A continuation of Momentum/Intertia/Magnetism/Elasticity but with a less scientific bias. grin

A thread about Corbyn. For lovers and haters.

Primrose65 Tue 10-Apr-18 15:56:39

Corbyn has been constructively & proactively opposing Assad & Putin since this conflict began.

Has he? Can you link me to anything where he has opposed the actions of either, other than a broad 'everyone is wrong'.

Day6 Tue 10-Apr-18 16:10:42

someone can make such puerile jokes about Russia

Oh dear trisher. Comrade Putin was purely incidental - the joke is about Corbyn's dithering and wet response to aggression and his avoidance of action.

But you knew that. hmm

bmacca Tue 10-Apr-18 16:22:35

He has made numerous Early Day motions (see Hansard if you need proof, as you seem to be implying that I am lying)

Primrose65 Tue 10-Apr-18 16:48:24

Were any of these actually debated bmacca - what did Corbyn say during the debate?
He was merely a signatory on some of those EDMs and some of them are nothing to do with Assad. Has he ever spoken out against Assad or Putin, or does his 'constructive and proactive opposition to the Assad regime' end at signing an EDM, proposed and sponsored by others, condemning the increase in refugees in the area?
I'm not saying you're lying. I'm saying he has never spoken out against the regime, that I can find. Signing an EDM is hardly constructive and proactive!

Primrose65 Tue 10-Apr-18 16:58:47

Now you're defending skwawkbox as well as Corbyn on this one - their standards are not very high!

Ilovecheese Tue 10-Apr-18 17:00:28

An M.P. can only put forward an early day motion to debate an issue. They do not have the power to actually debate it if the Govt does not agree

Primrose65 Tue 10-Apr-18 17:25:22

I know lovecheese That's why I don't think it's evidence of a 'constructive and proactive opposition to the Assad regime'. Especially when the EDMs are not about Assad.

yggdrasil Tue 10-Apr-18 17:26:40

alternatively :-

Corbyn : Prime minister, don't you think you should have some proof before shouting at Putin

Theresa May via the Daily Mail. You are a traitor not to agree with anything I say

Putin: I didn't do it . Where's your proof?

Boris: The man at Porton Down told me for certain

Man at Porton Down: err we didn't actually

Corbyn : Prime minister, don't you think you should have some proof before trying to push Putin into WW3

Putin: plays tit for tat with ambassadors, then gets on with establishing himself in Syria

mostlyharmless Tue 10-Apr-18 17:32:11

yggdrasil smile

bmacca Tue 10-Apr-18 18:45:51

Primrose, I know you don't want to look yourself because it doesn't suit your narrative. One example: In letter to Theresa May in December 2016, Corbyn wrote: “The international legal system was born from the ashes of World War Two to militate against the recurrence of such atrocities yet this is effectively being dismantled in Syria. The rules of war are being broken on all sides".
“Labour has long condemned all attacks on civilian targets, including those by Russian and pro-Syrian government forces in Aleppo, for which there can be no excuse. We strongly believe that those responsible for violations of International Humanitarian Law in Aleppo and more widely in Syria should be held to account.”

Posters who are calling for military action (despite the certain knowledge that Western military interventions in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya have had consequences which remain to this day utterly disastrous) - how do you justify it?

Baggs Tue 10-Apr-18 18:53:56

The Labour Party in Israel has written to tell Jeremy Corbyn that they cannot "retain relations" with him because of his weak response to anti-Semitism in the British Labour Party.

Anniebach Tue 10-Apr-18 18:55:53

They invited him to their Holocaust museum and he refused, so much for talking to both sides

Baggs Tue 10-Apr-18 18:57:45

yggdrasil, what you say would be much more convincing (that is, it might actually be convincing) if you quoted, word for word, what the people you are paraphrasing actually said. As it is, you are writing down what is your interpretation of what was said. Your interpretation may be perfectly correct but there is no way for us to check if you don't quote what people said.

Grandad1943 Tue 10-Apr-18 19:14:47

Well, in regard to hypocrisy then the conservative party most certainly holds the biggest of them. Below is a report from RT media.

Jacob Rees-Mogg has been accused of hypocrisy after details of Russian profits from his fund-management firm were revealed. The Tory MP had said that Russia should be “hit financially” over the Skripal poisoning.

Rees-Mogg is a co-founder, director and shareholder of Somerset Capital Management (SCM) – an investment management firm which specializes in emerging markets. SCM confirmed it runs a fund with a stake worth up to £60 million ($84 million) in Russia’s largest bank, Sberbank. The MP profits from the bank – through his position as a shareholder – that has been a target of EU sanctions since 2014.

The news sparked outrage on social media, with users racing to blast the Conservative as“hypocritical”and"arguably the stupidest man in parliament.”

Grandad you seem obsessed about J.RM!! Everything you post seems to come back to him. He's not in the government and probably never will be so why this constant reference to him ?!!

Grandad1943 Tue 10-Apr-18 19:41:11

Because he is tipped as the next leader, a senior and very influential backbencher, one of the Conservative Brexit MP who got this country into the position it is in now on leaving Europe. Along with all the foregoing he is a far bigger hypocrite than any member of the Labour party.

Will that do for starters.

Grandad1943 Tue 10-Apr-18 19:48:34

By the way nigglynellie, the last reference I made to a Concervative MP was Benn Bradley another wonderful character who believes that unemployed men should have vasectomies to stop them claiming child benefit on the state, which is among other wonderfully thoughts he has

Anniebach Tue 10-Apr-18 19:57:40

Corbyn went underground during the referendum campaign, no tv interviews, no part in the tv debates, selected halls to speak in, selected by Momentum, followed by one tv programme where he faced questions before a young, invited audience ! At least Kate Howey was honest, so lay blame with all who wanted out not with some.

Anniebach Tue 10-Apr-18 19:59:08

niggly, I like J R M, ?

Primrose65 Tue 10-Apr-18 20:01:46

I read that too Baggs. It just seems pretty crazy to me that on the same day the LP of Israel cuts off Corbyn he's endorsed by Nick Griffin. It's like watching a satire. I would have really laughed if I'd seen it on Not the 9 o'clock News 40 years ago.

nigglynellie Tue 10-Apr-18 21:07:01

I do too Annie. Not sure that voice will bring in the punters though!!!?

Anniebach Tue 10-Apr-18 21:28:22

Nick Griffin is another Holocaust denier, vile man

Anniebach Tue 10-Apr-18 21:30:02

niggly, not a chance of him being leader but , do not laugh, I like his voice ?

Grandad1943 Tue 10-Apr-18 21:41:10

The membership of the Conservative party is now so low that the right wing of the party could well get Jacob Rees-Mogg elected as leader. After all they would not need that many votes to achieve that.

Grandad1943 Tue 10-Apr-18 21:42:33

He has plenty of Russian money to mount a good campaign.
