Primrose 20% is a lot in any part of the UK. The problem is though that low priced housing has less profit, so builders don't choose to build it They build more expensive properties and are granted planning permission because they agree to sell a certain percentage of the development as affordable housing. Most of this affordable housing is still out of the reach of lower paid people.

Defining affordable housing as a percentage is a device that helps builders make more money and the government to create the perception that lots of affordable houses are being built. Affordable housing should be property priced below a set maximum based on local property prices.

Can we just put Momentum to one side for a moment?

Don't posters think that the reason why the Labour Party regained so many seats in last year's election is because Jeremy Corbyn was saying the right thing? The Labour Party lost 26 seats in the 2015 election and won 30 back last year.

Momentum is a grassroots organisation that has shaken up politics in the UK because it has groups communicating with local people. It's only got 35k members so those votes alone won't make much difference in an election.

I included a link to the Labour Party manifesto before. What do posters object to the most in that manifesto?

PS Doesn't it concern posters that our utilities and therefore the bulk of the infrastructure in the UK is owned or run by overseas companies?

POGS it's quite simple. Much of this thread is fantasy and conjecture based on a poster's beliefs- that isn't "knowledge". Knowledge needs a basis in fact and is not an opinion, prediction or diatribe which is all this thread is.
Take the NEC elections. All you know is that 3 members of Momentum were elected with massive majorities. What happens next one must wait and see.

If you can find any facts on this thread lemongrove I will apologise. I don't hate criticism of anything or anybody but I do like such criticism to have a basis in fact. The wonderful thing about the present government is that it continually messes up, so the facts are there for everyone to see.

No, Annie I do understand. But you are theorising about this, none of it has happened. I have no illusions that Momentum does not have people who are from the far left and used to stand around selling the Socialist Worker, but Momentum is not the Labour Party. Its not even getting its candidates on to selection lists, let alone getting them selected. To date only 7 out of the 29 seats have been won by candidates backed by Momentum and not all of the 7 are part of Momentum, they are local left wing candidates who have already been selected in the past.

I would rather read articles like this than the hyperbole on this thread

Yes it does. However, it has taken a very long time by successive governments to take us down this route which now appears to be reaching crisis point because it has all gone too far.
It would be impossible to take everythingback into public ownership and any politician who promises that is living in cloud cuckoo land.
However, it needs rational thought because some areas work well, if not better, run by the private sector and others should never have been de-nationalised and need to be taken back into public ownership.

In fact, these decisions are too enormous to be undertaken by dogmatic politics of any side.

I think exactly the same Jalima where the utilities are concerned.

Bringing everything back under government control (nationalisation) isn’t the all singing and dancing prospect that some seem to think.
