More Brexit lunacy

£490 million wasted spent on changing the colour of our passports. Which we could have done at any time in the last 30 years. Burgundy wasn't obligatory; not every EU country has a burgundy passport.

How many more £millions is this futile Brexit exercise going to cost the UK?

Somewhat ironic that the new blue is very similar to the colour of the EU flag...

That's quite a list, mostlyharmless.
I like the .uk to be replaced by .eu considering that masses of domain names have .com which is American.

You do realise, of course, that Tom Pride will be removed as fake news, don't you?

Hmm. The Ministry of Truth wouldn't like it.
Orwell will be turning in his grave.

'Eurocrats say Santa must be a woman' is my candidate for the most ridiculous headline.

Which is yours?

mostlyharmless Wed 24-Jan-18 12:13:47

I think double decker buses to be banned - Daily Telegraph
Or perhaps British apple trees facing chop That makes a good headline! From The Times.

There are hundreds more. The EU has an alphabetical list of euromyths promulgated by our media since 1992, along with refutations

It's been posted here before...

Queen's corgis to be outlawed as well, poor things. On the other hand maybe they'll be happier somewhere else.

Kier Starmer tweeted

“The bickering between Davis and Mogg, is the starkest evidence yet that a transitional deal is far from secure under this government”

durhamjen Wed 24-Jan-18 16:49:52

Yes, I thought that was ridiculous.
Davis may not like Mogg, but really, to laugh at his questions in a committee is rather a stupid thing to do. It just engenders animosity, I would think.

varian Wed 24-Jan-18 17:39:32

It's hardly a question of liking these appalling brexiteers. I don't like Davis or Mogg.

durhamjen Wed 24-Jan-18 22:46:15

You'd think that they would try and get on, though, considering they are supposed to be on the same side.

The Brexit Burden has now reached a drop in GDP of 1.3% or the equivalent of £340 million a week.

It is clear that far from gaining as Johnson would like us to be fooled into believing the NHS will suffer as a result of the drop in tax revenue, almost entirely as a result of Brexit.

The NAO has written a report saying that Fox’s department for international trade is not fit for purpose.

Carney has talked about the Brexit burden become a real prospect, and can already be actually quantified.

GSK has estimated that 1700 of its products will be adversely financially affected by Brexit leaving less money for research.

“David Davis effectively told yesterday’s select committee that he spent the entire referendum campaign entirely ignorant of the ramifications of Brexit .”

Hammonds speech aligns very well with the CBI as apposed to Mogg’s

durhamjen Thu 25-Jan-18 18:57:58

"The Brexit Secretary had already dismissed his own claim – made in 2013 – that the UK should remain in the customs union after it leaves the EU.

“Basically I looked at the facts, and as the facts changed, I changed my mind,” said Davis as he defended the Government’s position of leaving the customs union.

He also claimed anyone who used the phrase “red lines” when going into a negotiation was an “idiot”. "

So all he needs is a few more facts and he could change his mind again. I wonder which facts he uses to make up his mind.

Faisal Islam tweeted

“Tory MPs say that there is a proxy battle between the CBI and the ERG which is really a battle in cabinet over Customs and alignment. On both sides MPs have urged outriders to make their case on one side or the other”

durhamjen Thu 25-Jan-18 19:15:01

“We are in the business of honouring the faith and trust that the British people put in us and the instruction to deliver on June 23 around the key red lines, which are: no contribution to the budget; no jurisdiction for the European Court of Justice; the end of free movement; and British laws being made in our sovereign Parliament.”

This was said at the 2016 Tory party conference by Davis's chief of staff. I wonder what Stewart Jackson thinks about being called an idiot. Maybe that's why he lost his seat last year to Labour.
He was sitting behind Davis when he said it.

David Davis's latest performance has shown him, again, to be absolutely and totally out of his depth - and on the verge of a break-down I'd say- the hysterical laugh says it all.

The whole comittee and room fell to silence, it was so beyond embarrassing and worrying.

Mark Carney on radio 4.

“The world economy has accelerated, and we in the U.K. haven’t seen that.”
He was arguing that his predictions on the Brexit Burden have proved correct.
The U.K. economy is 10s of billions weaker than it would have been.

There is now a 16 point lead for a vote on the final outcome.

Chuka Umunna tweeted

“As more and more facts become known about Brexit and its consequences, more and more voters are deciding that the promises that were made during the referendum are being broken.
Voters are making it clear that they want to keep their options open”

durhamjen Fri 26-Jan-18 18:34:12

We were reading in the i this morning about Rees Mogg yesterday, so my grandson asked me what we had voted for.
I managed to find the booklet from the government about the referendum, and no way did anyone vote on what Rees Mogg said, according to my grandson. We just voted on whether to remain in the EU or leave the EU, that's all. Anything else is just conjecture.
At least now we have a much better idea of what will happen if we leave, hence the call for another referendum.

Did you see DD on the news, he visited Middlesbrough today cracking jokes about Brexit and telling them how well things are going.
