Corbyns unknown peace prize was in the Mail today apparently. He joins a long list of people awarded peace prizes you've never heard of. Like the Confucius Peace Prize won by Mugabe.

I don't recall either Corbyn or McDonnell saying they are Democratic Socialists GG, where is your evidence that they are?
Happy to post the videos of them saying they're Marxists, and McDonnell calling for an insurrection.

whitewave Mon 08-Jan-18 20:39:14

Go on then

GracesGranMK2 Mon 08-Jan-18 20:43:43

Still not seen a single policy that an alternative LP would offer.

I'm not really interested in Tory's who don't want some of us to talk about the Labour Party and it's policies and think it okay to tell other members to go elsewhere.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 08-Jan-18 20:55:11

They are members of the Labour Party, Primrose. This party was always a 'socialist' party and before 1995, Clause IV of the Labour constitution entrenched its socialist values:

“To secure for the workers by hand or by brain the full fruits of their industry and the most equitable distribution thereof that may be possible upon the basis of the common ownership of the means of production, distribution and exchange, and the best obtainable system of popular administration and control of each industry or service.”

On becoming leader Tony Blair changed this. It was agreed by the Labour Party at a special conference in Easter 1995 after a debate that is would become:

“The Labour Party is a democratic socialist party. It believes that by the strength of our common endeavour we achieve more than we achieve alone, so as to create for each of us the means to realise our true potential and for all of us a community in which power, wealth and opportunity are in the hands of the many, not the few, where the rights we enjoy reflect the duties we owe, and where we live together, freely, in a spirit of solidarity, tolerance and respect.”

So now, the Labour party is less socialist. “Social democrats” are usually how more centrist left wing politicians in western democracies are described – and how most Labour MPs would identify. But Corbyn and his allies often use the description: “democratic socialist”.

Ref: New Statesman.

Bridgeit Mon 08-Jan-18 21:04:32

Well it seems like that can't even be achieved on Gransnet, so not much hope for the Labour Party , we don't seem to have much in the way of tolerance & respect for each other ! ?

GracesGranMK2 Mon 08-Jan-18 21:23:20

What are you talking about Bridgeit?

Anniebach Mon 08-Jan-18 21:39:26

Another thing which shows Corbyn is a hypocrite, he condemned May for not taking part in a tv debate, the same Corbyn who refused to take part in tv debates during the referendum campaign

lemongrove Mon 08-Jan-18 21:40:08

The very left wing grans have deserted the Tory thread for this one, that’s fine if they enjoy reading our thoughts on Corbyn and shows that this thread is more entertaining than theirs.grin
They are now attempting a ‘takeover’ by bombing this thread with spreading messages of how wonderful their great leader really is.Well, you know what....he isn’t!
Now, nobody on here has to say what policies exactly they want to see, Labour are not in power and won’t be for the foreseeable future. If they ever are ( under The Great High Leek) then that will be the time to talk about policies.
What we do know however, is that in the five years he and his friends are in power the country would be in Unbelievable debt and the unions calling the shots.
Many of his manifesto promises are pie in the sky and he would call them aspirations anyway.
He is a weak and ineffectual man who is being propped up.

trisher Mon 08-Jan-18 21:45:03

Oh not that old hackneyed complaint again. This is so silly. If something is explained to you and you refuse to recognise the explanation does that mean that the explanation isn't true or simply that you are being dogmatic and unreasonable? I think the latter. However if you want to post about things that happened you could at least acknowledge an explanation was given (unless of course you aren't interested in giving facts only a very biased opinion)

trisher Mon 08-Jan-18 21:52:39

No body (except the people who are decrying him) has said Corbyn is wonderful. They have pointed out that he is the elected leader of the Labour Party. They have asked what policies people disagreed with and what policies they would like to see. Meantime the anti- Corbyn crowd continue to spew out unfounded and unsupported opinion as if it were fact. It's just infantile. If you have to spout rubbish try spending some time looking for quotes to support your far fetched comments.

jura2 Mon 08-Jan-18 21:54:50

He is a weak and ineffectual man who is being propped up.

add a few 's' and a 'wo'

Bridgeit Mon 08-Jan-18 21:56:08

GG! When we have discussions with people we know ,or if we are face to face with someone else, we read each others body language etc. When we reply to each other on media sites we don't have the same level of information about that person, which allows People to be rude,or belittling, or for us to take offence more readily etc etc, hence my thread about anonymity . Of course not everyone is like this , but if someone is a public speaker teacher, magistrate ,or on discussion panels for example then what they view as a robust discussion, could on a site such as this be taken as a personal attack which can be damaging or critical to another person who could be very low on self esteem, or is not use to offering up an opinion & having it severely criticised or belittled. And sometimes we are just downright rude to each other , which then kills the topic. It would be beholden of us all ( & I am as guilty as the next) to perhaps remember this.

trisher Mon 08-Jan-18 22:01:16

Nice one jura2 took me a minute to get it! grin

lemongrove Mon 08-Jan-18 22:02:33

You may not think he is wonderful trisher but some posters undoubtably think that he is.
Yes, he is the elected leader, and that is the best thing I can say about him.

trisher Mon 08-Jan-18 22:26:33

Post examples of someone saying he is wonderful lemongrove if there are any!!

durhamjen Mon 08-Jan-18 22:27:45

"Corbyn self-identifies as a democratic socialist.[1] He advocates reversing austerity cuts to public services and welfare funding made since 2010, and proposes renationalisation of public utilities and the railways.[2] A longstanding anti-war and anti-nuclear activist, he supports a foreign policy of military non-interventionism and unilateral nuclear disarmament.[3]"

GracesGranMK2 Mon 08-Jan-18 22:29:53

I still don't know what you are talking about Bridgeit. It sounds as if it intends to be insulting but I can't even take umbrage because it just doesn't make sense - lot's of illusion and very little substance.

Don't worry about it. I don't think I could cope with a third attempt at an explanation.

lemongrove Mon 08-Jan-18 22:34:39

Don’t worry Bridgeit others know what you are advocating, a kind thought from you.

Bridgeit Mon 08-Jan-18 22:35:25

Ahh well never mind GG - could have been a marriage made in heaven .

durhamjen Mon 08-Jan-18 22:35:53

Lemon, some of us are clever enough to read two political threads, or even three.

Bridgeit Mon 08-Jan-18 22:36:59

Ahh thank you Lemongrove, much appreciated, yes I think I will stop the self harming now ?

lemongrove Mon 08-Jan-18 22:38:35

trisher nobody would dare say ( on this thread) that Corbyn is wonderful grin but perhaps some poster will prove me wrong.
It’s clear from previous threads on GN that a (very) few do
Think him wonderful though, and maybe they will be brave enough to say it?

durhamjen Mon 08-Jan-18 22:43:29

Corbyn is wonderful. Even some Tories think so.

videos.files.wordpress.com/N9punff4/bridgen-corbyn-health1_hd.mp4

GracesGranMK2 Mon 08-Jan-18 22:44:03

I think what the LP is proposing at the moment is interesting Lemons, and much more to my taste than anything I have heard for years. I don't think any one man (except members of my family) is wonderful.

So who does Lemons? You throw this accusation out as if it was a truth for which you have proof so name one member of this forum who fits these childish accusations.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 08-Jan-18 22:47:18

That's just a weird Tory Jen. I am not sure Corbyn would want him to think he is wonderful. Why is Corbyn attending A & E?
