It seems that 1000 posts is the limit for a thread, so carrying on I have to commend Day6 for persistence though really cannot understand any of the reasons LEAVER have given.

Let's we get the full disclosure of the Brexit impact statements. I want to try to avoid repitition but we have probably said at one time or other everything to say about Brexit.

The bottom line is that we will be worse off outside the EU. Yes there fault with the EU but outside we can do nothing inside we have a say.

The referendum result was based on lies. The LEAVE campaign finances are not above suspicion.

I have just been watching Pat McFadden who is on the Brexit Select Committed. It was an interesting and measured interview in spite of Victoria Derbyshire's interview technique. You can see it here

gg yes that is exactly it!

I wouldn’t feel quite so worried if I thought that our government was any where near competent, but given that the general opinion that this is the least competent and weakest government since for ever, it makes it doubly worrying.

The tiny minority of brextremists are holding the country to ransoms.

Goodness know what history will make if this period.

I see Facebook has admitted that Russia meddled in the illegitimate referendum.

@peston

Tory rebels and labour will join forces to object to Tory plans to fix a Brexit date, regardless of whether we have finalised a trade deal etc.
We are governed by pigmies!

durhamjen Tue 14-Nov-17 16:32:31

Watching the debate now on parliament TV.
Kenneth Clarke was saying that he has been loyal to the Tory view on the EU for all these years until 18 months ago when the people voted. He's not the rebel.

whitewave Tue 14-Nov-17 16:36:18

Me to - watching that is

whitewave Tue 14-Nov-17 16:44:09

any Brexiters watching? I fervently hope so

whitewave Tue 14-Nov-17 16:50:28

Cash is poor isn’t he?

JessM Tue 14-Nov-17 16:53:14

The thing about the exact date for leaving, as I think Clarke has pointed out, is that if there were still a lot of really important unresolved issues - aviation for example - on the date, and the EU nations quite happy to extend the deadline, we'd still have to leave and planes would be grounded.
Damn stupid idea.

whitewave Tue 14-Nov-17 16:59:22

I can’t honestly see how it can be seriously considered

durhamjen Tue 14-Nov-17 17:01:56

Enjoying Cash trying to argue with Clarke.
I wonder if they will speak to each other outside the house.

Good point about nuclear deals.

I read today that legally if we leave without a deal, we will have no deals with any country other than those using WTO agreements, the whole one of them.
All other agreements are through the EU.

durhamjen Tue 14-Nov-17 17:10:00

Cash wants no amendments whatsoever?
He obviously sleeps through parliament.

mostlyharmless Tue 14-Nov-17 17:11:40

Dominic Grieve (Tory Remainer) said that Article 50 date could be extended if negotiations are not finished, so a set leaving date of March 2019 should not be stipulated in the Withdrawal Bill.
That made sense to me as a route to avoid a cliff edge Brexit.

The moment we leave the European Union, is the moment we fail as a nation.

durhamjen Tue 14-Nov-17 18:01:51

Redwood is telling lies and not taking interventions.

varian Tue 14-Nov-17 18:31:36

It does seem absurd that within hours of making a speech condemning Russia's interference in elections (eg as in the EU referendum) TM is trying to force through the will of Putin (disguised as the "will of the people" but actually the will of Putin and his billionaire press baron allies)

durhamjen Tue 14-Nov-17 18:40:02

Good point, varian.

Something else to be worried about.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 14-Nov-17 19:02:26

What a fascinating afternoon. Dominic Grieve was very impressive ex Attorney General for England and Wales and ex Advocate General for Northern Ireland.

mostlyharmless Tue 14-Nov-17 19:06:03

Yes I agree Dominic Grieve was impressive. I also thought Yvette Cooper was good.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 14-Nov-17 19:11:24

She was mostly but there are some really good people in the LP at the moment. On the other hand it is rare to see a Tory who isn't an also ran these days so I was more impressed by the contrast. Pigmies and giants come to mind.

Can someone explain what has happened with the current vote?

durhamjen Tue 14-Nov-17 19:21:36

They have just voted for the European Communities Act to be repealed on exit day.

durhamjen Tue 14-Nov-17 19:23:20

I have the Guardian rolling news on as they put it in real words for us not just commons jargon.

The two Chrises have been good today, too, Leslie and Bryant.

bmacca Tue 14-Nov-17 19:28:01

I was at an event with Gordon Brown yesterday and he made some interesting comments. His view is that by next summer it will be patently evident that Brexit will leave the U.K. isolated and facing dire financial consequences; he said that coupled with no solution to the problem of an Irish border, it will be obvious that we need to remain in the EU. He said he thought this view would be accepted by the Labour Party.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 14-Nov-17 19:29:44

So, the last to votes were not backed by the LP front bench - they abstained -and the vote on the date is not until day 6 (?).

GracesGranMK2 Tue 14-Nov-17 19:31:13

He had a really long interview on Today the other day bmacca and was making a lot of sense.
