More Brexit lunacy

£490 million wasted spent on changing the colour of our passports. Which we could have done at any time in the last 30 years. Burgundy wasn't obligatory; not every EU country has a burgundy passport.

How many more £millions is this futile Brexit exercise going to cost the UK?

Somewhat ironic that the new blue is very similar to the colour of the EU flag...

He is brainy, though.

When long-standing Tory donors like Peter Stringfellow finally jump from the sinking ship it should send a message to those who still cling to the belief in the brexit con.

I realised- but it was so funny ;)

GracesGranMK2 Thu 11-Jan-18 19:29:41

Farage picked up on the mood of those who don't usually vote last time - perhaps he has picked up on a change of mood. I don't think those who voted leave have changed their minds but I do think people can see it is not going to turn out how they were told it would.

whitewave Thu 11-Jan-18 19:36:59

Farage wants another referendum, it must mean that Farage is feeling in the need for publicity.

Jalima1108 Thu 11-Jan-18 19:37:50

I like Brain May, he's a very nice man.

whitewave Thu 11-Jan-18 19:41:25

I suspect that he’s hoping (Farage) that if we can have a second referendum soon than he can strike quickly before reality starts to bite

Tegan2 Thu 11-Jan-18 19:45:42

I just think he's totally narcissistic and relishes the thought of being back in the public eye again [given that Trump wouldn't give him a job].

MaizieD Thu 11-Jan-18 20:06:39

I wonder if it was anything Barnier said to him?

Has he done the maths, though? A considerable number of older Leave voters have died since June 2016 and a considerable number of the then 16 & 17 year olds will now be old enough to vote.

I very much doubt it will happen, to be honest...

whitewave Thu 11-Jan-18 20:20:08

Hmm the Independent is reporting that Banks is also calling for a second referendum.

I wouldn’t trust those two no further than I can throw them.

mostlyharmless Thu 11-Jan-18 21:45:53

Curioser and curiouser! The thread title is definitely very apt.

petra Thu 11-Jan-18 21:52:56

Protesters are burning the eu flag on the streets of Sofia this evening.

whitewave Thu 11-Jan-18 21:56:12

It happens quite regularly petra and is always the very far right. Not a pleasant group. I assume today is no different

GracesGranMK2 Thu 11-Jan-18 22:43:35

Wouldn't it actually be a third referendum?

durhamjen Thu 11-Jan-18 23:38:11

I assume you mean that the general election was the second referendum?

Jalima1108 Thu 11-Jan-18 23:39:57

confused
I only seem to have two fingers stuck up so far, not three

GracesGranMK2 Fri 12-Jan-18 00:07:08

No Jen. We had a referendum to join the other countries in the first place. Voting to leave was the second referendum.

durhamjen Fri 12-Jan-18 00:13:08

Oh, right. I thought you meant about Brexit. I understand now.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 12-Jan-18 00:58:38

That's why I think it's perfectly acceptable to have another referendum. We voted to join. Things changed and we had a referendum about how we now feel about that. We voted to leave. We then find out what that actually means which is, in itself another change. We vote on the choices the government has made available to us or not leaving. It makes sense to me.

whitewave Fri 12-Jan-18 07:31:17

I quite understand why people are calling for a second referendum.

However I have severe misgivings. In principle they sounded to me a very democratic way forward, but after the utter debacle of the last one, the way votes were bought by dark money, and the knowledge that the vote was won largely on ignorance has made me extremely sceptical.

The original 2016 vote should have been seen as guidance only for a sovereign parliament who we elect to represent us and govern the U.K.
in my opinion there would have been a much more balanced, thought through and honest approach to the issue, with parliament ensuring “checks and balance” as supposed to what we have ended up with which is a severely divided country, a parliament which is being side lined as far as possible by a government without power and being led by the nose by a tiny vociferous minority who care for nothing but their own self interest.

I think the only way forward is for parliament to realise its strength and act on it by ensuring each step of the way in the Brexit negotiation is scrutinised in detail and guidance given to government. If at the end parliament considers that if we continue with full Brexit it will be against the national interest then it must vote no or choose a path that is not so damaging.

Three QCs opinion along with the author of 5he Article Lord Kerr. All advise that A50 is revocable. Maybot is aware.

Of course we always knew it especially if you read the article.

Extremists will tell you otherwise and try to mislead you.

Umunna tweeted on Trump

......”a man who is not willing to come to this country and open his new Embassy, is never going to be willing to do a decent trade deal with the U.K.”

whitewave Fri 12-Jan-18 09:48:07

I see that the Times is reporting that Farage has changed his mind about a second referendum.

Well bully for him.

Farage is just trying to put himself back on the front pages. He has done so much damage to Britain already. He is making a very nice salary from the EU plus pension even though he doesn't attend.
He doesn't deserve the air time.
