Bridgeit I absolutely agree with you. Please don't let spiteful comments put you off contributing. Your opinions and posts have every right to be here. Lots of people say they don't post on the politics threads because of the nasty comments and I think that's a shame.

Hearing Stephen Kinnock this morning was very interesting and illuminating. Having spent time working in Russia he was certainly under no illusions as to the perpetrator of this hideous crime. My opinion of him went up by leaps and bounds - future Labour leader?!!

niggly, Stephen Kinnock has much experience in the world of politics, son of a former labour leader and a member of the European Parliament, married to a former prime minister of Denmark, he has worked in Brussels and Russia , and a nice chap ?

I have watched the Labour Shadow Defence Secretary Nia Griffith a few times giving interviews and I find myself admiring her more and more .

I may or may not agree with her topic to topic, that is not an issue, but I do think she is a gutsy person to be prepared to take the position of I have a job to do and I will do it as I deem fit for the defence of the country , not to appease my fellow front bench .

I do not wish to be patronising but her outward appearance is that of a quiet, unassuming woman but in fact she stands her ground well and is quite a plucky, resolute woman prepared to put defence of the realm before party politics. She has been a somewhat thorn in Corbyns side at times and I wonder how long she will remain as Shadow Defence Minister as she is possibly too independent minded.

She is in my opinion the polar opposite to Emily Thornberry and Dianne Abbott , perhaps that is why I take to her so much.

Stephen Kinnock was put on the spot this morning when the BBC interviewer asked him if in the present climate would he be happy to serve under JC as Prime Minister.

He couldn't say yes, poor man. He was squirming but side-stepped having to say no by blustering about other things.

It as interesting to note that boycotting the World Cup in Russia later this year might be something the England team has to discuss. It was noted by many that TM and Putin might have to go to a long drawn out stalemate on this issue as there aren't too many sanctions she (or anyone) can employ against Russia.

Crucially, what will Corbyn’s stance do for his political impact domestically? The Times has a YouGov poll showing most of the public preferred May’s response to his. Yet some spot a big split in the age profiles (though sample sizes make this a hazardous exercise), with many older voters coming down very hard on Corbyn, while the youngest voters seem to give him support. More importantly, 44% of those asked didn’t have a view either way. Labour MPs think he’s made himself even more toxic with older, working class voters. But those around Corbyn sound confident he can emerge from this with credit. Given pollsters’ poor reputation, we may only really find out in 2022. And the world may look a very different place by then.

RESPONSIBLE OPPOSITION?

There is more to being PM than dealing with domestic issues, important as many of them are.
May has shown herself to be very resilient with all that has been thrown at her since she took over from Cameron.
She hasn’t done everything well, far from it, a disastrous election campaign for a start, but has come back from that now.
Far from all the epithets thrown around on here such as fevered, jingoistic ( only from a few posters, granted) she, along with every MP in Westminster ( with Corbyn as an exception) has shown only seriousness and dignity.
I think that Corbyn showed his true colours, and it may well prove the final nail in his coffin.

Corbyn is going for the young voters, they see him as a rebel and youngsters love rebels, it is with age , experience in the real world of supporting a family do they realise being a rebel doesn't fit with running a country,

The Welsh Labour Government supports May not Corbyn

The "young" voter the Labour Party is attracting is the under 45. I would think they are the very people who are currently experiencing "... the real world of supporting a family ..." and finding, it seems, that this government who you seem to feel can do not wrong Annie, is not for them.

While they are working, bringing up a family and trying to put a roof over their heads there are numbers of pensioners, whose money goes into the bank each month without the need to keep a job and the majority of whom have a roof over their heads; who have long since left such worries behind as a memory - and these people think they know best and can tell the under 45s not only what to do but also what to think - no wonder they are looking for a party not run by and with a membership of the old.
