JRM's house has been attacked by vandals with offensive graffiti sprayed on windows and his wife's car. Condoms and a sex toy were also scattered around. Whilst this could be classed as minor damage it worries me that his property was attacked simply because of his political views. (I would feel the same if the attack was on someone from the other side of the political divide)

Surprisingly this attack on a sitting MPs property has not been reported on local BBC radio station and was only given around 30 seconds on local BBC TV news.

As for who's responsible? Well that's anyone's guess. One thing for certain there are some really dreadful vile people out there. God knows who they are or where the come from, but lets hope the Police find them and they're dealt with appropriately.

paddyann Tue 07-Aug-18 13:11:49

much as I detest this mans politics its his family who have been under attack here and thats not on.Its probably best they were away when it happened as none of us would want our children to be involved in this.
I will add that there are loonies on all sides of the political spectrum and none .Blame can be aportioned when the culprit is found

Stupid idiots!

Apart from committing a criminal act they've now cast Rees-Mogg as a victim, rather than being seen as the slimy creep that I think he is.

Just like the other mindless idiots who hit Rupert Murdoch in the face with a cream pie when he was being grilled by a Select Committee. angry

I didn’t say this was about Trump’s particular brand of hate did I? ?

I’ll check back and see what I wrote.

OldMeg Tue 07-Aug-18 14:40:14

I thought not. This brand of politics certainly existed before a Trump.

So it might pay some to read what I actually wrote than what they thought I wrote. I note that Anniebach was the first to jump in with the wrong assumption, again.

OldMeg Tue 07-Aug-18 14:44:22

Thank you MaisieD for reading what I actually wrote and pointing that out to Lemongrove.

The ‘politics of hate’ was a phrase I first read around the time of JFK. It has finally reached its climax under Trump who’s size of mouth is inversely proportional to his brain.

OldMeg Tue 07-Aug-18 14:45:23

Whose...

Jalima1108 Tue 07-Aug-18 15:19:17

In fact, OldMeg, it was me who mentioned Trump first in relation to your post of Tue 07-Aug-18 10:43:44 , not Anniebach. It wasn't at all clear from your post about when you thought this type of political hatred had migrated across the Atlantic. Certainly, if emanating from the time of JFK, it has taken its time over here to escalate into the vile manifestations we're now witnessing in the UK.

I then thought that Anniebach was replying to my post of Tue 07-Aug-18 12:03:20 rather than yours.

Whatever is causing this, it needs to be stamped out. As paddyann said, whatever anyone thinks of his politics or anyone's politics come to that) to attack the family home where his wife and children may have been is just not on. More than that, vile and nasty.

Jalima1108 Tue 07-Aug-18 15:20:29

So it might pay some to read what I actually wrote than what they thought I wrote.

Perhaps you missed my post too, OldMeg smile

Anniebach Tue 07-Aug-18 15:26:00

Bad luck OldMeg, better luck next time ?

OldMeg Tue 07-Aug-18 16:08:11

Oh huge apologies Jalima it was you who misread my post and now I’m getting berated by you because you did so? You assumed the ‘politics of hate’ in the US started with Trump? Not my fault you are misinformed.

Far better had you said ‘sorry I made a silly mistake, but can I please point out it was me and not Anniebach’ but that was obviously never going to happen.

Annie I apologise for my mistake. I realise now that Jalima was the first and you merely perpetuating the mistake.

GillT57 Tue 07-Aug-18 16:21:19

This makes me angry, not least because this loathsome man is now getting sympathy. So the attack has backfired somewhat.

OldMeg Tue 07-Aug-18 16:26:24

Good point!

Anniebach Tue 07-Aug-18 16:48:08

Gill, surely anyone who has that done to their home deserves sympathy

paddyann Tue 07-Aug-18 16:54:26

at least it was only things Annie it could have been much worse.Things can be replaced .

Anniebach Tue 07-Aug-18 16:58:53

True Paddyann, but I feel sorry for anyone who has their home targeted

Deedaa Tue 07-Aug-18 17:27:16

I think things will get a lot more violent. There have never been so many divisions in society and they run so deep.

GillT57 Tue 07-Aug-18 17:33:53

I do feel sympathy for anyone who has had their home violated as JRM has, and I think it was a despicable thing to do, but still uncomfortable with the idea that this awful man with his ghastly views will be able to command sympathy from people. Hard to explain, but I used to find him mildly amusing, eccentric, a bit like Boris J, but now I find them both conniving, self promoting manipulators. Still wrong to vandalise his house though.

eazybee Tue 07-Aug-18 17:41:00

'loathsome man; awful man; ghastly views;conniving, self-promoting manipulator.'
In other words, his views don't accord with yours.

Jalima1108 Tue 07-Aug-18 18:00:21

Oh huge apologies Jalima it was you who misread my post and now I’m getting berated by you because you did so? You assumed the ‘politics of hate’ in the US started with Trump? Not my fault you are misinformed.

Goodness me, what a ridiculous post. I wasn't berating you at all OldMeg, in fact I thought your original post was good (even if apparently unclear as it turns out). I was merely explaining that Anniebach followed my misunderstanding with her post about Trump.

No matter what anyone's politics, this is a horrible thing to happen.

Anniebach Tue 07-Aug-18 18:16:12

I would be sympathetic if vandals dug up corbyns carrots in his allotment

JenniferEccles Tue 07-Aug-18 18:19:37

What is particularly awful about this is that it was done to a man who has only ever conducted himself in a calm, polite dignified manner even when confronted by ignorant Leftist yobs.

I don't totally agree with his views on abortion but I respect his right to hold and express those views.

Of course he is a Tory, a well educated man who speaks properly, so sadly he is always going to be a target for mindless thugs.

Anniebach Tue 07-Aug-18 18:26:05

Seems his crimes are he wears suits not Lycra, doesn’t agree with abortion, is wealthy, is 100% for leaving Europe and has a nanny.

lemongrove Tue 07-Aug-18 18:29:42

eazybee. grin yes, exactly ( your post 17.41.00)

GillT57 Tue 07-Aug-18 19:10:48

Lemon ?
