JRM's house has been attacked by vandals with offensive graffiti sprayed on windows and his wife's car. Condoms and a sex toy were also scattered around. Whilst this could be classed as minor damage it worries me that his property was attacked simply because of his political views. (I would feel the same if the attack was on someone from the other side of the political divide)

Surprisingly this attack on a sitting MPs property has not been reported on local BBC radio station and was only given around 30 seconds on local BBC TV news.

that was in response to your post of ^ Tue 07-Aug-18 10:14:02 ^ trisher

Anniebach Tue 07-Aug-18 10:19:57

You know the maid cleared it up trisher? You know a firm wasn’t brought in? Do tell how you know this is true , did the car not get cleaned up by a garage? Did the maid do this too, do tell please.

You have little knowledge of the treatment of staff by the likes of JRM, you view the staff as serfs

Jalima1108 Tue 07-Aug-18 10:22:19

Anarchism is a valid political stance, the problem is that many now don't understand the word, so it's much easier to say 'left-wing'.
I think you underestimate the capabilities of other posters to understand such terms trisher.

Anniebach Tue 07-Aug-18 10:23:08

Anarchists are against political authority , I think it was carried out by political activists, I don’t know but it’s my opinion.

Anniebach Tue 07-Aug-18 10:24:38

Looking up the definition one description is Bolshevick

trisher Tue 07-Aug-18 10:25:37

Oh Annie do try not to put words in my mouth. You are right perhaps the maid didn't clean everything, perhaps she had help. Why would I view the staff as serfs? I'm the one acknowledging their role in this, and having worked in many 'menial' jobs I appreciate their work. I want them recognised and applauded not ignored.

sodapop Tue 07-Aug-18 10:26:38

For goodness sake can't we just say this sort of action is unacceptable whoever is the victim. I understand there are strong feelings around politics but this sort of vandalism is nothing to do with beliefs just an excuse for elements of society to ramp up unrest.

Jalima1108 Tue 07-Aug-18 10:26:45

A tip for Jacob and family - don't post pictures of yourself away on holiday on FB or Instagram!

trisher Tue 07-Aug-18 10:28:53

Not other posters I was speaking of Jalima1108 but the public who read tabloid newspapers. You need a reading age of 10 to manage them. Sorry if this wasn't clear.

Anniebach Tue 07-Aug-18 10:29:01

It is unacceptable sodapop, and it was unacceptable to drag the maid into it.

No one should be subjected to this

trisher Tue 07-Aug-18 10:32:18

I think the maid was 'in it' already Annie just not worthy of a mention.

Oldwoman70 Tue 07-Aug-18 10:34:29

trisher whilst it is possible this was done by right wingers I think it is highly unlikely (isn't JRM considered an extreme right winger). I also doubt that anyone wanting to "keep him in the public eye" or "gain sympathy for him" would have scattered condoms and a dildo on his property.

Jalima He is a politician - it is very easy to find out where politicians are.

Anniebach Tue 07-Aug-18 10:35:07

You leapt on the fact the maid was mentioned trisher, no one else did.

trisher Tue 07-Aug-18 10:38:09

AnnieI posted about the maid because the perceived view if you hadn't read the deatils woould be that JRM came down one morning and opened his curtains to find this horrible mess. He didn't. The maid did. Someone posted about his children seeing it they weren't there. The maid was.

The type of intellectual minnows who perpetrate this attack are just the physical manifestation of the politics of hatred that has migrated from the states to the U.K.

It would seem that any politician is fair game just because you don’t like their politics. This ranges from verbal abuse on social media and sites like GN, through to this type of vandalism and at its worst the murder of Jo Cox.

Jalima1108 Tue 07-Aug-18 12:03:20

True, OldMeg, a good post - although I am not so sure that this wasn't happening pre-Trump.
Politics in the States has historically been volatile.

OldWoman Jalima He is a politician - it is very easy to find out where politicians are. True as well. which could indicate a degree of premeditation rather than a sudden, thuggish attack.

Jalima1108 Tue 07-Aug-18 12:05:34

I do think that Gransnetters are pussycats compared to what I have heard about other social media sites. Capable of just a sharp scratch if threatened, but nothing more!

MaizieD Tue 07-Aug-18 12:06:29

Hear, hear, OldMeg

It isn't just politicians that are fair game, it's anyone who incurs their displeasure. I don't think it's just migrated from the US, though. Our own right wing media are complicit too.

Anniebach Tue 07-Aug-18 12:25:32

We can’t blame Trump or America for this. There has been something nasty seeping through for several years. Tweets, face book . Follow any politician on Twitter and the verbal attacks are vile, and the twitters, or what ever their called, turn on each other too. Bullying, insults, mocking, horrible.

lemongrove Tue 07-Aug-18 12:27:01

trisher and MaizieD the two of you are ‘ on the attack’
Blaming possible right wing sources......utterly ridiculous and very typical of your posts.
The rest of the posters on here manage to condemn any thuggishness from either left or right, pity you can’t do the same without bringing your own left wing politics into it.

lemongrove Tue 07-Aug-18 12:28:04

Exactly Annie this was happening long before Trump took up office.

nigglynellie Tue 07-Aug-18 12:33:44

I doubt very much that the member of staff who discovered this horrible event had anything to do with clearing it up as they almost certainly wouldn't have been expected to. Whoever was left in charge of the property while the family were away would have dealt with it as per his employers instructions.
I worked as a Nanny many moons ago for a millord and even in those days everyone employed had their own specific job and cleaning/clearing graffiti and obnoxious objects was not on anyone's job description. A specialist firm would be called as you would for any job not connected to the running of the household.

MaizieD Tue 07-Aug-18 12:35:58

Trump has just accelerated the trend.

Your comment, lemon isn't worth replying to.

lemongrove Tue 07-Aug-18 12:37:46

hmm

I thought it a relevent comment, but there you go.
