Did it take place?

First email I received regarding this event tickets £35. Last mail received tickets £10 and free travel to London.

There were 15,000 tickets for sale , according to the Guardian 2,500 were sold. It was to follow the success of Glastonbury last year .

UNITE offered 1,000 free tickets and free travel.

Pop stars due to appear -The Magic Numbers, Hookworms and Rae Morris

The problems in the Labour Party are dwarfed by the divisions in the Conservative Party on almost every major issue facing this country.

Also, what happens in the Conservative Party (being that they are the government) is of major importance to Britain, where as what happens in the Labour Party (being that they are only the opposition) is far less important.

Also, if you anniebach had taken an interest in what is going on in the wider labour movement rather than just targeting Jeremy Corbyn, you would have realised that two major trade unions may well be about to take a a far stronger stance in regard to their policy on brexit, and that may well effect Jeremy Corbyns leadership of the party.

The Unite Union are Consulting widely among their membership in regard to the organisations Brexit policy.

Anyway, I had better get back to work.

MawBroon Mon 25-Jun-18 09:32:38

Never miss an opportunity to “have a go,” eh Grandad? smile

Anniebach Mon 25-Jun-18 09:56:39

Oh, the official oposition party is of far less mportance to the country,

Two points, there is a Brexit thread

Never , ever address me as ‘you’

Granny23 Mon 25-Jun-18 10:03:35

March for Independence to Bannockburn on Saturday 15,000 marching plus a few thousands more who went straight to the field. No subsidies, all at their own expense.
Just saying grin

PS - what about the March in London on Saturday?

Anniebach Mon 25-Jun-18 10:09:19

Labour paid for transport for members who wanted to hear Corbyn speak and even so 1,000 tickets were given free and I was offered a ticket reduced from £35 to £10 plus free transport , I didn’t attend ?

Anniebach Mon 25-Jun-18 10:11:02

The march in London?

‘Oh Jeremy Corbyn’ was changed to ‘where is Jeremy Corbyn’

nigglynellie Mon 25-Jun-18 11:39:03

J.C is a lifelong opponent of the EU which tbf he's never made any secret of! I presume the reason, or one of them is that creating a socialist paradise would inevitably contravene certain EU law and be well nigh impossible to achieve. So why would he want to stay in the restrictive EU? Clearly he wouldn't and would be an appalling hypocrite to pretend otherwise - I guess most people in the real world would see through that however left wing they are!!
As for the will of the people after two years having changed in favour of leave, well, do we then have yet another referendum in another two years, and then perhaps another just in case the will of the people has changed yet again?!! How long does this go on for till enough is enough?!! Or is a case of, you can have any colour car you like provided it's black!!!?

Anniebach Mon 25-Jun-18 14:21:03

niggly, just what is the point of a referendum is a mystery, brexit the majority voted out, that’s it. Same with Scotland, majority voted to stay in the U.K.

nigglynellie Mon 25-Jun-18 15:39:06

Exactly annie! Why have a referendum in the first place if there is only one answer the establishment will accept?!! Apart from causing no end of friction, wasted time not to mention money that could be better spent elsewhere, (particularly if there has to another referendum and perhaps yet another to get he RIGHT result,) having a referendum initially makes no sense at all!!?

varian Mon 25-Jun-18 18:14:05

Neither of these referendums should ever have happened without the requirement for a minimum of 50% of the electorate to upset the status quo. You could not change the constitution of your local gardening society without a two thirds vote on at least a seventy-five percent turnout.

David Cameron is a reckless gambler who acted without any real concern for the future of our country.

Anniebach Mon 25-Jun-18 18:25:25

But they did take place , hindsight ?

nigglynellie Mon 25-Jun-18 19:06:16

And Parliament sanctioned it!! So perhaps it too was reckless?! Fact is that no one thought remain would lose! Arrogance all round I'd say, not just D.C..

varian Mon 25-Jun-18 19:32:03

You are right. Bad mistakes were made but it is not too late to undo the damage. Article 50 is revokeable according to Lord Kerr, the author of the legislation. We do not have to leave the EU because about 27% of the poplulation believed the lies of of the leave campaign.

Jalima1108 Mon 25-Jun-18 20:17:04

Also, if you anniebach had taken an interest in what is going on in the wider labour movement rather than just targeting Jeremy Corbyn,
You must keep up Anniebach!

I read something today written by another 'maverick' Labour MP, Austin Mitchell:

Jeremy Corbyn, elected Labour leader on a surge of dissatisfaction at the old leadership, the old ways and the continuous compromises of Blair and Brown, presents himself as himself, though he might have done better being someone else.
A perpetual protester (no revolution was valid without Jeremy’s endorsement and his invitation of its leaders to the Commons), he has had to take on the blander mantle of leadership. It doesn’t quite fit.
His appeal is that of an honest man of principle, something young electors like after years of easy promises and low performance. But his leadership gives rise to a basic question: can the principles remain pure, or will they be diluted by the imperatives, and the temptations, of power?
Under Corbyn, Labour politics have descended into yet another struggle for power.
As for those around him, I knew Diane Abbott when, after falling out with Ed Miliband, I joined the supposedly hard-Left Socialist Campaign Group of Labour MPs — even though I classified myself as soft Left — because it was the only group that still discussed socialist ideas and policies.
With Diane as secretary, it was badly organised. If the revolution ever comes, she will have forgotten to book the room

Anniebach Mon 25-Jun-18 20:38:27

She would have forgotten to book the room ! Love it, good old Austin

Thanks Jalima. Gave me a giggle, Abbott couldn’t arrange the x in the brewery ?

Corbyn has few principles .

Anniebach Mon 25-Jun-18 20:49:30

Varian, it would be unfair on those who voted to leave, I didn’t but if remain had won the referendum vote I would be angry if leavers started demanding a second referendum .

Yes this, that and the other should have been done, didn’t happen.

eazybee Mon 25-Jun-18 21:13:11

'two major trade unions may well be about to take a a far stronger stance in regard to their policy on brexit, and that may well affect Jeremy Corbyn's leadership of the party.
The Unite Union are consulting widely among their membership in regard to the organisations' Brexit policy'.

Which is precisely why so many people, although not convinced about Brexit and not huge believers in the Conservative Party, continue to give the government their support.

Anniebach Mon 25-Jun-18 21:20:27

Corbyn is a nodding dog for UNITE and Momentum, they shout he jumps

petra Mon 25-Jun-18 21:23:40

I don't think many remainers gave having another vote a second thought until the self seeking publicist, Gina Miller came along.

Fennel Mon 25-Jun-18 21:40:09

I had an email inviting me to Momentum's kneesup in Durham next month. At the time when they have the Durham Miner's Gala.
I used to enjoy it in my student days, and might go just out of curiosity. It's just up the road from where we are now.
I still don't know how I came to be a member of Momentum.

POGS Tue 26-Jun-18 08:16:13

Fennel

' I still don't know how I came to be a member of Momentum.'

Does that not concern you?

POGS Tue 26-Jun-18 08:18:30

Talking of the Durham Miners Gala.

I wonder if they are still banning Labour MP's from attending who they consider to be 'Traitors' this year because of Corbyn.?

Anniebach Tue 26-Jun-18 09:02:15

One has to apply to be a member of Momentum.

The Miners Gala is a farce now.

Anniebach Tue 26-Jun-18 09:11:14

116 Labour MP’s voted for the third Heathrow runway, little wonder Corbyn gave a free vote

nigglynellie Tue 26-Jun-18 09:11:46

I think upset remainers would have been satisfied enough with the terms of the referendum had the result been the other way round!! confused
