Good morning!

In the Daily Mail yesterday, a story quoted Jeremy Paxman saying that pensioners had 'betrayed young people' and that, as a result, over 65s shouldn't be allowed to vote.

He also said: ‘I think that my generation have behaved like spoilt children. And, like spoilt children, our response is “it’s not my fault”. It’s never our bloody fault.

‘Actually, it is, because we have failed to recognise the consequences of our behaviour.’

Here's the full story: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5370159/Ban-spoilt-elderly-voting-says-Jeremy-Paxman.html

We'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

Oh they don’t do it ‘legally’ Tegan they go against EU rules
Until presumably the EU huff and puff and deny the country money for projects, but by then, Bulgaria or Any other country, has done what they want to.

Tegan2 Thu 15-Feb-18 17:18:12

Can't we stay in the EU and just ignore them then? If others can.

lemongrove Thu 15-Feb-18 17:21:37

It's difficult to think of one of our current politicians who could qualify for the description "statesman".

I actually think that Theresa May had a golden opportunity to say "I wil stand up for what I believe. I do not regard the results of that advisory referendum, which was won by lies, as valid and so, as I have become Party Leader and Prime Minister, I will do what I truly beleive and ensure that the UK stays in the EU."

She would then have gone down in history as a true leader, a worthy statesperson and the PM who saved the UK from disaster.

Unfortunately she's blown it.

Wally Thu 15-Feb-18 19:12:09

varianShe would also have gone down as totally undemocratic and probably a revolution on her hands.

Wally Thu 15-Feb-18 19:23:22

varian Can you remember what Cameron, the CBI, Osbourne, and the IMF said before the vote, it was all conjecture not one thing that was said came to pass.

Wally Thu 15-Feb-18 19:30:18

Not to mention Carney, he had his say was totally wrong and should have resigned as he should have been neutral.

varian Thu 15-Feb-18 19:34:33

I am sure she would have been attacked by the Sun, Express and Daily Mail, but a true leader would have had the guts to stand up to the vested interests of the billionaire proprietors of these rightwing tabloids. We need to condemn the lying propaganda which fooled too many voters. People deserved to be told the truth.

Jalima1108 Thu 15-Feb-18 19:35:47

Not to mention Carney, he had his say was totally wrong and should have resigned as he should have been neutral.
Time he went, really, his deputy is much more able.

Wally Thu 15-Feb-18 19:39:34

varian 17 million millionaires I don't think so.

trisher Thu 15-Feb-18 19:40:48

May could not and will not speak out and ignore the referendum. She was appointed with the help of the 1922 committee. The 1922 committee is strongly in favour of Brexit
All six members of the executive (Brady, vice chairs Cheryl Gillan and Charles Walker, secretaries Bob Blackman and Nigel Evans, and treasurer Geoffrey Clifton-Brown) backed Brexit, and the 22 has long been led by the Tories’ Eurosceptic wing
And the 1922 committee will decide when she goes.

Wally Thu 15-Feb-18 19:44:01

The truth as some people see it is not the truth as others see it.

varian Thu 15-Feb-18 19:44:41

There were many different types of people who voted to leave the EU, but there is no doubt that a good proportion of these people actually believed the lies of the dishonest Leave campaign. (eg the £350 million lie on the bus).

GracesGranMK2 Thu 15-Feb-18 19:47:39

^Not to mention Carney, he had his say was totally wrong and should have resigned as he should have been neutral.

Do tell us how you know that Jalima.

Wally Thu 15-Feb-18 19:51:48

The biggest lies were told by the remain camp prior to the vote aided an assisted by the BBC and Sky News but in the end people saw through it and voted with their heads.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 15-Feb-18 19:52:35

The truth as some people see it is not the truth as others see it.

That is because those some opinions are not based on truth. So many people don't even understand how democracy works and that this was an advisory vote, nothing more, nothing less. It will take the writing of history to put forward the truths and then some will still believe their opinion is a truth and the law is not.

Jalima1108 Thu 15-Feb-18 19:58:08

Do tell us how you know that Jalima.
I am surprised you would question that a Goldman Sachs man is the better choice.

Tegan2 Thu 15-Feb-18 19:58:23

What lies were they, Wally?

Jalima1108 Thu 15-Feb-18 20:01:55

Do tell us
Could anything sound more patronising?
I suppose do tell us pray?

varian Thu 15-Feb-18 20:02:36

I don't have Sky ( is that a Murdoch company?) butbregularly watch the BBC who allowed Farage to appear on QT 29 times over the years when no other MEPs got any expisure to speak of, then during the EU referendum campaign insisted on giving equal time to factual information from experts on the Remain side and blatant lies from the Leavers.

Do you remember Daniel Hanan saying "absolutely no-one is talking about leaving the single market" or Boris telling us that Turkey was about to join the EU and 79 million Turks would be coming into the UK?

Jalima1108 Thu 15-Feb-18 20:08:40

He did (Farage I mean) but was that because they were hoping he would shoot himself in the foot?

durhamjen Thu 15-Feb-18 20:24:38

Over six minutes of Brexit lies, including Daniel Hannan.

youtu.be/EBxWiRz6A9E

I'd like to see something similar about remain lies, Wally, as you are so certain they told bigger lies.

Oldwoman70 Thu 15-Feb-18 20:31:05

So varian the PM can only show statesmanship if she says something you agree with?
