When is she going to fire him? (Boris)

Boris may have caused a British Iranian woman’s sentence in Iran to be doubled to 10 years by something Liam Fox calls ‘ a slip of the tongue’.The woman was on holiday with her family in Iran when she was accused of spying. Johnson said she was there teaching journalism which the Iranian authorities leapt on as spreading propaganda. I don’t think May will give him the boot. She fears him too much to let him loose. Meanwhile, the UK, and this poor woman, have to endure the repercussions of his ‘slips of the tongue’.

Boris is a lazy incompetent with no interest in detail which is why he makes so many gaffes. May keeps him on because she knows he would be more of a threat to her on the back benches. They are all self serving, this government wil possibly go down as the worst government in post war history. Boris sees himself as a Churchill - but he’s more like Churchill the dog than the politician.

And all this at the same time as Brexit. What a disaster it all is.

Thanks, Elrel. Signed

GracesGranMK2 Sun 12-Nov-17 09:25:59

Thanks Elrel - it did and I have signed.

It started before Brexit, whitewave.
If Cameron's government had cared, she could have been home before Boris became foreign minister.

durhamjen Sun 12-Nov-17 09:54:53

Gove thinks Boris is doing a good job as foreign secretary!
Heaven help us.
He is also doing just what Richard Ratcliffe didn't want them to do, and criticising Iran.
So heaven help Nazanin.

Jen, you do know that the press regulator IPSO has ruled that skwawkbox creates fake news stories?

This is the man that Johnson says he hasn't met.

durhamjen Sun 12-Nov-17 14:51:20

IPSO, independent press regulator with Trevor Kavanagh on the board? Is that the one you meant, primrose, the independent regulator run by a former political editor of the Sun who regularly writes anti-muslim articles?

Luckygirl Sun 12-Nov-17 14:59:04

It all makes my heart sink. The Brexit negotiations are the most important thing at present and the cabinet is tottering and fragmented just when it needs to be strong.

TBH it is all quite embarrassing - I think we are a laughing stock.

Primrose65 Sun 12-Nov-17 15:03:58

That's the one I meant. Do you have a problem with the 11 other board members? Or any of the complaints committee, who actually deal with the rulings? Just because you don't like one board member, doesn't mean fake news is not fake news.

durhamjen Sun 12-Nov-17 15:25:03

Primrose, the video is from the House of Commons. I don't think that could be fake news, do you?

Primrose65 Sun 12-Nov-17 15:39:50

I don't bother with any links from sites that willfully spread fake news. It's the words that are usually the problem, Jen.

durhamjen Sun 12-Nov-17 16:23:44

That's okay. I don't bother with the Sun or the Daily Mail, either.
None of the papers I read are members of IPSO, not the Guardian, Observer, the i or the Financial Times.
Tells me a lot that you think IPSO, and therefore, the Sun and Daily Mail, more important than the House of Commons.

durhamjen Sun 12-Nov-17 16:26:37

"Wikipedia editors have voted to ban the Daily Mail as a source for the website in all but exceptional circumstances after deeming the news group “generally unreliable”.

The move is highly unusual for the online encyclopaedia, which rarely puts in place a blanket ban on publications and which still allows links to sources such as Kremlin backed news organisation Russia Today, and Fox News, both of which have raised concern among editors.

The editors described the arguments for a ban as “centred on the Daily Mail’s reputation for poor fact checking, sensationalism and flat-out fabrication”. "

Who made up the fake news that Nazanin was training journalists?

Primrose65 Sun 12-Nov-17 16:36:51

Ipso was set up in 2014 by some UK national newspapers in response to calls for a tougher system of self-regulation following Lord Justice Leveson’s 2012 inquiry into phone hacking. According to the FT, anyway.
It's really got nothing to do with what I think is important!

durhamjen Sun 12-Nov-17 16:43:16

But it's NOT independent, is it?

Ilovecheese Sun 12-Nov-17 18:58:14

I just watched the video from the House of Commons. I thought Boris Johnson was supposed to be charming? Why wont he just say that he is sorry that he was mistaken. I think he has realised that his ambition to be PM is not likely to happen now.

durhamjen Sun 12-Nov-17 19:02:36

Even Gove today was not on message. He said he didn't know why she was in Iran. He must be the only person in the country who doesn't.
Andrew Marr was bemused and told him that her husband said she was on holiday visiting her family; Gove then decided he ought to be family friendly, before saying he thought Boris was doing a good job in the foreign office.
So that's two of them lost support, I hope.

durhamjen Sun 12-Nov-17 21:00:47

They have to get her out of Iran.
