Is Melania beginning to make her mark?

Up to now she has been viewed by some as a bit of a trophy wife compared to the strong social or political agendas of First Ladies of the past such as Hillary Clinton, Barbara Bush or Michelle Obama.
However I wonder if there is more to her than meets the eye in the light of this report I saw in today’s paper

Melania Trump yesterday warned about the “destructive and harmful” impact of using social media incorrectly – while her husband was busy settling scores with typically aggressive messages on Twitter.
America’s First Lady used a speech at a cyber-bullying prevention conference to stress the importance of teaching children about the “safe and responsible use of social media”. Yet as she was issuing the warning on the outskirts of Washington yesterday morning, Mr Trump was in another part of the city sending barbed tweets

I mean, not now and not saying that Melania was - but circumstances have changed!

Jalima1108 Tue 21-Aug-18 18:36:14

Nobody could be that stupid, surely?

Anniebach Tue 21-Aug-18 18:31:21

Jane10 Tue 21-Aug-18 18:25:32

Had to get rid of current wife first.

Anniebach Tue 21-Aug-18 18:17:52

Wasn’t love at first sight was it? Met 1998 married 2005,

Jane10 Tue 21-Aug-18 18:07:13

No sympathy for Melania.

Anniebach Tue 21-Aug-18 17:38:56

Marla, but they divorced the following year, - ‘my wife doesn’t understand me’ perhaps

Jalima1108 Tue 21-Aug-18 17:27:50

Your guess is as good as mine Jane10!

Jane10 Tue 21-Aug-18 17:27:11

Who was he married to at the time? Ivana or Marla?

Jalima1108 Tue 21-Aug-18 17:25:31

In September 1998, she met real estate mogul Donald Trump at a party that Zampolli hosted at the Times Square nightclub the Kit Kat Club (now the Stephen Sondheim Theatre)
So she was 28 when she met him.
The obviously had a long courtship (what a sweet, old-fashioned term that is).

2 words. Stormy Daniels.

Anniebach Tue 21-Aug-18 15:26:41

Jalima1108 Tue 21-Aug-18 14:37:18

whole life! blush

Jalima1108 Tue 21-Aug-18 14:36:59

Perhaps he told her he'd been waiting his while life for someone like her Anniebach
she only found out later - and she is a practising Catholic, so I understand.

oldbatty Tue 21-Aug-18 13:55:54

I didn't understand the coat thing.

Jane10 Tue 21-Aug-18 13:35:05

Quite right Anniebach! I doubt she could possibly 'fall for' that man.

Anniebach Tue 21-Aug-18 13:21:21

What was it that attracted you to the twice married multi millionaire with a weakness for women within hands reach?

Jalima1108 Tue 21-Aug-18 12:58:54

I doubt that she knew she would ever be First Lady me. She abandoned her university course for a modelling career and probably, as a young woman, fell for a rich man.
He wasn't even in politics then.

I agree with your post FourthE; most women will do anything for their child(ren)

maryeliza54 Tue 21-Aug-18 12:37:44

She chose to marry him- she knew exactly what she was marrying and clearly decided it was worth it. If there’s any sympathy and understanding going, give it to those women in the US who are suffering through no fault of their own from the policies of the monster she chose to marry - think health care for example

Don't forget that Melania has a teenage son that I believe she would do anything for. Imagine being in her shoes as a human being who never wanted to be first lady and who under her particular circumstances, would absolutely lose all custody of her child if she chose to leave her husband for any reason.

I believe she may be trying to do the best that she can given the situation she's in. Like all of us, she may not always take the right steps, particularly as she has no political experience, little real higher education and few good people advising her. But I see her trying, defiantly, where she can.

maryeliza54 Tue 21-Aug-18 12:17:21

She spoke in support of DTs utterly disgusting ‘birther’ movement which tells me all I need to know about her. Any mark she makes will only ever be as a result of what is in her own best interests.

Remind you of anyone? grin

She must have an inner core of steel to put up with Him.
