Corbyn and Momentum

Jalima it is such a weird question. The only person who really knows what motivates any of us is ourselves. Those close to us may have some idea but why would you think anyone here was in that position re Landsman.

You didn't actually ask what motivated him in your original question or I would have given you the answer above. You asked "... what is in all this for Jon Lansmann ..." and then asked "... does he want this type of equality for all?" referring to his wealth.

I was not criticising - in fact admiring of their principles, she may have been wealthy but she also did a worthwhile job. I was just using them as an example because another poster assumed that I had not heard of such people as 'wealthy left-wing activists'!

I would think that their motives were altruistic and that they were honest and true to their beliefs. What I want to know is - what motivates Lansmann?

What intrigues me about some people with strong political views is that they believe the opposite to what their parents believed. Apparently his father was a Tory Councillor.

I just wonder how much he influences Corbyn or if they are like-minded and on the same path.
Corbyn's parents, of course, were left-wing activists so he is following in their footsteps there.

In fact, I'm not really discussing - I'm asking questions. He seems to have been 'the fixer' (or whatever term you would use) for very many years but the man that few had heard of who is now in the limelight.

The paramount controlling body within the Labour party is the National Executive Committee (NEC), which is an elected body drawn up from groups within the wider Labour movement in the country.

There are 39 seats available on the executive, the breakdown of which is allocated by the party's annual conference. By example, in 2017 the conference decided to allocate one more seat on the NEC to the trade unions bringing their total number of seats on the NEC to 13.

Lansmans election to the above body was in all probability by way of a seat within the trade union section, assuming of course he did hold the necessary membership qualifications to accept nomination.

Lansman, will therefore be one of 39 voices on NEC who's job it is to bring into being the policies put forward and accepted by the party's regional and national conferences.
Jeremy Corbyns job as party leader is to promote those polices to Britain's electorate.

The above is similar I believe to other political party's, although obviously the makeup to there senior committee would be different

That's possible Primrose, I am thinking he took the new seat that was created for the trades unions. However, we're not the other 2 seats reserved for the constituency party's, elected by the regions. I suppose he could have taken one of those if he held a prominent position in a constituency party.

I am not aware of any seats allocated directly to Momentum? I would have thought that would be outside the constitution of the party, but I stand to be corrected if there are now seats for that organisation.

According to the above Lansman does hold a seat in the constituency section (CLP). Now who would have thought that.

Yasmine Dar, Rachel Garnham and Jon Lansman were the Momentum candidates. They all hold CLP seats. There are no 'Momentum' seats (yet) but they are promoted as 'your candidates' to Momentum members.

Naively, I think that those are good reasons but they seem to be deeply suspect on here.

I have a friend in her 70s who is a lifelong LP member; she's perfectly relaxed about Momentum, says she's glad they've taken over a lot of the work in the local CLP which a few stalwarts have been doing for years and years; rather to her relief really. She says it's time the youngsters did their bit.
