More Brexit lunacy

£490 million wasted spent on changing the colour of our passports. Which we could have done at any time in the last 30 years. Burgundy wasn't obligatory; not every EU country has a burgundy passport.

How many more £millions is this futile Brexit exercise going to cost the UK?

Somewhat ironic that the new blue is very similar to the colour of the EU flag...

durhamjen Tue 23-Jan-18 15:49:53

In which case, you'll just have to go and see it again, Tegan, while forgetting about Boris.

infacts.org/hey-boris-best-bet-get-100m-nhs-cancel-brexit/

Boris lunacy, not just Brexit.

Adonis tweeted.

Farageism a pipulist politics which makes a pretence pf concern for the “ordinary bloke”, but in reality is deeply xenophobic and mysoginistic, scapegoating Europeans and foreigners for ills in reality caused by right wing neglect of the poor, fairness and social cohesion.

Campbell tweeted

Hard to overstate how low the reputation of U.K. leaders has fallen around the world. May - not up to it, Johnson- a joke. No clear alternative.

Tegan2 so pleased looking back through this thread to see your reference to "awful Isabel Oakeshott"; I've only had the misfortune to see her on Qestion Time, once, but it was enough for me to find her detestable and still memorable for that!

Tegan2 Tue 23-Jan-18 16:17:20

I can't bring myself to watch QT any more, so I am spared people like her....

jura2 Tue 23-Jan-18 16:19:51

humptydumpty - it was me lol. I keep trying to drop QT- especially here we are 1 hour ahead and I have to get up early on Friday ams to teach - but I still watch. My TV has come very close to serious damage a few times - and Ms Oakeshott or Melanie Phillips are the main culprits.

infacts.org/fewer-land-rovers-macron-poacher-thanks-brexiters/

Landrover reducing production.
Brexiteers will say it's nothing to do with Brexit, of course.

varian Tue 23-Jan-18 16:35:33

Isabel Oakeshott seems to be on The Daily Politics at least once a week and is forever appearing on the Sunday Politics, Andrew Marr's show etc.

Typical QT panel is usually 2 Tories, 2 LP, one another or show biz type, usually biased towards Brexit and never featuring anyone who is brave enough to suggest Brexit might not, or indeed should not happen.

Some of the audience members can be even more rabid than Isabel Oakshott.

Tegan2 Tue 23-Jan-18 17:13:35

Is it true that QT is linked to Breitbart in some way?

The European Movement is trying to protect the UK from the threatened damage of Brexit, which includes the effect of leaving Euratom. (I wonder how many of these angry Leavers have even heard of Euratom, let alone considered its importance to our NHS?). They say -

"Help Support our Action Day on Need to Stay in Euratom to Protect NHS – Saturday 27 January 2018.

Preparations are hotting up for our Action Day on Saturday 27 January, with more and more branches and supporters wanting to get involved. The Action Day will be highlighting how important it is to stay within the EU and Euratom, to protect our NHS.

Brexit has already had a damaging effect on the NHS, with a drop in EU applicants and staff affecting the workforce, as well as a severe winter crisis which has caused 68 NHS chiefs to sign a letter warning of long delays and risks for patients. If we leave Euratom, there is a risk that radiotherapy treatments for patients will be disrupted because of problems with the supply of medical isotopes.

If you would like to support our campaign this Saturday, find your local event here."

Tegan2 Tue 23-Jan-18 17:50:22

And the right wing press just say they're 'punishing' us for leaving, and brexiters are lapping it up....

durhamjen Tue 23-Jan-18 18:11:25

Did you watch the Euratom debate today, varian? It was very worrying that there was no impact assessment even on nuclear differences after leaving the EU.
The committee had asked for and expected one as it was so important.

I hope that no one on here is needing the particular cancer drugs ( or friends and family) as Hunt has today admitted that some European cancer drugs will not be available in the U.K. after Brexit.
I could not see a list of drugs involved but no doubt that will gradually surface.

MaizieD Tue 23-Jan-18 18:58:34

Here we go. So you think that the BBC is biased towards Brexit?

Try this twitter thread for size:

varian Tue 23-Jan-18 19:05:33

I do not accept the argument that if the BBC is accused of pro-brexit bias by sensible folk and accused of anti-brexit bias by folk like the commentators on that website (beyond description) that it proves that the BBC is neutral and unbiased. It does not.

durhamjen Tue 23-Jan-18 20:01:32

Did you see Daily Politics today?
Tory on it said that Boris's "picanninnies with watermelon smiles" was not racist, and he wasn't challenged on it by Jo Coburn.
George Freeman, I think it was.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 23-Jan-18 20:05:59

For those who like Jonathan Pie

It's time to stop inviting UKIP onto our TV

Thanks Jen.

I presume May wants her Ministry of truth, or fake news because of all the lies the Brexiteers tell. It can't be because of all the lies the Tories tell on their twitter account, can it?

Very 1984.

voxpoliticalonline.com/2018/01/22/whos-going-to-trust-theresa-may-to-tackle-fake-news-when-her-tories-are-responsible-for-so-much-of-it/

Better put this on now, as it might not be allowed next week.

durhamjen Wed 24-Jan-18 00:08:26

" Theresa May’s government is set to respond to the scourge of fake news with the creation of a “rapid response social media capability” in Whitehall itself.

Based in the Cabinet Office, the team will be tasked with dealing “quickly with disinformation” and reclaiming “a fact-based public debate”. "

Does this mean they are actually, at last, going to give us the true facts about Brexit?
If they don't can we take them to court?

durhamjen Wed 24-Jan-18 00:10:56

That photo, by the way, is of an Australian MP called Paul Scully. The real one was a bit older and balder. I wonder if it was just his head that CCHQ photoshopped. Or maybe the UK paul Scully wasn't there at all.

mostlyharmless Wed 24-Jan-18 10:22:29

I agree dj I couldn't believe that Jo Coburn didn't question that Boris's reference to "picanninies with watermelon smiles" wasn't racist!

mostlyharmless Wed 24-Jan-18 10:43:48

The right wing media has been putting out constant anti-EU propaganda for years - mostly fake news. It creates a drip drip effect on readers of the Mail, Sun, Telegraph, Express etc

Some examples from Tom Pride:
EU to ban double-decker buses
EC regulations to ban playgrounds
Children to be banned from blowing up balloons by EU rules
pets must be pressure-cooked after death
EU bans mince pies
Kilts to branded womenswear by EU
