Let's not forget Brexit

I still feel that Brexit is wrong though have no idea how stop it. We get mixed messages on the negotiations, DD says that are going fine but the EU side says otherwise.

There was a protest in Manchester where Lib. Dems., European Movement. Open Britain and other groups made their feelings clear.

Our democracy and standard of living is under threat from dogmatism on both the left and the right.

Just seen this in the Telegraph.

The U.K. has been found to be £490bn poorer than it thought.

It no longer has any accumulation of any foreign assets, and our foreign investment position has collapsed.

Seems that we are absolutely stoned broke.

Glad the Tories are so good at managing the economyconfused

I'm sure the DUP will help us out!

I see threads like this as go to places for information,

In which case some of us might find this very useful:

Brexit Fact-base

Our objective is to share politically neutral information. The fact-base covers a range of topics to aid your understanding of current issues. It uses reputable secondary sources such as House of Lords, House of Commons, Office of National Statistics (ONS), think tanks and industry bodies.

I suggest that some Leavers look at the sovereignty section...

Just seen this in the Telegraph.

The U.K. has been found to be £490bn poorer than it thought.

According to the financial editor of the FT, on twitter this morning, this is old news. It relates to a revision of figures by the Office of National Statistics and has nothing to do with Brexit

Read the thread here:

I can't say that I can feel as comfortable as he clearly does with a downward revision of £490billion...

whitewave Mon 16-Oct-17 16:49:23

Exactly so old news of 2weeks! At £490bn down this is hardly old news after just 2 weeks. Don’t suppose for one minute it has got any better.

We are done for.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 16-Oct-17 17:30:29

You have to wonder why we haven't heard more about this. Isn't it that important or are vested interests trying to hide it?

durhamjen Mon 16-Oct-17 17:37:48

Two tweets.
"Why didn't you report this two weeks ago?"

"We weren't desperate to get rid of Hammond two weeks ago."

durhamjen Mon 16-Oct-17 17:54:16

This could be why we haven't heard of it. MSM wanted to keep the lie of Tory economic literacy going.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 16-Oct-17 18:35:19

I think it means I should panic but panic slowlyshock

The Tory party may want to keep the lie of Tory economic literacy going but much of the Thatcher era -held high particularly by the free-market capitalists - is now history and being reviewed as that and it isn't showing up well.

It would pay the Tories to remember that everyone in Russia felt that communism was their saviour and, indeed, the extremely poor did have slightly better lives - but that fell apart didn't it. Any system that is not nimble will always go into decline and, sadly, I do not get a picture of nimble Tories.

durhamjen Mon 16-Oct-17 19:14:03

Is all your local news about the closure of the pits in the 90s , and Heseltine saying that the pit villages are doing better than before, and have all recovered.?
A lot of ex-miners and their families in County Durham beg to differ and are doing so very vociferously. They say he's obviously never set fut in the county since.

whitewave Mon 16-Oct-17 19:16:53

I wonder what it actually means though.

I suspect that we are f——d.

What will happen?

jura2 Mon 16-Oct-17 20:06:27

getting scarier and scarier indeed

Cindersdad Mon 16-Oct-17 20:16:33

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/200004

This link is for a petition for a referendum on the final brexit deal. Already over 121,000 signatures. To be debated in parliament on the 11th December

petra Mon 16-Oct-17 20:32:49

durhamjen
What is a 'fut'

MaizieD Mon 16-Oct-17 20:56:28

It's an archaic North Eastern spelling of 'foot', Petra. wink

whitewave Mon 16-Oct-17 20:58:05

I thought everyone knew that maize

lemongrove Mon 16-Oct-17 21:14:14

You mean that durhamjen made a spelling mistake? No, surely not.??

lemongrove Mon 16-Oct-17 21:16:27

Perhaps dj you will be a little kinder in future about other posters making typos/ spelling mistakes etc.

lemongrove Mon 16-Oct-17 21:18:14

Interesting to hear Ken Clarke on radio 4 this morning, saying that he accepts that Brexit will happen.

durhamjen Mon 16-Oct-17 21:54:07

Comes from futile, as in resistance is...

lemongrove Mon 16-Oct-17 21:57:44

It certainly is, but the first time I have heard Ken Clarke say so.?

GracesGranMK2 Mon 16-Oct-17 22:36:35

If anyone thinks that a member of the Bexit cult is unlikely to sum up a minute interview with Ken Clarke objectively you may like to hear the whole interview here on Today It starts at 8:10 a.m. and lasts for just under 10 minutes

GracesGranMK2 Mon 16-Oct-17 22:38:15

a minute a ten minute

durhamjen Mon 16-Oct-17 22:46:17

Here's an interesting Osborne clip to listen to, as well.

twitter.com/EL4JC/status/920028051911663616

It took him a long time to admit that.
I wonder why now.

MaizieD Mon 16-Oct-17 22:47:53

Perhaps dj you will be a little kinder in future about other posters making typos/ spelling mistakes etc.

I doubt if dj is in the slightest bit concerned about a tiny spelling error. Certainly not enough to be upset if anyone makes fun of it.

And I don't think she has ever taken any lessons in manners from you, lemon, either now or in any of your previous incarnations. So why keep wasting your virtual breath?
