Simple title so should be easy to update everyone with any bits of knowledge we gain.

"I hope you are not suggesting those countries might be ... sitting on the fence - because they haven't. Their support was instant and unequivocal, not limited, conditional and begrudging."

If I had used your whole sentence GG the above would still stand. You don't see it. Your sentence implied the countries supporting us wouldn't stay onside IF....(conditional) 'this didn't follow'. (The sample was not sent for investigation.)

Not only that, the sample was likely to be investigated. That would be protocol anyway I'd imagine. The countries supporting us are horrified by the attack, and like Theresa May, want answers and view Russia with suspicion. Are they likely to change their stance? No. Have they demanded the sample be investigated? No. They trust we will want to get to the bottom of it by legitimate means and enquiries and support us.

Please explain what lies have been put in your mouth. You can't, because it hasn't happened.

grin lemon That made me laugh.

The HIGNFY team can be extremely witty! grin

durhamjen Thu 15-Mar-18 21:20:52

Day6, what did trump say that made his support unequivocal?

“It sounds to me like they believe it was Russia and I would certainly take that finding as fact ...,” he said. “As soon as we get the facts straight, and we are going to be speaking with the British today – we’re speaking with Theresa May today – and as soon as we get the facts straight, if we agree with them, we will condemn Russia or whoever it may be.”

It wasn't a discussion it was personal Bridgeit. That is an attack.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 15-Mar-18 21:24:31

You don't see it. No you will not admit you shouldn't have manipulated my words. But nothing new from you Day6. I suppose I should by used to the personal above the discussion by now.

Bridgeit Thu 15-Mar-18 21:25:11

Sorry to say GG that is what you do so often but just can’t see it,that was my point , you wittingly or unwittingly police the way others express their opinions instead of grasping the essence of their opinions & that’s all I have to say on the matter .

durhamjen your post of 21:20 is classic Trump grin.

durhamjen Thu 15-Mar-18 21:50:53

In California, yesterday, Fennel, trump said he wanted to have concrete walls between California and Mexico, but they had to be see-through!
Work that one out.

durhamjen Thu 15-Mar-18 22:02:42

He has also said he wants an armed space force!!!!

Primrose65 Thu 15-Mar-18 23:11:35

Keir Starmer is doing a stellar job (in my opinion) on Question Time.

mostlyharmless Thu 15-Mar-18 23:20:30

I agree primrose.

Eloethan Fri 16-Mar-18 00:29:37

primrose What concrete evidence is there that this was a state endorsed assassination attempt? It may or may not be but it seems to me that what is being put forward as evidence is: the Russian man was a British spy, Putin is a Communist and a horrible man, Russia produced the nerve gas that has been used and therefore Putin ordered this attack.

I would have thought there are more discreet and sophisticated ways of killing people than haphazardly wafting around a nerve agent that severely injures three people, affects 21 others and ultimately causes an international incident that reflects very badly on Russia.

Eleothan, if the attack had been carried out secretly Putin wouldn't be centre stage would he

Eloethan Fri 16-Mar-18 08:58:36

I don't think it is acceptable to call someone a troll unless you have proof.

Primrose65 Fri 16-Mar-18 09:01:25

Eloethan I didn't put forward any evidence at all. You just seem to have assumed what might be put forward and then said your assumptions don't correlate with what happened!
I don't think any members of the public are privy to any concrete evidence about this.
I'm simply thinking that because the UK has shared evidence with other countries and they have subsequently come out to support the UK, then whatever they have must be significant enough to support the UK. I cannot see our diplomats relaying your interpretation of events.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 16-Mar-18 09:10:19

I think you are right Eloethan. No one knows nor, I think, can they actually know.

This is interesting as it comes from a none British point of view. Written in the New Yorker in the home of the country often talked about as our "closest ally". Other countries will allow us some retaliation - getting rid of people thought to be spies is something they can easily back. But after that they will need more proof that is was the Russian state. They still need a relationship - however difficult - with Russia and will not want a new cold war.

Corbyn may be making some in the LP uncomfortable but he is right to ask the questions. May has said the right things about the incident so far but she too will need to be careful to keep our allies, some of whom we have recently kicked in the political face, onside.

Day6 Fri 16-Mar-18 09:18:15

Eloethan, trolling (an activity) is the same as flaming, according to the UrbanDictionary.

Day6 Fri 16-Mar-18 09:20:57

I had to laugh at this comment from a wag in one of the comment sections of an online paper this morning.

Things have come to a poor place when the French and the Germans are more pro-British than the man who may be our next Prime Minister.

Anniebach Fri 16-Mar-18 09:25:00

Funny but so true Day6
