Jacob Rees-Mogg Moves For Conservative Party Leadership.

With an open attack on Theresa Mays handling of the Brexit negotiations many in the media believe that Jacob Rees-Mogg has made his first open move in a bid to become Conservative party leader and Britain's next Prime Minister.

Rees-Mogg in yet another of his ongoing interviews with the media lambasted "weak" Theresa May for preparing the UK for "Brexit failure". Rees-Mogg stated that with The British negotiators going into each set of negotiations with an attitude of "we will kowtow before you, Mr Barnier in every way you possible throughout these talks" there is no hope of success for the UK. The foregoing are undoubtedly harsh words indeed even from an arch hard line Brexitier, but many believe that there is far more to Rees-Moggs words than just Brexit.

It may well be that this hard line right wing politician has witnessed the way that Jeremy Corbyn has moved the Labour party to the left and now feels he could carry out the same in the Conservative party with the exception of that move being in the opposite direction in regards to political ground.

Evidence to the above can be seen in Rees-Moggs attack on Scottish Conservative Leader Ruth Davison, for in the same interview he stated that Davison should not be allowed to marry her longtime same sex partner as planned. However, same sex marriage legislation was put before parliament and passed in 2013 under the David Cameron coalition government.

In making the above comment Rees-Mogg is undoubtedly looking to damage Ruth Davison, who also is seen as a possible next leader of the Conservative party. That stated, it is also being seen as a move against centre ground Concervatives in parliament.

In the above can be seen shades of Momentum's original moves against centre Blairite MPs in the Labour party.

Nothing wrong with having a nanny , unless it’s JRM , then it’s soooo wrong. Harold Wilson had Marcia ?

Nothing is wrong with being wealthy and left wing, anymore than there is in being wealthy and right wing! People who are right wing seem to get much more stick though!!

I'd vote for Jacob Rees Mogg but not Ruth Davidson no chance.

Tony Blair lived in number 11 because he had three, then four, children (and Gordon Brown didn’t have any until later), but Mogg is heading towards seven it seems plus nanny of course. (As she is apparently in her seventies she probably has staff to help her as well.)

But I can’t believe he will ever be PM.
He’s known as “Honourable Member for the 18th century!” Prime Minister - that’s a joke..... (well hopefully).

Never say never who would have thought Corbyn would still be leader of the Labour Party. Jacob Rees Mogg has a large following especially on YouTube.

Anniebach Mon 28-May-18 16:48:08

I must take a look, thank you Nicenanny

mostlyharmless, I believe that JRM is now "within striking distance" of becoming the Conservative Party Leader. He seems to have strong backing among the membership and also strong support from within the Conservative Parliamentary Bow Group.

However, if he does become leader, whether the Tories can sell that "personally" to the wider British public in a General Election would be another matter.

Remember what happened to Sir Alec Douglas-Home.

Anniebach Mon 28-May-18 17:02:08

Seems isn’t does

Nicenanny3 Mon 28-May-18 19:55:42

Have a look at Mogg the Week YouTube Anniebach.

Jalima1108 Mon 28-May-18 19:56:39

Well, you seem very keen for that to happen Grandad!

Anniebach Mon 28-May-18 20:01:54

I have seen some clips, he has a wicked sense of humour ?

maryeliza54 Tue 29-May-18 07:39:28

I really really really want him to become leader.

paddyann Tue 29-May-18 09:35:26

you know that song ,Clowns to the left of us jokers to the right ....seems it wasn't just a song its a prophecy.I cant see any people in UK politics who have the capability of getting this almighty mess sorted..we'll get deeper in the mire year on year with this crowd of selfservatives and pretendy labourites. If you have a god start praying .

The British public allowed themselves to be sold Brexit. Maybe they can be sold JRM. Advertisers manipulate and the Tories establishment afford to pay for clever publicists.

I hope you are right, Lemongrove, that this will not happen.

MaizieD Tue 29-May-18 09:49:35

I really really really want him to become leader.

I am intrigued, maryeliza. Why?

maryeliza54 Tue 29-May-18 10:26:16

Maizie final nail in coffin, hastening demise, etc etc. In truth however, I would place a substantial bet that if and when there is a leadership election he will not make it to final two as too many Tory MPs will be concerned about their own self preservation.

MawBroon Tue 29-May-18 10:39:41

Spotted Mogg and mini-Mogg in today’s Times.
Too good to keep to myself.

lemongrove Tue 29-May-18 10:47:38

The apple never falls far from the tree Maw grin
JRM was himself a very serious little boy and much like his own Father.

varian Tue 29-May-18 11:04:12

As Chris Patten, who has known JRM since he was a minimogg, said "Jacob had some very eccentric views when he was eight, and he still seems to have the same eccentric views at forty-eight.

The last forty years seem to have taught him nothing.

Nicenanny3 Tue 29-May-18 11:39:16

Patten would say that he's a Remainer looking after himself and disregarding the Brexit Voters.

Anniebach Tue 29-May-18 11:41:54

I don’t think he is eccentric

maryeliza54 Tue 29-May-18 11:55:04

Well you are wrong ab

varian Tue 29-May-18 12:01:52

To say that an honest comment on JRM from a very distinguished politician who has known him since childhood is "disregarding the brexit voters" is absurd.

The brexit voters (about 26% of the population) are not the only British people who should be considered. Those like Chris Patten who believe we should remain in the EU, are not "looking after himself" or disregarding anyone. They are rightly concerned for the future of us all.

MaizieD Tue 29-May-18 12:27:28

Maizie final nail in coffin, hastening demise, etc etc.

I thought that was it, maryeliza grin

maryeliza54 Tue 29-May-18 12:27:49

CP was a grown up politician - which JRM can never be accused of. Roll on his leadership I say (JRM not CP)
