With an open attack on Theresa Mays handling of the Brexit negotiations many in the media believe that Jacob Rees-Mogg has made his first open move in a bid to become Conservative party leader and Britain's next Prime Minister.
Rees-Mogg in yet another of his ongoing interviews with the media lambasted "weak" Theresa May for preparing the UK for "Brexit failure". Rees-Mogg stated that with The British negotiators going into each set of negotiations with an attitude of "we will kowtow before you, Mr Barnier in every way you possible throughout these talks" there is no hope of success for the UK. The foregoing are undoubtedly harsh words indeed even from an arch hard line Brexitier, but many believe that there is far more to Rees-Moggs words than just Brexit.
It may well be that this hard line right wing politician has witnessed the way that Jeremy Corbyn has moved the Labour party to the left and now feels he could carry out the same in the Conservative party with the exception of that move being in the opposite direction in regards to political ground.
Evidence to the above can be seen in Rees-Moggs attack on Scottish Conservative Leader Ruth Davison, for in the same interview he stated that Davison should not be allowed to marry her longtime same sex partner as planned. However, same sex marriage legislation was put before parliament and passed in 2013 under the David Cameron coalition government.
In making the above comment Rees-Mogg is undoubtedly looking to damage Ruth Davison, who also is seen as a possible next leader of the Conservative party. That stated, it is also being seen as a move against centre ground Concervatives in parliament.
In the above can be seen shades of Momentum's original moves against centre Blairite MPs in the Labour party.

JRMs investment company is under investigation for international sanctions breaking in regard to Russia. Those sanctions were brought in for a number of issues, including the missile downing of an airliner over the Ukraine.
However, Jacob Rees-Mogg insisted on the Andrew Marr program that his company was under legal obligation to invest their clients money in a Russian bank and elsewhere in that country as that produced the best returns to them.
However, has it not occurred the Rees-Mogg that he could simply resign from all interest in the investment company, but perhaps the money he is making from that company outweighs all else.
All the passengers on that aircraft, including many children died in that Russian attack and still the Christian faith loving Jacob Rees-Mogg places his own financial interests before all that.
To quote Tory supporters in another thread, "just shows how low some people will sink"
Of course, some on this forum believe Jacob Rees-Mogg is a "very nice well mannered person" as they have stated any number of times.
Grandad1943 I am sure JRM has beautiful manners. I am sure he says 'please' and 'thank you' as he invests his clients money in Russia and flogs abortion pills. All the best con-men have lovely manners.
and the new Messiah of course
I'm so surprised to hear you say that maryeliza
Has he taken over from JC?
I just think he's eccentric and apparently a very good constituency MP.
It's truly amazing the information some people believe that they have regarding the financial arrangements of people they've never even met!!
It's also truly amazing that some people think they know what motivates MPs without having met them.
I trust you can see the irony, nellie
Self aggrandisment and of course, our old friend money!
He's also an extreme Brexiter who promulgates false information, Jalima. That kind of cancels out the eccentricity and the 'good constituency MP' bit for me.
Some politicians make their intentions perfectly obvious, it's called 'vote catching'. Investors by and large don't!! No irony there!!
What, some MPs make it obvious that they're in parliament for the prestige and the money?
It's a very odd way of trying to attract votes.
So, investors often do not know where their financial investments are placed, which is a fair comment.
However, Jacob Rees-Mogg as joint owner of an investment company is aware of exactly where clients investments are placed and in that have knowledge that those investments are being placed in Russia organisations which are subject to international sanctions.
Therefore, why does not Jacob Rees-Mogg not resign and sell off all his involvement in the company and therefore be seen to demonstrate his call in parliament for sanctions to be tightened against Russia.
In the above, why have the Conservative party at least launched an inquiry into Rees-Moggs activists when it can be seen he is probably gaining financially from sanctions breaking activities. The foregoing should be especially prevalent when those sanctions were brought in as a response to a Russian missile attack on a civilian airliner in which all on board died.
The above I believe demonstrates the morals and priorities of the people that have taken over the Conservative party in recent years.
How low can the Tory party sink.
That off my chest. Coffee break over, so back to work
Corbyn invites IRA members to Westminster days after the Brighton bombing , no regard for the grief of colleagues
How low can a Labour Party leader sink
Some members mock a minutes silence for Tessa Jowell,
How low can Corbyn’s Momentum Party sink
How about a few minutes thought for all those that perished on that airliner and from which a leading member and prospective leader of the Conservative party is making money from?
I don’t actually care if JC ate babies last week, your ‘whatsboutery’ does nothing to detract from JRM’s hypocrisy
Where we differ is I am capable of feeling sadness for those on that airliner, those who lost friends and loved ones in the Brighton bombing and the family and friends of Tessa.
It’s quite simple , my compassion doesn’t depend on which party I belong to. Sadly you two have yet to reach this level of humanity
Yep Maryeliza , the eating of babies certaintly wouldn’t trouble you
So you will be very upset by the Tory's alliance with the DUP Annie a party with strong links with the Ulster Unionists, sometimes called Loyalists who were responsible for many murders in N Ireland.
Quite simply anniebach do you condemn JRM for gaining financially from the Ukrainian airliner attack.
Grandad1943, there was no question mark so I have no idea if you were asking me a question or testing your typing skills.
Quite simply anniebach do you condemn JRM for gaining financially from the Ukrainian airliner attack ?????
A question? Thank you
For all his investments JRM did not set out to or knowingly bring down an airliner. He did not have any for knowledge that this terrible event would happen, and until recently investment in Russia has been encouraged, yes even by the Labour party. JC however courted IRA bombers after the Brighton bomb attack in the full knowledge of the distress and anger it would cause colleagues on all sides of the House - a deliberate act of cruelty, the same with the disgusting disrespect shown to Tessa Jowell and her family. Frankly how cruel can you be?! Like annie, I too feel compassion for anyone caught up in a dreadful event regardless of which political party they belong to, or where they come from. Yes there were atrocities on both/all sides of the political spectrum in NI. We managed to embrace and do business with Martin Mcguiness thank goodness, despite the atrocities attributed to him personally, so why not the DUP? Goose and Gander, I would have said!
The question is quite straightforward anniebach. Quite simplly do you condemn JRM for gaining financially from the Ukrainian airliner attack ?????
Forums will never dissuade people from their dearly held political views. I think JRM is a buffoon. A hypocritical one at that. His only real selling point is his eccentricity. JC I support fully. He means what he says and says what he means. He has never supported the IRA - but supported Peace (won a prize for it dontyaknow). He is a true Socialist. But I don't expect JRM supporters to see my side of things any more than I can see theirs.
Have to leave it at that then knickas!
Quite simplly do you condemn JRM for gaining financially from the Ukrainian airliner attack ?????
Could you provide some links to say that JRM was directly involved in that atrocity please Grandad.
It sounds rather disingenuous to me.
In fact, it could be argued that the EU set the wheels in motion for that occurrence.
