Why hasn't she been sacked already? She goes in holiday, holds 10 meetings with a range of senior figures, including BN without telling the FO and even worse, suggesting that BJ knew about it in advance. Downing Street says she has been reminded ' of the obligations which exist under the ministerial code ' -oh you mean doing what you want in foreign countries and then lying about it?

Do you think TM is implicated? If anyone is it will be the arch liar BJ. TW obviously wants to find something that implicates TM but will he?

Penny Mordaunt is replacing Priti Patel.

maryeliza54 Thu 09-Nov-17 14:45:25

Well there you go - the most important thing is to keep the Brexit balance

GracesGranMK2 Thu 09-Nov-17 14:47:47

She seems to have quite a bit of experience but she will need to be replaced.

When receiving The Spectator magazine's Parliamentarian of the Year award in November 2014, Mordaunt revealed that she had delivered a speech in the House of Commons just before the Easter recess in 2013 on poultry welfare so as to use the word "cock", as a forfeit for a misdemeanour during Naval Reserve training.[25][26] Mordaunt used the word “cock” six times and “lay” or “laid” five times. Following her admission, she was accused by Labour MP Kate Hoey of trivialising parliament.[27]

Oh goody we’ve got another grown-up in the cabinet. She and Boris should get on well -FFS

Didn't BoJo use the Spectator as a vehicle for telling everyone lies about the EU [straight bananas etc]?

durhamjen Thu 09-Nov-17 17:36:16

When Penny Mordaunt was armed forces minister, she said that no UK PM could veto Turkey's accession to the EU.
I wonder if she has been retrained.

durhamjen Thu 09-Nov-17 19:43:25

Have any of you met anyone famous on your holidays?

Jalima1108 Thu 09-Nov-17 19:45:48

Do you mean famous as in film star famous or boring famous like a politician?

durhamjen Thu 09-Nov-17 19:56:53

Anyone you like. Have a look at the voxpolitical link if you want inspiration- and if you can bring yourself to!
It is quite funny, and nothing to do woth voxpolitical. They just came across it, like I did.

durhamjen Thu 09-Nov-17 19:59:05

It starts off with Mark Steel bumping into Menachim Begin in Bognor.

Tegan2 Thu 09-Nov-17 20:13:11

I bumped into Miriam Stoppard when I'd taken a short cut home in Northumberland through a wooded area as I was bursting for the loo and wanted a tree/bush to crouch behind [does that count?].

durhamjen Thu 09-Nov-17 20:26:55

Brilliant, Tegan. Just what's wanted.
We did the same with Chris Packham at the Sage - in too much of a hurry to get to the loo to do other than notice he was there. He'd gone when we came out.
We weren't on holiday, though, like Priti Patel when she bumped into all those Israeli politicians.

lemongrove Thu 09-Nov-17 21:45:54

Penny Mordaunt is a good choice smile and will do a better job than Patel all round IMHO.

Tegan2 Thu 09-Nov-17 21:56:18

..it was such a relief to have bumped into a 'celeb' who would understand my predicament..blush,,,

durhamjen Thu 09-Nov-17 22:12:40

Did you have to explain?
"Sorry, I'd love to chat, but...."

maryeliza54 Thu 09-Nov-17 23:35:51

Talk about damning with faint praise lemon

Penny Mordaunt grin another whose ambitions outstrip her abilities.

maryeliza54 Fri 10-Nov-17 07:37:48

It’s just so reassuring isn’t it that in addition to the oh-so-funny cock speech, she also made the House laugh - oh how they laughed - by using the words testicles and penis in a speech. She really likes to be one of the lads - I suppose it’s the RN thing.

whitewave Fri 10-Nov-17 08:03:31

She likes to lie as well

eazybee Fri 10-Nov-17 08:30:06

My sources? Same as everyone else: a range of television, radio and newspaper reports; occasional research via the internet, a political discussion group of all persuasions, all viewed with some cynicism and some common sense.

MaizieD Fri 10-Nov-17 09:22:44

I think you've responded on the wrong thead eazybee

But; it's always useful if people link to their sources as it gives others a chance to check them.

whitewave Fri 10-Nov-17 09:51:39

The Independent reports that Mordaunts main qualification for the job is that she is a Brexiter.

It certainly comes to something when a job absolutely not related to Brexit and whose incumbent one would like to see with particular qualities, is being filled by someone like Mordaunt.

Here's a source for thinking that we shouldn't cite the Daily Mail for anything. I wonder if it's required reading for Priti and Penny.
