EXCLUSIVE: New CCTV footage reveals Jeremy Corbyn told truth about 'Traingate'

I think someone owes Corbyn an apology. It won't happen of course but at least this may balance the story the owners of the news wanted us to hear.

trisher Sat 26-Aug-17 15:29:53

Someone was in his seat he sat in another one and offered to move when asked FFS what has this got to do with Branson lying?

Elegran Sat 26-Aug-17 15:30:49

" If they had booked seats they would have had to catch that train. " No, if they had missed the train on which they had booked, they could have caught the next, and taken their chances on seats. ( so the booked seats would have had to have been on one even earlier than 11 - talk about belt and braces.)

And I have known businessmen who routinely booked seats on certain days and times, (Friday afternoons for example) when they had no idea whether they would be catching that train or not, so Corbyn & co would not have been obliged to take a specific train just because they had seats booked.

But I don't know why I am even bothering to post on this thread - it is one of the most futile in the whole series of timewasters on political topics.

Jen, Kinnock is not the love of my life, the love of my life died forty years ago. Seems you have just found yours smile

As for Kinnock stumbling on a beach, embarrassing, but it was an accident , he never hid behind a glass door , that was cringe time

nigglynellie Sat 26-Aug-17 15:44:05

I think most people are aware that the trains are overcrowded most of the time, so if you want to make sure of a seat, then book it in advance, leave enough time to get to the station to catch that train and you will have a seat for your journey. Quite easy really, my 16 year old granddaughter can do it, and does, - on her own!!

Anniebach Sat 26-Aug-17 15:52:25

My grandson at times has to travel from Cardiff to the London office, always a booked seat

Ana Sat 26-Aug-17 16:00:17

You know nothing about me, trisher. Nothing at all.

trisher Sat 26-Aug-17 16:05:33

So when you buy a ticket for a 3 hour train journey you are not entitled to a seat. If that is the case Virgin should make that clear on all their advertising. I have yet to see anything saying this. All I see is Branson lying about seats.

nigglynellie Sat 26-Aug-17 16:14:45

Heaven's dj, even for you that comment to annie was not only absurd, but, knowing her circumstances as most of us, do, extremely unkind, really horrid. Yes N.K did trip and nearly fall over, difference being he didn't do it for effect, it was a genuine accident - spot the difference?!

Primrose65 Sat 26-Aug-17 16:17:23

Will you be guaranteed a seat if the railways are renationalised trisher? How will JC deal with it?
Yep, thought so.

nigglynellie Sat 26-Aug-17 16:17:27

Of course you are entitled to a seat, but reality is that you may not get one unless you book. I'm sure JC is well aware of this, if he isn't then almost certainly his savvy staff would be.

durhamjen Sat 26-Aug-17 16:21:06

Actually, niggly, the love of my life is dead, too, but it doesn't stop any of you lot suggesting that we are in love with Corbyn, if we say he's telling the truth, does it?
If she can't take it, she shouldn't dish it out.

durhamjen Sat 26-Aug-17 16:29:33

Elegran, if you book a seat on a train, then catch a different one, you have to pay the full fare for that trip.
The full fare for a trip to Newcastle from King's Cross is £149.00
Most fares say specified trains only. Specified train is £135 for today, but you can get one for £65 tomorrow at 11.00

Do you not expect anyone going by train to get the cheapest they can? Being a taxpayer, of course.

durhamjen Sat 26-Aug-17 16:37:15

BUT THE BLOODY TRAINS SHOULDN'T BE OVERCROWDED MOST OF THE TIME.

www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/4203/realising-the-potential-of-gb-rail-summary.pdf#%5B%7B%22num%22%3A12%2C%22gen%22%3A0%7D%2C%7B%22name%22%3A%22XYZ%22%7D%2C-31%2C823%2C0.703003%5D

Our train fares are 30% more expensive than comparable fares on the continent. Our trains are 40% less efficient.

Anniebach Sat 26-Aug-17 16:41:50

Have never said you were in love with Corbyn, that's playground stuff, and certaintly never mocked you about the love of your life, you really are a nasty person Jen, Corbyn has certaintly brought the real you to the surface ,

Anniebach Sat 26-Aug-17 16:44:08

Thank you niggly, yes it was a vile thing to say, example of the hard left and why they are disliked in the world of politics.

Anniebach Sat 26-Aug-17 16:45:13

Wonder what train travel is like in Venezuela !

nigglynellie Sat 26-Aug-17 16:46:55

As annie says dj no one has mocked you, and it's that which is so unpleasant about your comment.

Elegran Sat 26-Aug-17 16:54:32

The businessmen I heard of were a few years ago, DJ so the rules must have been tightened. My other point still remains -they would not have been tied into one train by booking seats on it so their taking that particular 11 am train must have been either a spur-of the-moment decision. That is unlikely for the whole group of them at once, which would need some co-ordination. So it must have been either a group decision to travel without booking to prove a point, or they were disorganised enough to miss a previous one on which they were booked.

So the choice is between a group who are not organised enough to catch the train they were supposed to, or a group who plan a photo-opportunity on a packed train by displaying the leader of the opposition humbly sitting on the dirty floor.

Elegran Sat 26-Aug-17 16:57:10

I missed out a quote from the Virgin website " If you book an Advance or First Class ticket, you'll automatically have a seat reserved" so presumably they had not bought a ticket in advance either.

Anniebach Sat 26-Aug-17 17:02:40

Corbyn does humble so well , the politicians Uriah Heep

Ana Sat 26-Aug-17 17:07:41

Thanks Elegran, that just about sums up the whole ridiculous charade.

Anniebach Sat 26-Aug-17 17:12:31

Women's right groups and labour politicians have criticised the suggestion of women only train carriages brought up again Chris Williamson a Corbynite. Corbyn has slapped him down , claims it was a deeply unpopular suggestion .

Think he means " with hindsight I was wrong, again"

nigglynellie Sat 26-Aug-17 17:28:52

As you say Elegran your comment summed the whole thing up in a nutshell!
I think a woman only carriage would be a good idea particularly, and perhaps only in the evening. You can feel frighteningly vulnerable travelling on your own facing drunken often foul mouthed young people.

petra Sat 26-Aug-17 17:41:36

durhamjen
No shouting at the back please. We aren't stupid so you don't have to keep repeating the same old mantra.

Baggs Sat 26-Aug-17 18:13:56

That study is six years old and the conclusion of it states that it considers the necessary improvements can be delivered in a five to seven year timescale.

Can we have an update, please?
