Corbyns unknown peace prize was in the Mail today apparently. He joins a long list of people awarded peace prizes you've never heard of. Like the Confucius Peace Prize won by Mugabe.
I think we can safely rule out Portugal as a model for any other country to follow then.
I really do think some of you have a problem with the difference between Social Democracy - sometimes called Socialism - and Communism - sometimes called Revolutionary Socialism or simply Socialism. It isn't simple so those who don't get it do have my sympathy. Those who are interested in Social Democracy know what they want and it isn't Communism. As Trump would say, that is just fake news.
Now for often asked question - which countries have social democracy? I am really surprised people have to ask but this may help.
Social Democracies. A new report released by the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) shows that happiness levels are highest in northern European countries. Denmark, Finland and the Netherlands rated at the top of the list, ranking first, second and third, respectively.
I quite like the idea of our country - as many people as possible - joining the ones with high happiness levels.
Well, Madeira is lovely but it is an autonomous region.
Well, I was going to mention Social Democracy ..... so glad you have explained it to us, Gracesgran
I quite like the idea of our country - as many people as possible - joining the ones with high happiness levels.
So happy that they can't afford to live there and leave in their thousands?
Now that you mention it Jalima I would like another holiday in Madeira, I could live on their bananas and little custard tarts, yum!
Their bananas that the EU didn't want?
Have some madeira m'dear
Yes, the very same.We were told about their bananas and the problems with the EU when we stayed there. They are really nice, with a good flavour too.
How kind! Thank you m’dear.

What was the degree angle of their bend lemon? Are they "free from malformation or abnormal curvature".
Haha, they are small certainly ( and bendy).
They are a different type of banana, a little 'lady finger banana' I think which are a rather niche market.
Commission Regulation (EC) No. 2257/94 was the regulation that decimated the banana industry on Madeira.
The main provisions of the regulation were that bananas sold as unripened, green bananas should be green and unripened, firm and intact, fit for human consumption, not "affected by rotting", clean, free of pests and damage from pests, free from deformation or abnormal curvature, free from bruising, free of any foreign smell or taste. The minimum size (with tolerances and exceptions) is a length of 14 cm and a thickness (grade) of 2.7 cm.
Many of the bananas that grow on the island of Madeira don’t grow up to EU standards, and thus can not be exported out of Portugal.
So mainland Portugal can still enjoy these sweet bananas.
Despite the stories put out by certain journalists about 'bendy bananas', some of it is actually true.
And the rest of us have to buy bananas imported from outside the EU!
So happy that they can't afford to live there and leave in their thousands?
And your proof for this statement is ...?
"Portugal has the second highest rate of emigration in the EU. There are more than 2.3 million Portuguese living outside the country. According to data gathered in the most recent report from the Emigration Observatory, Portugal has the second highest emigrated population in the EU, behind Malta.24 Feb 2017" Source: Algarve Daily News Feb 2017
Here's a report which may enlighten; it is two years old so I don't know how much has changed since then:
Portugal is today the European Union country with the highest emigration in proportion of its population.
portuguese-american-journal.com/report-portuguese-lost-20-of-active-population-to-migration-portugal/
I have just found a more up-to-date one:
algarvedailynews.com/news/11125-portugal-has-the-second-highest-rate-of-emigration-in-the-eu
Hope this helps.
Now that you mention it Jalima I would like another holiday in Madeira, I could live on their bananas and little custard tarts, yum!
Weren't you the one who had a go at me for talking about the LP rather than actually mentioning Corbyn? I see a much blacker pot going on here. So where - according to the rules a couple of you tried to insist on - is either Corbyn or inertia in this triviality.
(GNHQ. Should this post be reported I can flag up the previous post relating to the dictatorial way I was addressed re what a couple of posters considered going off thread - please just email)
"Portugal is today the European Union country with the highest emigration in proportion of its population. There are more than two million Portuguese emigrants, meaning more than 20% of the Portuguese population lives outside the country of their birth. Over recent decades, the growth in the number of Portuguese emigrants has been greater than the growth of the resident population in Portugal. Around 110,000 Portuguese left the country in 2013 alone.

Me having a go at you?
I don't think I did.
Threads do meander, sorry, we will get back to Corbyn's Inertia.
I hope he has had a lovely holiday in Mexico and will come back refreshed and raring to get on.
Jalima
And that's just one tiny bit of madness that's the eu.
Is it the talk of Portuguese economics or their bananas that you find trivial GracesgranMK2 ? Because the mention of Portugal was first raised by Durhamjen at 16.28 and the discussion has continued since then. If it's the bananas, they've only been on 4 posts.
I am still waiting for something that tells me that So happy that they can't afford to live there and leave in their thousands? is not fake Chewbacca.
As I posted on another thread (is that allowed?) we played a game at Christmas - what or who am I?
I was a banana.
Anyway, back to Portugal - or was it Corbyn?
I forget. Must check.
Corbyn. Does he grow bananas on his allotment - does anyone know?
Fake?
So the extracts from Portuguese and American press don't do it for you GracesgranMK2? Ok.
