Our fishing industry never got a good deal because they were badly let down by our representative on the EU fishing committee, none other than Nigel Farage, who only bothered to turn up to one out of 42 committee meetings. Fishing communities who voted leave need to be reminded of that.

varian, i could not agree more with your above post. The fishing industry could be once again a main employer in the Northeast and Southwest if Brexit really ever does come about at some stage, which I hope not

I felt fishing was one of the strongest cards Britain held in the leave negotiations, but this incompetent government and its negotiators have just thrown that advantage away for some far off deal involving the London finance industry.

As stated by you Varion, the people of the Northeast and Southwest who voted for Brexit need to be continually reminded of that if there is to be another General Election in the Autumn.

Those Brexit voting fishing communities and Ukippers should note that fishing accounts for no more than 0.07-0.2% UK GDP, whereas the service sector accounts for 80% ; financial services 20% - so which sector should we be protecting? London finances much of the rest of the country - 22% GDP generated in London ( it has 12.5% population and pays about 1/3 of all the tax collected in the UK.) So don't dismiss the importance of London's contribution to the UK economy.

I think it's seen as 'class betrayal', maryeliza by the deeply conservative working classes who seem to feel uncomfortable if people don't conform to the stereotype of their class.

Lectures about the evils of capitalism from people (Lansman included) who dabble in socialism, whilst racking up huge amounts of cash from their own capitalism ventures, should not be taken seriously.....people who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

Seems the nanny in the JRM household troubles some, most strange, nothing unusual in a family who can afford childcare in their own home do so.

If she is there to look after 6 (soon to be 7) children, what time should she have had to go canvassing with the prolific father?

The nanny doesn't bother me one bit although I know I made a joke about jam-making; my DM was a nanny although, of course, she married and had her own family but kept in touch with the family she was with for the longest. And a couple of the younger members of our family have had nannies for their children.

There is still a fishing industry (just) but I am afraid that it has been decimated over the last years. Hence other businesses have failed as they depended on the fishing industry too.
