Voting for Jeremy Corbyn - the political equivalent of buying a Harley Davidson

this is what puzzles me, how can anyone not be far left when it is so obvious their support of Corbyn is so strong so without one criticism .

I am accused of not caring for the party, it is because I care so deeply that it distresses me to see it being destroyed . It has never been a perfect party, I have not agreed 100% with every leader, but how come the MP's who support Corbyn are all newbies and the MP's who have served the party well for years do not support him.

I think momentum was set up to destroy the Labour Party yet I know more of their plotting than the Corbyn supporters, if they are party members they receive emails too yet claim they know nothing of it

Because in your case durhamjen you are a prolific poster who has told us over a length of time, in your many posts , who we should vote for such as the Greens, National Health Action Party but not Labour UNTIL Corbyn became Leader. Have you been telling us to do one thing but doing another?

You have said on more than one thread you ' know nothing about Momentum ' but you have posted on Momentum on previous threads.

I'm really concerned at the moment that Chris Williamson (who is not my MP but my nearest Labour MP) would like to massively increase council tax for homes on band D upwards. I'm away from home but just checked which band I'm on and it's D, because we had a very small extra bedroom built. The assumption seems to be that I'm rich because I'm in band D house whereas, in fact I'm surviving on a miniscule pension and can't even afford the cost of downsizing. I used to know Chris from way back when I was in the Labour party and I think he lives in a far nicer house than me and has a much greater income. I know it's a bit petty of me to have taken it so personally, and I do agree that I'd like more money for things like libraries, but am shocked that there is this assumption from him that someone like me can afford to pay a lot more in council tax. Rant over; needed to get it off my chest. When I'm back home with a computer that works properly (unlike this one) I shall contact him.

Don't understand this Tegan2 as, unless things have changed recently, you keep the band you are in, regardless of any added on rooms, until the house is sold, whereupon it's reassessed as to band.This happened in our case a few years ago.It was reassigned from D to F !?

Although, the way that council tax is applied, does vary from one region to another, some do not worry about how many added on rooms and just go for overall size in metres.

Council tax is a very unfair tax. I live in a (relatively) new build 2 bedroom terrace and my house is banded 2 bands higher than the older houses just down the road to me that are much bigger and worth much more. Apparently our houses have all been re-banded whereas the older properties have not. How can that be fair?

I do have a good memory durhamjen and I too would be surprised if you didn't post on this forum about Labour before Corbyn became leader but that was not the point raised was it!

I said you have posted about ' returning ' to Labour because of Corbyn and Labour going to the left again (I see it as far left but that seems to cause angst for some).

I have pointed to the fact you have said on more than one thread you 'know nothing about MOMENTUM ' yet you have posted about MOMENTUM .

If you did not post making statements, challenging what others say by making it personal to you then nobody would remark on what you say would they.

I agree gillybob there is absolutely nothing fair at all about the council tax, just like the rates. MT's attempt to do something about the rates through the 'poll tax' was equally flawed in a different way. I don't think the two main parties have the political courage to reform it - the Libdems used to have a policy of local income tax as an alternative which ticks a lot more of the 'fairness' boxes - do they still have that?

No doubt I could find posts that would tell me but I am not as interested in Anniebach as others appear to be.

I have been battling on about Momentum on Gransnet since it was started and I do remember a post some months later where Anniebach did make openly a comment to me where she accepted that at one time she would argue with me and fight the corner for Corbyn but had come to realise in time she had taken a different view.

I also remember in a post when Momentum was mentioned at it's inception by a ' prolific poster ' I asked the question 'Who was behind it' . It quickly became known and subsequently there have been so many threads/posts that have discussed/debated/argued about Momentum. So many I wonder how some posters can say 'they no nothing about Momentum' especially when they have posted on the subject.

I don't know if they still have it maryeliza but it always seemed to me the only fair way to do it. The only time the value of a property can really be the basis of tax (should a government want it to be) is when you sell it or when it is transferred on death as that is the only time you could use the money from it to pay.

This was what they said for the last election Maryeliza.

I can't see anything relating to local income tax in it.

Unless one can post exactly what people have said POGS it is possible that memories are not always exact. This is part if the human condition

I change my views on Corbyn before the leadership challenge. Before the referendum campaign . Before traingate. Definitely when Chanel 4 news showed proof Corbyn had run a campaign from his home to get expelled militants back into the party and at that time I read he had invited IRA leaders to Westminster weeks after the Brighton bombing .

I definitely questioned Corbyn not campaigning during the referendum campaign and Dj you posted a list of the meetings he was attending, I checked with someone in the party and every meeting listed was organised by Momentum.

Chris Williamson is getting quite a few interviews these days and he is certainly the right man to be in a Corbyn/McDonnell Cabinet .

If you know him Tegan you would know his politics runs in line with left ( far left?) thinking and taxing those who are ' believed' to hold wealth in property is more than possible so there is little surprise really.

Perhaps ' all ' parties are thinking about it. Certainly raises the question once again about Land Value Tax or ' Labours Garden Tax' as it was dubbed at the last General Election.

He is a very forceful character isn't he and his position in the Shadow cabinet has certainly put a spotlight on what his views are from wanting Female only train carriages, Labour NEC Rule changes to his views on Venezuela. A staunch Corbyn man for sure.

Actually Search can be easy if you know what to look for and it is interesting to read 'old threads' as they are are often pertinent to what is being discussed at a later time line.

It is like reading a book or a film. You remember key players and topics that interest you.

I must admit I do find it frustrating when posters say something about themselves that is easily proven to be shall I say ' misguided' and if and when they do so to try and prove a point by using this ploy I dislike this form of tactic.

I know some posters have declared they do not understand what I mean when I say ' You say it, you own it'.

Anniebach certainly has a set of posters who seem to remember her words / her opinions so I assume they are capable of holding information in their heads about other posters too.

I admit I would / do quote old posts but only to give accuracy or to show a factual point most of the time. I also will do it when challenged by posters to to do so. Ironically they then don't like to be remembered of what they once said.

Not as strange as the 'damning of the Conservative party quotes' which appear in quick succession on political threads. URLs galore !! One for any point of interest, churned out with regularity.

It makes one think that some left wing posters must spend all day scouring the Guardian and other biased to the left publications.

That, or we've been infiltrated by Labour HQ/Momentum. There's a thought.

I did post on a site that had a watcher-in-chief from the far left in it's midst. I don't think he slept, so keen was he to promote Labour and issue anti-government propaganda.

I suspect he and his side-kicks are with us too, grandparents or not.

Thanks GG - I believe some Scandinavian countries have forms of land/wealth tax. I can see that this might encourage a different and more helpful type of investment strategy which might mean more job creation

Actually Day I think there's a huge difference between posting links to articles from wherever which you are at perfect liberty not to click on ( who knew?) and posting long rambling posts drawing on GN archives and minute textual analysis. This is an active online forum - views will change and evolve not always consistently, logically or coherently but posts are not a contribution to a PhD thesis

Good post mary my feelings exactly, which is why I gloss over those sort of mind stulifying posts
