Aretha Franklin has sadly died she had been very ill with pancreatic cancer. She had such a wonderful voice. RIP Queen of Soul

Maw as she was black quite possibly the black American held her in higher esteem than John McCain

Oh give it a rest Trisher you were clearly a fan, some of us less so. Can’t you leave it at that?

trisher Fri 31-Aug-18 20:29:50

So only those 'Aretha Franklined out' are allowed to post on this thread MawBroon. Personally if I don't care about some one/thing I tend to stay away and let those who do post. Can't you leave it at that

The thread has moved on from just RIP Aretha, on which I would not have commented as I have never been into soul music, to commenting on the coverage given to her death (at 76 she was not exactly struck down in her prime), which we all have a right to comment on as it affects the coverage given to the rest of the news.

A six hour funeral. shock

Anniebach Fri 31-Aug-18 20:45:14

I can understand the crowds and the long service, so many tributes ,she was a link to Dr King and the American fight for civil rights.

trisher Fri 31-Aug-18 20:58:58

She was a link to so many things and an inspiration to many people, particularly black women. I think the funeral is so long because so many wanted to speak and perform at it. It isn't of course British, but if that's what they want...
No objection to anyone posting their opinion about the funeral grumpa I do think reprimanding someone because you don't agree with what they say is unacceptable.

Jalima1108 Fri 31-Aug-18 20:59:57

Six hours?
Was there a 'comfort break?'

MawBroon Fri 31-Aug-18 21:10:18

Trisher please don’t be silly - I have at no time said anything other than express my own opinion and ask you to stop reading more into it than that and to stop overreacting.
This is too trivial to get so worked up about.
Hence my request to “give it a rest” - there is no need for such histrionics .

MawBroon Fri 31-Aug-18 21:11:40

I do think reprimanding someone because you don't agree with what they say is unacceptable.

Then please stop doing it.

trisher Fri 31-Aug-18 21:30:56

My goodness MawBroon for someone who isn't interested and thinks there has been too much coverage you seem to be adding to it
there is no need for such histrionics
Histrionics-really! I'm not at all worked up you on the other hand.....
