More Brexit lunacy

£490 million wasted spent on changing the colour of our passports. Which we could have done at any time in the last 30 years. Burgundy wasn't obligatory; not every EU country has a burgundy passport.

How many more £millions is this futile Brexit exercise going to cost the UK?

Somewhat ironic that the new blue is very similar to the colour of the EU flag...

What don't you understand about the difference between THE and A, POGS?

mostlyharmless Wed 10-Jan-18 23:00:00

The Independent 9th January:

"MPs will be able to vote for Britain to rejoin the EU customs union after Brexit without further legislation, a minister has revealed.

The surprise admission delighted pro-EU MPs, but will alarm Brexiteers who will view it as a back door to remaining within the trading rules, despite EU withdrawal.

Ken Clarke, the former Conservative Cabinet minister and leading anti-Brexit rebel, said he was “considerably reassured” by what the Government was proposing."

Well that's a nice surprise!

Yes POGS this customs union thing is confusing. I too wish Corbyn's position was a bit clearer. It all sounds like Gobbledygook - you have to wade through treacle to make any sense out of it.
Being in the Customs Union is different from being in the single market though.
And "a" customs union means an individual agreement -more complicated and time consuming to sort out than staying in "the" Customs Union. (I'm not an expert on trade agreements, you and other Gransnetters might know more than I do - apologies if you do)

That's brilliant, mostlyharmless.
Best to keep quiet about it, though. Not that many voters will notice. Just been reading that 1 in 3 people have no idea what unuversal credit is.

durhamjen Wed 10-Jan-18 23:35:47

Corbyn doesn't need to make his position any clearer, particularly if what you say in your last posts is true.

mostlyharmless Wed 10-Jan-18 23:43:55

Well the Government obviously don't want anyone to know dj.

Not lunacy at all

Found on twitter and I think some of you might enjoy this. Tony Blair tears a strip off Farage at the EU parliament 2005

Comments are quite predictable but if you scroll down a little way there's an amusing troll teasing exchange grin

Have you heard that Nigel Farage is now calling for a second EU referendum when the terms of the deal are known?

I imagine his friends in the Leave camp are apoplectic. Tony Blair is delighted.

I think that it has to 'a' Customs Union, individually negotiated, because we're not contemplating joining the EEA or EFTA (but I could be wrong); and our membership of the Customs Union ends on Exit Day.

Nigel Farage warming to second EU referendum

Former UKIP leader Nigel Farage says he is close to backing a second EU referendum to end the "whinging and whining" of anti-Brexit campaigners.

Mr Farage told Channel 5's The Wright Stuff a fresh vote could "kill off" the Remain campaign for a generation.

Tegan2 Thu 11-Jan-18 13:31:24

Why does that man get so much tv coverage sad...

Devorgilla Thu 11-Jan-18 13:37:13

Farage is missing being in the limelight.

Tegan2 Thu 11-Jan-18 13:39:46

I should keep up to speed with what he's saying but I can't bear to see/hear the man angry. At least I get to hear what he's up to on here and facebook...

MaizieD Thu 11-Jan-18 15:22:25

It would have to be a campaign with no 'dark advertising', no Russian intervention and no dubious 'donations' designed to exceed spending limits... Otherwise we have the same problems all over again.

But Farage probably has Cambridge Analytica lined up already... just in case...

Oh, and no 'government' leaflets...

Tegan2 Thu 11-Jan-18 15:50:59

...no buses....

MaizieD Thu 11-Jan-18 15:58:37

Oh, I don't know..

How about a big red one with:

'We're paying £350 million a week to leave the EU. Lets give it to the NHS instead' written on the side...

jura2 Thu 11-Jan-18 16:30:41

Well I have to say I didn't expect THAT from Fartage?!?

Would he accept a 48/52 result, I wonder.

durhamjen Thu 11-Jan-18 16:53:15

Seven things that have changed since the last referendum.

I see Brian May has described Maybot as being driven by vanity and thirst for power, in an interview to a German publication. He went on to say that the vote to leave Europe was one of the dumbest things that the U.K. has ever done.

durhamjen Thu 11-Jan-18 19:14:21

That's what I thought when she announced her war on plastic waste. Why now?
Why not earlier?
Why do we need to lead the world?
We were in a better position in the EU, not out of it, to get rid of plastic waste.

Strange to think that Brain May and Peter Stringfellow are now singing from the same songsheet; who'd've thought a few years ago that politics would throw up such strange bedfellows...

jura2 Thu 11-Jan-18 19:20:21

LOL took me a few seconds ...

Brain May lol oh lol (got it now)

Tegan2 Thu 11-Jan-18 19:22:13

...I meant 'Brian' blush....fat finger syndrome again...
