purchase was underwritten by public money. "

durhamjen Sat 26-Aug-17 13:33:51

So nobody remembers the furore when Osborne had a second class ticket and upgraded himself to first class without paying?

Ana Sat 26-Aug-17 13:35:56

Yes, I do. What's that got to do with Corbyn?

durhamjen Sat 26-Aug-17 13:38:42

All the examples I have given are from this report.

Quality of Life, eh?

durhamjen Sat 26-Aug-17 13:39:40

Did you mention Corbyn in your last post? You said anyone.

Primrose65 Sat 26-Aug-17 13:39:59

What about East Coast dj when it was publically owned? Did they lease trains from Angel?

Ana Sat 26-Aug-17 13:50:22

Osborn upgraded himself - Corbyn (or whoever was despatched in his place) was upgraded by the train staff. See the difference?

durhamjen Sat 26-Aug-17 14:06:48

You can find out for yourself, primrose.

nigglynellie Sat 26-Aug-17 14:11:01

Well, it was those peoples lucky day then! It's an ill wind etc!!

minesaprosecco Sat 26-Aug-17 14:18:43

But corbyn wasn't actually upgraded was he Ana, other people were and he and his party were given their seats. It's all about semantics.

lemongrove Sat 26-Aug-17 14:21:39

We do come back to the same argument though, why did his team not book seats? Did they airily say, oh it will be fine, there will be loads of seats for us all?Was it a spur of the moment trip with not a minute to lose to book seats?
What numpties surrounding a political Leader do not book rail seats for them all.I think we may confidently think that he doesn't surround himself with numpties, but rather, sharp as a tack PR people, always looking to the main chance.
What great footage it will make, they no doubt cried gayly,
One in the eye for Branson and the government, with you our dear Comrade sadly sat on your document folder on the grim floor.
Come -the -Revolution When you get into power, things will be wonderful, seats for all, nay, free seats for all! And cleaner trains, and trains that run on time with fabulous sandwiches for the masses.?

Ana Sat 26-Aug-17 14:26:30

He wasn't upgraded because he chose to give the first class seats to some lowlier persons, minesaprosecco, no doubt to make himself look good.

Nothing to do with semantics.

minesaprosecco Sat 26-Aug-17 14:33:19

Really? You think Corbyn sees other people as lowlier than himself?

durhamjen Sat 26-Aug-17 14:35:36

They caught a train at 11.00 in order to be in Newcastle that evening. The train takes 3 hours. If they had booked seats they would have had to catch that train. If they had missed that train, they could have caught the next one or the one after that on an open ticket.
So much easier for them not to book seats.
Why is Corbyn being pilloried for not booking seats, when Branson can tell lie after lie and take tax payers money for running an unsatisfactory service?

trisher Sat 26-Aug-17 14:36:00

Maybe he had booked sets on a later train lemongrovebut arrived at the station early and got the first Virgin train, his ticket entitled him to. If we are pursuing the silly argument let's go all the way. And unless his team travel regularly from London to Newcastle they are unlikely to know about the train overcrowding, just as many of the people on here don't believe in it.
When someone veers off into fantasy which they mistakenly think is satire they really admit the argument is lost.
t doesn't matter why or how, it was true. Branson lied and you are being manipulated and brain washed.

lemongrove Sat 26-Aug-17 14:38:44

That sounds a complicated scenario durhamjen all that fear of missing trains.
He could just have been driven there of course, in comfort.

lemongrove Sat 26-Aug-17 14:41:39

Since the whole bizzare stunt was a bit of a fantasy trisher no harm in a bit more, I feel.
Manipulated and brain washed? That would be Corbynistas I think.?

Ana Sat 26-Aug-17 14:49:52

Yes, especially as they're the ones who were completely taken in by the original con trick and are now desperate to clear the sainted Jeremy's name by smearing Branson just a bit more...!

Primrose65 Sat 26-Aug-17 15:04:35

I wonder who paid for the tickets for his wife and the documentary maker?

Anniebach Sat 26-Aug-17 15:06:10

Wonder why he caught a train at eleven to arrive at two for an evening appointment

And I can accept neither him or his staff had knowledge of life outside of London

durhamjen Sat 26-Aug-17 15:15:42

Pathetic, Annie. Your attacks get worse and worse all the time.
I'd just give up if I were you.

Not many people travel from London to Newcastle and get there at exactly the right time. Perhaps he knows people there. Perhaps people were there to meet him.
Perhaps he knows less about getting round Newcastle than you do!
At least he didn't fall over when getting down on the floor, unlike the love of your life, Kinnock.

trisher Sat 26-Aug-17 15:17:27

There wasn't a con trick Ana there were no seats he sat on the floor he wrote about it. The "con" and you are apparently still being fooled by it was Branson lying about Virgin trains. Still I've come to the conclusion all those who are OK and believe Branson deserve the privatisation of the NHS and his profiteering from our public services. It is the bright and intelligent young people who really want proper services and who deserve the same NHS we grew up with I feel sorry for. The boring old farts on here who are so concerned about if he booked tickets or not deserve all the cuts and the queues.

Primrose65 Sat 26-Aug-17 15:17:37

Wonder why he sits in other people's reserved seats when he's not travelling with a documentary film maker, but with 'his travelling companion'. Managed to use seat reservations that time.

Maybe he wanted to look around the city. We have many buildings worth visiting, from the original Castle keep to the Millennium Bridge or the Grainger Market with the oldest and smallest M&S in the country to St Nicholas' Cathedral also one of the smallest. So much to do and see. Or maybe he wanted a Bottle of Broon before his meeting.
