Socialism struggles for a reason to exist in the 21st Century
I think there will always be a reason for socialism to exist while you have the neoliberals taking over the centre right. The Conservative party have allowed this to happen - not all of them are neoliberals by any means but they have gone down that route.
People will often declare that most people are "of the centre" on here but I see no signs of that from the right-wing posters. They will often support a very neoliberal stance. I see it with the rhetoric from our MSM and on other forums. It is often thoughless of the consequences and very short-term in its approach. If, as is certainly possible, we then end up with a socialist government and if that government takes the opportunity to go further to the left than many who vote for it would have wanted, then the whole swing action begins again.
Without PR and without a properly centrist party I cannot see anything to stop this. If we cannot stop it you will probably find that half the country are more willing to accept the swing to the left and half the swing to the right. And so it continues.
The JVL wonder why their demos have not been as widely covered as those of the JBD. Nothing to do with a right wing bias in the media is it?

Interesting to read the links, the people who are involved and the people who supported Trump. Even if you consider this link considerably biased, you have to then consider that perhaps there is bias in the other news we have seen and the truth lies somewhere in between. Either way it is concerning that such a huge issue as anti-semitism should be being used as a political tool.
Concerning that some still say anti semitism isn't increasing in the Labour Party.
Maybe this has been mentioned on another thread, but I read, I think in the Evening Standard on line, that David Lammy has been threatened with deselection for attending the rally to show solidarity with the Jewish protest
Yes he has Terri, Corbyn has said it's up to local parties if they want deselection, so no defence from him for a MP who has always fought racism
Most strange, I have low vision yet I can see that vile painting clearly Primrose but Corbyn couldn't , perhaps time for a guide dog for him
Terri Yes, that's right about David Lammy. I think all the Labour MPs who attended have been subjected to a lot of abuse on social media too.
There are mass 'reporting of anti-semitism' to the LP happening now. I know of one where 2,000 people have been reported for posting, liking and sharing an anti-semitic message in a LP facebook group. I think the Jewish community are taking Corbyn at his word and they're going to need more than an in-house lawyer to sort this out.
Annie
Primrose, he really is dishonest, he supported keeping that vile painting on the wall, quoted when a Jew destroyed a painting of Lenin but didn't realise the men in the painting represented Jews. He was on some twitter thing but didn't realise there were anti semetic posts. He wants to be PM ?
Annie I know. This is why I don't think he's able to lead the party. He can't be 'militant about anti-semitism' when he is part of the problem, his friends in the LP are part of the problem, his ardent supporters are part of the problem.
I always thought the Labour Party was bigger than one person. If there is not a 'cult of Corbyn', he should step down and make way for someone who can sort this out.
They don't "represent Jews" Annie they represent bankers only 2 of whom are Jewish- that has already been posted on the previous thread. Do try to keep up. Isn't it anti-semitic to accuse them all of being Jews?
There were other MPs on "the Twitter" thing and on the facebook group. I do hope you are pursuing them with the same fervour.
The mural encompassed all the worst stereotypes and dangerous ones that would have done 1930s Germany justice. Any ethnicity could be lampooned in such a negative way, umpteen examples, trafficking , sexual grooming, bomb making, knife and gun crime to shape the public's view of a very one dimensional and pejorative aspect of certain demographics. Chukka Umunna said something along the lines that it wouldn't be tolerated if any other race had to put up with the vitriol that is aimed at the Jewish community.
Do the other MP's lead the party, shout from the roof tops they are not facist or want to be PM, it is not I who needs to keep up, I suggest you take your own advice Trisher
trisher I think you should take Owen's advice and get educated. Defending anti-semitism is not a Labour Party value, even if you defend it through ignorance.
How did it do those things TerriBull would you like to explain? Or would that involve actually looking at what the painting depicted and what the artist intended and not just regurgitating something you have read somewhere?
There are many other murals about other political subjects including extremism, gun crime and other things. It is an art form that embraces controversy.
I am not defending anti-semitism Primrose65. It isn't anti-semitic to point out the artist's original intention as to who the figures were. It is anti-semitic to say they were all Jews because that means you think all bankers are Jews and ergo that there is some sort of Jewish control of banking.
The problem is not mine it is those who simply reiterate what they have read without fully investigating nd realising that are in fact promoting an idea they think they are opposing (But I realise that may be a bit complicated for some)
Why are activists in the Labour Party receiving training on avoiding making anti semetic comments
trisher You have no idea how ignorant you sound trying to intellectualise anti-semitism. If you're a LP member, I'd really stop now.
Annie Because they're writing stupid stuff on forums and on social media as this behaviour has been accepted for so long they don't even know what they're doing? Just a guess!
Because it is complicated Annie Read the link I posted and ask yourself where the truth lies. It isn't as simple as some seem to think and it is very difficult for those who are pro-Palestine and who are horrified by the treatment of Palestinians to make their point without being accused of being anti-semitic. And it seems a number of right-wing Labour MPs have chosen to side with a Conservative led movement. You have to ask "Why?"
Personally I find the use of anti-semitism to make political headway completely unacceptable.
I am not regurgitating something I had read somewhere, the stereotypes are blatantly obvious, hooked noses depicting a racial characteristic, the concept that Jews control global capitalism getting rich on the backs of others. I think the Jewish community should be commended for their restraint, other ethnicities would be more robust in their reactions. If Corbyn himself thinks that his party need to do more to eliminate anti semitism, then what was the point of Shami Chakrabati's recent whitewash enquiry
You would Trisher
Following your reasoning Trisher we need to be more understanding of anti Muslim rants because of the actions of ISIS ?
So have you read who they really are TerriBull?
