I think that in the long term trickle down has worked and still is doing on a global scale. I also think (factually, not excusing) there will always be "down and outs" because all human endeavours are imperfect so, try as we might, the system doesn't cover some "down and outs", as lemon said.

The fact that numbers in other European countries are equivalent is relevant.

Not all are homeless due to mental health issues or drug abuse. There are always cases of family breakdown, youngsters leaving home to escape abuse, etc. Established charities such as Centrepoint do a great job and I'd like to see them publicly funded.

Many EU citizens are still here because they have married a British citizen. I presume you count that as anathema, too.

Rough sleepers have gone up by 113% since 2010, so obviously there were rough sleepers when Labour were in power.

It's common sense actually but because it doesn't meet your agenda you refuse to see it 3.7m EU citizens who need somewhere to live so obviously rents have risen and we are short of housing stock especially in London. Perhaps some do contribute and pay taxes but that's besides the point they are taking up housing stock and pushing rents up.

Many Eastern Europeans are doing low paid jobs so not contributing much at all, but they all need to live somewhere, need to have their children in Schools and use the NHS.
Maybe some are living rough if out of work and don’t wish to return home.
That’s why we need to know, not just numbers but the reasons and who.

Simple economics, it's called supply and demand. If there's not enough of something the price goes up, whether it's a house or a sack of potatoes.

petra supply and demand can’t be used for the housing market in the U.K. because there are a number of variables which stop this happening. Land banks for one. Overseas wealthy investors for another. There are a number of factors.

EU residents didn't just arrive in 2010.
The ones I know have been here for at least twenty or thirty years.
The number of immigrants overall between 2010 and 2017 rose by 1.5 million.
But don't worry, it's going down now because of Brexit.

It isn’t numbers of immigrants that we need to know of per se, but who all the people are that are rough sleeping and why to seriously tackle this problem.

Successive governments have been abysmal when it comes to immigration over the years.

Rough sleepers - most are homegrown not migrants so why not try to tackle problems of addiction, mental health, housing policies etc not blame immigrants!

Solving problems of addiction are hellishly difficult, and
Mental health problems are much the same.
Addicts mainly don’t want to stop taking drugs, and anybody with mental health issues don’t want to be in institutions.
There are no easy answers.

Lemon, the government stopped collecting the statistics on where immigrants were living, and where all the rough sleepers and homeless were in 2012.
