A quote from an article by Nick Cohen in Saturday's (I think) Guardian

My phone isn't letting me do links - sorry! But try googling it if you are interested.

Was that Owen Jones on the platform?

whitewave Mon 25-Sept-17 15:04:05

Yes

durhamjen Mon 25-Sept-17 15:51:40

Just watching Khan talking about the emergency services, while reading that Durham will have to get rid of 12 police officers because of a derisory pay rise which will not be funded.

whitewave Mon 25-Sept-17 15:59:30

Just come in from the garden so missed Khan - bum.

Scottish MSP on now listing the seats they won back.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 25-Sept-17 16:03:55

He's been doing a lot of work out in the country where seats look like ones that could be taken - Owen Jones that is.

whitewave Mon 25-Sept-17 16:38:07

They all seem to work incredibly hard

paddyann Mon 25-Sept-17 20:10:27

did the Scottish MP correct Sadiq Khan who said only LONDON voted remain......EVERY region in Scotland voted remain with 62% of the overall vote.He and Corbyn should get together and see how much more misinformation on Scotland they can peddle

lemongrove Mon 25-Sept-17 20:16:13

Tbh paddyann am not sure how much both men know about England never mind Scotland, as both are so London centric.

CBI says that nationalisation plans will send investors running for the hills.
Good.

When did Owen Jones change his mind on Europe.
Only two years ago he was positioning himself as a 'Lexiter'
Meaning, someone on the left who wants to leave Europe.

Anniebach Mon 25-Sept-17 21:44:13

Owen Jones changes his views on Corbyn as the fancy takes him.

durhamjen Mon 25-Sept-17 21:53:43

No he didn't. He campaigned for remain.

trisher Mon 25-Sept-17 22:01:23

He was a Remainer but accepted the EU vote-here's why

durhamjen Mon 25-Sept-17 22:06:44

I agree with him about it being about immigration and xenophobia.

petra Mon 25-Sept-17 22:11:21

So is he telling the truth now, or was he telling the truth in his Guardian article (July 2015) where he was scathing in his view of the eu.

durhamjen Mon 25-Sept-17 22:28:36

Having a reasoned debate about Brexit is impossible. That’s not because of the large majority of people in Britain, irrespective of how they voted. It’s because of a vocal but unrepresentative minority of Remainers and Leavers who are intolerant of political disagreement and believe that dissenters (even those who voted the same way as them) are threats to Britain, either by destroying the economy or surrendering sovereignty.

Paul Mason tweeted " I really advise my colleagues in the politicle press corps to listen to the conference. It's a breath of fresh air and reminds me of the 1980s
JK Rowling replied " Which aspect of 1980 in particular, I wonder? Space invaders, stone washed denim, Ashes to Ashes, or * the 17 years of Tory rule that followed*

A bit like some posters. Perhaps it's a normal reaction to believing you have more information or does that only apply to you AB?

Anniebach Tue 26-Sept-17 09:17:04

Guaranteed to lift the level of discussion as usual

whitewave Tue 26-Sept-17 09:23:02

As a passing remark. I see that UKIP is if possible going even further to the right and copying the AFD in that it is beginning to form itself as an anti-Muslim party.

Farage and Banks are considering forming a news party. Wonder what that will represent?

whitewave Tue 26-Sept-17 09:23:47

New!!! Certainly not news unless it's fake grin

trisher Tue 26-Sept-17 10:53:13

petra just because you criticise something and think it is badly run it doesn't mean you want to leave the organisation (as Annie has often explained) just that you want to see it reorganised. Owen Jones had very good reasons for voting Remain, but accepted the vote. It isn't changing your mind simply believing in democracy.

Smileless2012 Tue 26-Sept-17 11:09:00

confusedbut it's been posted several times on the political threads that a democracy isn't a democracy unless it's prepared to change it's mind, so which is it?

devongirl Tue 26-Sept-17 11:16:22

smileless yes surely that should be possible; not clear what the point are you agreeing with trisher?
